Gears, Forza 2, Viva Piñata become UK Classics

In the UK, beginning May 16, gamers will be able to pick-up a trio of titles marked down and packaged as Xbox 360 Classics. Late last week Microsoft announced plans to add Gears of War, Forza Motorsport 2 and Viva Piñata to their classic line-up, the PAL region equivalent of the Platinum Hits brand in North America.
As yet another push into a market where the brand is known (sorry, bad example), but not as popular as they would like, Microsoft hopes adding three fantastic titles priced to go at £19.99 will entice new gamers into the Xbox 360 camp.

There's a link for the Forza 2 release on May 16.
The Viva Pinata link is somewhere in there too.

i must just be confused with the forza/viva pinata thing that was bundled with consoles a while back. that is always available pre-owned. my bad

Viva has been for a while IIRC, but Forza is a new addition to the range. Irrelevant really considering most shops have been selling these games new for £10-£15 since Christmas. Still nice to know thouh

Yeah these have been priced lower for a while now, but only will become Classic branded on May 16.

The UK just passed the 2 million mark, in terms of consoles sold, while the US hit 9 million back in January. When you compare the populations (60 million in UK versus 300 million here), I'd say that the 360 is doing quite well over there.

Agreed.

Why are the "classics" boxes so awful? My god, I thought they wanted to tout these games not insult them. Were I an uninformed casual gamer I wouldn't buy a game that had that lame boarder.
Etchasketchist @ Apr 24th 2008 12:03AM
Agreed. Although I'm a smart gamer and I know that the ugly border means "Cheap AND Good". I think the way to do it would be something like the old school Nintendo Seal of Quality. A nice platinum badge thingy in the corner.
SadisticHam @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:14PM
Might have to pick up Forza 2 now. ;O
Anticrawl @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:28PM
The best thing about the "classics" title being given to games is that retail stores are not allowed to sell the original labeled boxes for more than the classic labeled boxes. Keep that in mind when you pick up the game.

flameofdoom666 @ Apr 24th 2008 12:25AM

more like..gamestop.

Interesting since in the US, Gears hasn't really gone down much in retail price since it's launch.

Agreed. I got tired of waiting for it to become a Platinum hit here in the U.S. so I grabbed a copy on half.com for $20.00. It was practically brand new without a scratch on it. The seller said his 11 year old son got it as a birthday present and after seeing 5 minutes of it, he took it away from him and sold it. Poor kid. Maybe now he can replace it with Viva Pinata for cheap!
