Team Criterion is taking a page out of
PGR4's book with the
announcement that they'll be introducing motorcycles to the
Burnout Paradise mix. Just revealed as part of
Paradise's August Davis update (which will release after the
Bogart and
Cagney updates, of course) are motorcycles which will get their own set of challenges, game modes and even some new locations. Joining the introduction of motorcycles, the Davis update will also add the ability to roam the streets at night to let players experience all the night time visual goodness Paradise City has to offer. Come August, motorcycles and darkness get added to
Burnout Paradise ... w00tacular!
[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

That's a pretty significant update. Pretty cool. Personally I'm happy with PGR4, though.

Hmm, I'm wondering how would they be able to animate the person on the motorcycle when a crash happens... Still, a great addition to the game!
FantomRedux @ Apr 23rd 2008 7:33PM
Ragdoll maybe?
CynicalStrike @ Apr 23rd 2008 5:58PM
when i didn't have XBL i thought this game sucked. now i'm online it just gets better and better. those bike smashes are gonna be vi-o-lent (maybe they'll finally put people in the cars now too...) roll on august.

I listen to the developers' podcast and a while ago they said that they wouldn't put bikes in or pedestrians because they wanted to avoid showing the effects of a crash on a human. I guess this means they've changed their minds.

I'm extremely impressed with Burnout Paradise and the team working there. Not only are they giving us lots of updates, but instead of making us pay for this kind of stuff, like most games would, they just include them in a mandatory update. Kudos to you!! I love Burnout Paradise!!

man does that friggin rock.. i have actually been tooling around paradise city thinking how bad ass it would look at nite and... blammo, we iz gonna get to find out if im right. how come nobody ever says anything good about ea when they do something good? motorcycle vs car = good stuff!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm anticipating this more than GTA4. Yes that's how bloody awesome Burnout Paradise is and how crazy this DLC will be. BP is like GTA4 in that it is a game that really must be played and owned if you own the console, it is second to none in the racing genre - and Criterion keeps making it better and better. Already have over 120+ hours in the game and has a ton of replay value even after you beat it - and I plan to keep on playing it at least until after Criterion's "Year in Paradise" ends and they decide to start working on their next full game.
But seriously, they should charge for SOMETHING - hell, I would pay for anything they put out, I trust Criterion that much to make great stuff.

You sound like a compensated spokesperson.
I loved the prior installments of Burnout, but Paradise has so many flaws as to be "broken" as a game. It's just not "fun".
Kayster @ Apr 23rd 2008 8:11PM
criterion needs to stop ruining burnout, give us our old classic game back!
doug @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:16PM
Ummm ... the old classic games have already been released.
AnOffday @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:29PM
Yes. Please stop. Stop giving us free content!
Wait. What?
Brian Fantana @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:16PM
It's a start I guess. It's too bad PGR 4 was so average.
NOOK @ Apr 24th 2008 3:44AM
i never understood anyone saying that ... pgr4 has been, imho, the best racing game since the beginning of the gran turismo series. the weather options are aweseome, the graphics are superb, cars feel hella better than in pgr3.
while i still love my gran turismo and forza games, i always get bored after a while doing races just because i have to earn some money – in pgr4, i can start a single player race without any opponents for 20 laps and i have SO MUCH FUN! =D
btw, i think burnout paradise sucks. if they'd do a game like this minus boosters and stuff plus licensed cars – i'm in.

The update with the bikes and night driving is not free.
Also wont be out till the end of July.
Gemini Ace @ Apr 24th 2008 9:03AM
Is Criterion just trying to make the game worse than it already is?
neonsocks @ Apr 25th 2008 10:33AM
Request to Team Criterion: Please fix the frickin voice chat first from your last patch so more than 3 people can play and talk at the same time BEFORE you dedicate all your programmers to adding more content. Until this is fixed, we'll be playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2. Thank you.
