Shipping this week: good luck Iron Man edition

Remember when an analysts predicted that the release of Grand Theft Auto IV could derail the ticket sales of the Iron Man movie that releases this week? While the idea that big video game launches hindering movie releases is nothing new -- they said the same thing about Halo 3 -- we have one more prediction to make about the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV: it's going to put a serious damper on sales of the Iron Man video game. You see, they both come out this week. Sure, a game might steal money from a film, but a big game will definitely steal money from a smaller game. They will be competing for the same shelf space after all.

Well, competing might be too kind a word.

That Iron Man demo may be one of the most unplayable games I've ever experienced...

Yeah, control was fine; it was very playable... very boring, but very playable.

Perhaps I should have said unplayable due to boredom, of course I wasn't using the controller and instead I was shaking a taxidermied squirrel at the screen while spitting hostess fruit pie all over the place... I'll try it again with the controller.

It's not that it's unplayable it just takes awhile to get use to the flight mechanic. It's not nearly as easy to control as in the Superman game or something. The game really just lacks polish...bland and boring environments with horrible textures on everything except Iron Man himself. I think the game could be decent if they would of polished it before release. Too late for that I guess...

Iron Man demo was awesome, but sadly, I think I'll either rent it or wait till it's $20. Upgrading seemed pretty cool, and I wonder what other things you could get when you upgrade the suit. That being said, I also don't have time for GTA IV due to finals next week, and tests this week. TF 2 is still taking up all my time for MP anyways.

I preordered from GS also. I did not get that message mainly cause I changed my number since I preordered it over the summer. Also, I do not plan on getting the midnight launch as I have better things to do with my time: Sleep mainly. Gonna wake up early, study, then head over after regular opening tomorrow. Anyways, let us know how that works out, getting there are 6 and all. My GS is a smaller one, so I wonder if that wait time is different?

It's also in German, making it absolutely useless to me. Though I would love to hear the voiceovers.

Microsoft and TakeTwo better start fining retailers who broke street date early on this. It seems to be more widespread for GTA's release than any other game/system.

The message didnt say you could pick up at 6pm said that is when their festivites start, and gives you time to pay the remaining balance if any on your preorder. :) would be nice though. Im going to home after work, taking a nap till 10 picking it up at midnight and then enjoying the next two days off in liberty city. Can't think of a much better place to vacation.

I'll definately be seein' Iron Man in theatres this weekend, but will not buy the game............it(the demo) just seemed boring.....as for GTA4, no demo, no buy, I just don't have any time(or cash) to waste on lame games...........the game reminds me of my job at frito lay.......drive endlessly back and forth acrossed town to deliver packages.....lame in real life, and video gayness too.....oh, and you get to shoot fake people, and steal fake stuff too............oh, and the police are bad guys..........

buying the game tonight seeing the movie thursday at 8....one really has nothing to do with the other.if people want to see the movie and cannot find time then they really need a life.

an just look at the fanboys spittin untruthful specs about their nemesis' version and hyping their fav.....my best friend works the review crew for EGM, and generally digs 360 over ps3, but in all his hi-def glory he's prefering the Ps3 GTA4.........says it definately looks better than the 360 version, muddier graphics and pop up plague the 360 copy, he says achievements are'nt enough to sway his judgement.
