Microsoft: GTAIV DLC to include "hours" of gameplay
A statement released by Microsoft on Tuesday reminds everyone living under a rock that Grand Theft Auto IV is now available and features online play and future DLC. One line in the statement may reveal the size of the content stating, "starting this autumn, Xbox 360 owners will also have access to exclusive Grand Theft Auto IV episodes that will provide hours of additional game play." Recently Rockstar co-founder Sam Houser discussed the scope of the forthcoming episodic content with Next-Gen's Edge. "... You'll get a lot of content for your money, which I think is really important. You know, there are too many stories at the moment of people having the feeling that they're not getting enough for their money in terms of downloadable content, and it's easy for publishers to get away with," he said.
Houser also joked that the team at Rockstar North plans to "fry those Xbox Live servers" when the content is finally released. Currently, no pricing details or gameplay specifics for the downloadable content have been announced by Rockstar Games or Microsoft.

Considering all you would have to do is provide me with a flame thrower to provide me with hours of entertainment, that is setting the bar low... ;)
BananaBoat @ May 1st 2008 11:45PM
Seriously....add in all the fun weapons from Vice City, and you've basically fufilled the quota.
Give me a flamethrower, katana, hatchet, screw driver, etc, and I'm a happy man. Hell, I'd pay just to get the mini-gun back.
Then again, you could sell me a parachute to use when jumping off sky scrapers, and I'd also be pretty satisfied with the content I received. 99% of my problem with GTAIV is the exclusion of the wacky weapons (the other 1% being the screwy driving physics) and if they could fix that with DLC.....I'd consider the game a 9.9 instead of something more like a 9.5
dylan @ May 2nd 2008 2:57AM
bananaboat, I couldn't agree more.
D Boy Flex @ Apr 30th 2008 2:37PM
Cool, but nothing I have not heard a dozen times already.
DjDATZ @ Apr 30th 2008 2:39PM
Nothing we haven't heard before, but it good to hear it officially. :D
blank964 @ Apr 30th 2008 2:42PM
This DLC better be worthwhile or else all of this touting makes Microsoft look stupid.
Raheem @ Apr 30th 2008 2:49PM
Someone on the radio just said GTA 4 Multiplayer was offline for the PS3 for 2months due to problems, anyone hear anything about this? I can't find info anywhere.
The Sound @ Apr 30th 2008 3:38PM
Yeah, that probably has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. 2 months? Ha. R* wouldn't screw over half (roughly, give or take a couple of percentage points) of it's user base with this game by shutting down online for 2 months.
Elsnerma @ Apr 30th 2008 2:53PM
How could the PS3 multiplayer have been offline for 2 months when the game just came out yesterday?
Russ Tundra @ Apr 30th 2008 2:56PM
How long do you think it's gonna take a PS3 fanboy to come into enemy territories and start saying that they are going to eventually get the "Exclusive Content" that Microsoft paid $50 Mill for?? I would say in about 10 posts... anyone else smell Propane?? I think George Foreman and his Blog Post Bullies are on the way. (Xbox 360 Fanboy comes out in me! when we are superior to that "Colby" rip-off) HAHA
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ Apr 30th 2008 3:09PM
Well not trying to defend it but PS3's are very likely to get DLC.The difference is:
PS3 DLC: Extra Weapons and/or Cars
Xbox 360: All the PS3 shit and extra hours of gameplay!
The Sound @ Apr 30th 2008 3:40PM
You're paranoid.
By the way, MS paid for 2 exclusive episodes. If there are any more, that would mean that the PS3 would get them, but not the ones MS paid for...
DLC is coming to both systems, something people do seem to forget in the fanboy war/s, but it depends on what.
ViagraFiend @ Apr 30th 2008 3:16PM
I would hope its extra hours! What were they going to say?
New DLC provides extra minutes of new content!
Yeah, thats appealing.
UNSCleric @ Apr 30th 2008 3:18PM
PSN is a joke. Even if PS3 could ever get this content, their online network is such garbage that no one would ever be able to DL it.
The Sound @ Apr 30th 2008 3:41PM
It's not that hard to download it....Really, took me about a minute when I bought some last week.
James @ May 1st 2008 5:31PM
I don't pick sides -- I own and play both systems -- but AFAIK Live has spent a lot more time in "unplanned outage" state than PSN.
Also, the PSN store absolutely used to be abominable (it was a crappy somewhat-tailored web page, basically), but the new one feels a lot smoother and is much easier to use. Should they have launched a redesign earlier? Hell yes. But it's there now, and up and running. And I actually find my PS3 demos downloading faster than the 360 ones -- YMMV, I guess.
joey @ Apr 30th 2008 3:22PM
Please don't "fry those Xbox Live servers"
We all need it.
Cole Mullenbach @ Apr 30th 2008 3:32PM
Im hoping that the extra hours are all new story missions (or an entire new island) instead of just new cars and weapons... I would definatly buy that
Tony @ Apr 30th 2008 3:32PM
Am I nuts or were some of these exact comments by Rockstar posted here before...?
Although I guess since it's a press release they're going to reuse lots of those quotes lol.
andyg8180 @ Apr 30th 2008 3:39PM
@Russ... "I wonder when rockstar is going to unveil the PS3's DLC... I mean, its a 50 million dolalr timed release... NOT an official microsoft content... C'mon... seriously"
lol...
okay, now back to the real world... Im hoping the DLC is going to be like crackdown... New missions, new weapons, new cars, new game modes... I mean, thats a REAL expansion pack... Story is great, but if they gave us a "curb stomp" then i cant wait...
But who am i kidding... i just started the game... Im not in any rush to get the DLC at all...
The Sound @ Apr 30th 2008 3:43PM
*Sigh*
I would be really great if they could, you know, maybe hint MORE at what it will be? That would've pushed some on the fence buyers towards the 360 version, but now we're just listening to people say to get it in anticipation of what the DLC may be....
therpham @ Apr 30th 2008 6:06PM
Speaking as someone who plays GTA until enough of the world is open for me to not care about the story anymore, I hope that any DLC is not just extra missions, though I wouldn't necessarily object to new missions being part of the deal.
STD Spanky @ Apr 30th 2008 3:48PM
Any UK gamers noticed how Niko and Roman both bear a very strong resemblance to Barry and Paul Chuckle?
alex b @ May 1st 2008 3:07PM
no b/c nobody knows who those guys are.
c. thomas @ Apr 30th 2008 4:41PM
Whole City FTW!!!!!!!!!!!
Ciaran Gallagher @ Apr 30th 2008 6:06PM
big fuss over nothing. I'm sure PS3 owners won't exactly be disappointed by losing out on a couple of hours of GTA - after all isn't there much better things to do within the space of a few hours? - like things that don't involve sitting in front of a screen and fulfilling your own selfish desires?
In fact, isn't there much better things to do than play GTA? Yes there is so don't get too glued...
vidGuy @ Apr 30th 2008 9:50PM
I'm guessing the first episode costs 1200 MS Points (USD$15), introduces a small new island, and provides enough new missions for another 5 hours of play, plus exploring.
I'm on the fence about the DLC until they announce the price and some more details, though.
DSK UK @ May 1st 2008 6:20AM
In my opinion, if they do release new islands, they won't be any bigger than Broker
kered @ May 1st 2008 11:22AM
Can't go wrong with that!
