Video: It's incredible, it's amazing, it's Mirror's Edge
Coming from Sony's recent Playstation media event (at least something good comes from those, hoozah!) is a brand new, all in-game footage, delicious ball of awesomeness trailer for Mirror's Edge. And did we already say it's a delicious ball of awesomeness? Because it is. Witness DICE's upcoming and "true" first person experience as main character Faith jumps from building to building, leaps through the air, slides, glides and kicks the crap out of gun wielding baddies with ... her legs. We're excited and truly believe that Mirror's Edge has that special something. Enjoy!

wow...that looks...wow...
Modeps @ May 6th 2008 2:12PM
I really dont see what all the fuss is about... It looks neat, yeah... but how are these moves going to translate into button presses? Is the whole game this type of running on surfaces / rooftops? It really doesn't show enough of the game for me to form any real opinion at all.
DiscoGhost @ May 6th 2008 2:18PM
It looks like assassins creed style movement in the first person perspective. Whether that translates to button presses well or not, it still looks like something new and sparks my interest...oh, and it is pretty.
Etchasketchist @ May 6th 2008 2:15PM
Always good to see a sexy-but-not-sexualized female protagonist.
brownc4 @ May 6th 2008 2:20PM
The subway seems oddly devoid of people. Otherwise one to watch.
ZEBRA NINER @ May 6th 2008 2:28PM
Yeah, this one looks kind of cool. Can't wait to try it out.
Paulo Eifel @ May 6th 2008 2:30PM
I for one will give it a "meh". It doesn`t look like too much fun and I´m not sure if it was a good idea to play this game from the ego perspective.
I´d propably give a demo a try but I`m not interested yet.
Besides I don`t think that a female protagonist is fitting!
Cheers

One game I'll never forget the first time playing is Jumping Flash. I remember going to bed after playing and while falling asleep being jolted awake because I felt like I was jumping around the world. It had a great first person feel to it and I've never played another game that had that sort of feel to it. Razor's Edge seems like that kind of game where you are truly first person running, climbing and leaping through the world.
Univalve X @ May 6th 2008 2:47PM
Not to be racist or anything, but come on an Asian girl?
The least you can do is put an Arab, Canadian, US MAN, not an ugly female.
ZEBRA NINER @ May 6th 2008 3:01PM
Huh?
Arnie @ May 6th 2008 3:10PM
Lol "Not to be" that statement was racist. You just called that girl is ugly because she was Asian.
Sheesh!! even on the Internet with all its anonymity people are hypocrites!
ZEBRA NINER @ May 6th 2008 3:13PM
What he said basically was that Asian girls are ugly. What he MEANT was that he finds Canadian, US, or Arab men attractive. That's what I'm taking from this statement.
Insomnious @ May 6th 2008 4:53PM
What an incredibly racist, bigoted comment. Cultural tolerance fail.
ticklefist @ May 6th 2008 10:24PM
Gay comment, not racist a racist comment. Grats on making points where they don't need to be made. You're more stupid ppl on the internet.
Tony @ May 6th 2008 2:39PM
I'd be more excited if they showed you actually doing, you know, anything. Running around like an idiot isn't enough to win me over at this point.
Yeah it looks good, yeah the first person camera work is great (although I would argue Condemned 2 managed a lot of this very well too)... but then what? I've seen the same area several times now and there's no real concept of what you actually DO.
Until there is, I'm just going to pay more attention to everything else.
SoulPatch @ May 6th 2008 2:51PM
I think I threw up a little in my mouth. This game looks interesting, but man, this game also looks nauseating. I also hope they are not done with the graphics because they did not look up to par with some of today's titles.
otis @ May 6th 2008 3:07PM
oh no, there's not as many graphic effects! i totally agree, this game won't even be worth playing!
Drago Dracini @ May 6th 2008 3:19PM
Wow... o.o looks like this game juyst went from "who cares?" to "I think I'll rent it."
Sinister Rouge @ May 6th 2008 3:20PM
I've had this on my Wish List since screenshots appeared in EDGE. Can't wait!
Deck @ May 6th 2008 4:08PM
This just makes me drool
Huzzah!
Terror @ May 6th 2008 4:37PM
After seeing that I really need Crackdown 2. Make it happen Realtime Worlds.
Insomnious @ May 6th 2008 5:05PM
The Realtime Worlds offices are about 10 minutes from here, I could always pop in an give them a nudge if you like.
Muffin_man @ May 6th 2008 4:31PM
I think this game is really artistic. It looks beautiful and I can't wait to try it. It needs more colour though and judging by EA you will have to pay extra for the colour.
ZEBRA NINER @ May 6th 2008 5:58PM
EA is great! I think they should charge double for this game! ;)
Steven @ May 6th 2008 11:38PM
So this is what it feels like to run...huh.
Insomnious @ May 6th 2008 5:05PM
That looks astounding! I was trying to remember the name of this game when I saw some clip about the use of colour in the game. I really hope it's as easy to play as the video makes out. Can't wait.
Nick @ May 6th 2008 5:13PM
To those already bashing the game:
You really shouldn't be attacking so soon, and for things like graphics or lack of showing "what you do". Clearly, this is early on development, and they wanted to put something out there so people could see what they are working on. Every game does this... Look back at early videos of the biggest games, even your favorites. You'll see, games start out unpolished and "meh" as you so elegantly put it, but they refine and evolve into the awesome that some of the become.
So in short, chill out. These comment boards always get filled up with naive comments bashing tech demos and early footage. Give it a shot, this game actually looks pretty sick when you consider what they are trying to do. 1st person crackdown, with a chick...No complaints here.
Peace, Nick
monkeymonkeymonkey @ May 6th 2008 5:22PM
wow and wow. nice graphics. even though graphics are not everything (gameplay is most important), it shows what the PS3 is capable of.
Jose42 @ May 6th 2008 5:44PM
Holy Zeus! I want this so bad. Do we have a release date yet?
Hybrid Circle @ May 6th 2008 5:55PM
HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!!
siddharth s @ May 6th 2008 6:39PM
This game ... I like!! "Out of the box" gameplay, sorta like Portal. I hope this comes out on the 360 ...
goboColossus @ May 6th 2008 8:24PM
Go to Amazon dot com and buy Breakdown for 4.99 USD.
How I love that game, and how I've longed for it's influence in "FPS" titles since. Can't wait for Mirror's Edge, been on my most wanted since it first popped up in Magazines!
Wish more developers would tackle this style of innovative Action / Adventure gameplay and not just put out generic FPSs, and to think it's all being funded by EA! *baffled*
RedSonRising @ May 8th 2008 5:37AM
wow.. i want this game, especially if its open sandbox style.. i wonder where they got the music, is that song familiar to anyone?
Digitalspirit @ May 7th 2008 4:33AM
So why is this on 360fanboy if it's a PS3 game???
andyface @ May 7th 2008 4:43AM
says it's a 360 game too on Gamespot (and PC)
andyface @ May 7th 2008 4:54AM
This game looks beautiful. This is the first I've seen of it and I'm intrigued.
I am a little sceptical of the control system though, I struggled at times with Crackdown and not falling off the edge of things, not sure how I'll fair in 1st person.
Other than that my only other quibbles are that it seems like advertising for puma's Parkour shoes
http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.tonyhardman.com/images/ppf_final_shoe_pg_1_print__large_.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.tonyhardman.com/Puma_Parkour_Concept.php&h=781&w=1024&sz=76&hl=en&start=1&sig2=4jU7xim7n7fhxxWn4I4OhQ&um=1&tbnid=wfxfxojhkNGHCM:&tbnh=114&tbnw=150&ei=nWwhSOOxIJvo0QTQzPXlAg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dsplit%2Btoe%2Bparkour%2Bshoe%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN
(but then it is EA) and also I'd much prefer to go out an do actual Parkour, than do it in a game (something I actually do). Although I don't get to be a sexy girl and kick people in the face in real life.
Final question. Any idea on rating? You can steal peoples guns, but can you shoot them in the face with it?
Crono @ May 7th 2008 6:09AM
This game looks like it will offer a new way to play, different from every other first person shooter for sure. Looks remarkably fluid for such an early build too. Can't wait.
