Rumor: Beyond Good & Evil sequel in the works

According to a post on PSLegion that outlines the latest rumors from PSM3's "Insider," Ubisoft may still release a sequel to the 2003 critically acclaimed title, Beyond Good & Evil. While the third-person adventure game was revered as a critical darling when it hit last-gen consoles and PC, the title was a commercial disaster. Within months of its release BG&E had been reduced from $50 to $20 but could never achieve the success seen by other popular Ubisoft debuts that year; Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell.
Other Xbox 360 related rumors from "The Insider" include:
- Prepare for a Leisure Suit Larry movie ... (*sigh*)
- EA is returning to Springfield for another Simpsons game ... (Are bug fixes optional?)
- Call of Duty 5, currently in development by Treyarch have been working on the game for two years, far longer than the standard nine month process ... (Nine months? That explains CoD3. Ba-Zing!)

Joy. BG&E wasn't "spectacular", but I thought it was farily awesome and fun.

I agree, maybe now Beyond Good and Evil can actually be backwards compatible on my 360! >:(

I was never able to find the game for GameCube, so when I saw a used XBOX copy for $5 I picked it up, only to find that it wouldn't work with the 360. I've still not gotten to play it....

As much as I'd love for it to, it ain't gonna happen.Unless like 10 years later when it achieves Fallout-Levels of Cult Following.

Why can't people stop bashing COD 3?
It looks better than COD 2. There's running, throwing back grenades, disarming bombs, and vehicles. More interesting achievements.
I really doubt they did it in 9 months though.
That would be pretty impressive.

CoD3 was absolutely a pile of crap. Compared with CoD2 and 4 just story alone beat the living hell out of CoD3. The game was garbage, the story lacking, and the mechanics completely flawed. I don't know how many times I was killed by some 120% accuracy machine gun emplacement while hiding behind a brick wall...or how about how many times my teammates failed to move forward and just stood there?
And lets talk about achievements...I completed that terrible game on Veteran. Took me little over a week which is decent I guess considering the frustrating moments in the game. Well when I was done with the game, on veteran, I did not get the achievement for all that hard work. Why? well because I decided to replay a level as I missed the Jeep jump. So now I have to play the game yet again.
And do I have to mention the online achievements...?

Don't play with my heart strings...
If another BG&E game came out for 360 I would snatch it up...I still occasionally play the first one...I have beat it countless times.

Isn't that the girl from half-life?

I totally thought that was alyx vance in green lipstick when i first saw the image.
I never played BG&E but according to the comments i suppose i should be excited.

I'd prefer EA made a good Simpsons game first, then worried about the bugs. I love the Simpsons, I couldn't stand that game. Everything about it felt like an amateur-ish offbrand platformer I would have bought on the PlayStation when it first came out.

Wow you’re ignorant.
I bet you're someone who lauds McDonalds as the "illest food ever".

If I recall, I was only a little disappointed by the ending of the first one, but otherwise it was fantastic. A true gem. I hope that this is true.

Leisure Suit Larry Movie isn't news... You should see all the hot chicks in it. Zing!
James @ May 8th 2008 12:28PM
BG&E (I hate typing that acronym -- if you live in the state of Maryland you already know why =-) was a pretty damn solid game, and I enjoyed it a lot. IIRC, there wasn't much replay value, unfortunately, but with a few tweaks they could make it the next Ratchet and Clank -- I play those 3 or 4 times each, usually. This would probably be a first-day buy for me.
CharleyTony @ May 8th 2008 12:46PM
Leisure suit larry: the movie is going to be a disaster. No one in his right mind would touch that IP. If you want to make a sexy and funny movie you would have to stray so far from the source material that naming it Leisure Suit Larry would be senseless

Hope it turns out to be true, BG&E was a great game. As for Call of Duty, call me when 6 gets here. Treyarch FTL.

No idea how reliable her site is because I don't play close enough attention, but the Surfer Girl rumor blog has been saying this for a while about BG&E2. According to it, Ancel was so pissed off about Rayman Raving Rabbids (he wanted to actually make a real Rayman platformer again) that Ubisoft let him make any game he wanted, or something like that.
bcklenz @ May 8th 2008 1:22PM
I loved Beyond Good and Evil and with it's ending, I'm shocked that a sequel hasn't materialized yet.
Hobo Fight Club @ May 8th 2008 9:05PM
I heard a rumor from somewhere that the Judd Apatow, the director of The 40 Year Old Virgin, was going to be involved in the Leisure Suit Larry film. It might have been something I read on Surfergirl's site.
G.A.Pster @ May 13th 2008 3:07AM
Woops sorry about the above post, I misread it and thought you were saying that about BG&E.
