Greenberg attacks Sony on failure to live up to their promises

Aaron Greenberg Takes Off His Gloves
"We have been fighting Sony's promises from the day we entered the market. Three years ago at E3 they showed what PS3 games would supposedly look like with the Killzone 2 video, that we are now learning will ship four years later. That means that we will have shipped Gears of War and Gears of War 2 before they can even get Killzone out the door."
"Think back to GDC 2007 when Sony promised to leap ahead in online with the Sony Home unveil. Here we are two years later and multiple delays for a product that has appears to have little to no buzz. Where are the achievements? The friends list integration across all games? Where is the long-promised video store?"
"Where are all the other products using and networking with their Cell chip? How come Blu-ray did not result in better games? What happened with Sixaxis and rumble? Where is the complete 1080p game library we were promised? If Blu-ray, as they said, would be such a catalyst to PS3 console sales, then why have PS3 sales over the past couple months not seen any lift since the format victory?"

What is he going on about?
Better that Sony delay than rush out the door, I am still sadened by my RRoD, and I am lucky to have only got one. Although my PS3 is relegated to Blu-ray duty for the time being as there aren't really any games.
emirabal @ May 9th 2008 2:09PM
U raise a good point but what this guy is trying to say is that they have left people stranded basically (sony fanboys) especially early adopters, all be it 360 has major issues but as long as msoft keeps up with its hardware support since they know the messed up and keeps updating live and keeps kicking ass wit the cheevos, this guys points are all valid.
Big Bird @ May 9th 2008 2:15PM
I think you answered your own question. He is going on about the facts. No games, lack of delievery on everything they promised, and sales are lack luster because they are out of Sony Zombies to buy these movie players.
Kizzle @ May 9th 2008 1:58PM
This is to be expected after Sony has been needling Microsoft for the last week.
Obviously he's not the most unbiased source but that doesn't change the fact that he is spot on with a lot of that.
The "better to delay than rush!" argument is nonsense...if it were the case for one or two things, then yeah, it's better to wait. But they've pretty much "delayed" EVERYTHING. They didn't even get their goddamn rumble controller out the door in the U.S. until just now. Poor planning, poor execution.
Dom @ May 9th 2008 1:59PM
GREENBERG FTMFW!!! PURE FUCKING OWNAGE BITCHES!!!
Anthology @ May 9th 2008 2:01PM
Dont count sony out yet, im sure they will delivery the promises soon, or at least when PS4 comes out....maybe. Till then play your 360.
AoE @ May 9th 2008 2:15PM
yup, they'll deliver a fresh new batch of promises! results however?...
Big Bird @ May 9th 2008 2:15PM
We don't need to count Sony out, they count themselves out. They have never and will never listen to consumers on any issue. They give you what they want to give you and you will like it because they know best. That mentality just doesn’t stand up anymore in this market. They tried to one up Microsoft the whole way and what did they give? Nothing to back it up typical So(rr)ny behavior. I go to theaters to watch movies, keep your media player clowns.
Trekster_Gamer @ May 9th 2008 6:05PM
Sony will deliver on it's promises just in time for the next generation of consoles now thats timing....
Forget the PS3 it's the 360 all the way baby!
ZenGaijin @ May 9th 2008 2:04PM
I own a 360 but there is tons of stuff promised from Microsoft that we have never seen. "Velocity girl" remember that?
Sony is damn slow on the promises but they have been making numerous strides as far as PSP PS3 connectivity , free online service & downloadable games that rival retail release in terms of content (i.e Warhawk, SOCOM,). All these consoles just offer different experiences and with MGS4, Gears2, Fable2, Resistence2, Killzone2 & NinjaGaiden2 we have quite a year on our hands for both consoles.
AoE @ May 9th 2008 2:17PM
I thought velocity girl was the name J.Allard dubbed casual gamers? Please explain.
ZenGaijin @ May 9th 2008 2:20PM
Basically, what J said was that if a user "Velocity Girl" really liked a series she would be able to design something about the francise she loves (i.e a shirt). Then, sell it on Xbox Live and make a profit that would go to her as a consumer.
Hearing that now that I have no idea how he could say that with a straight face. We still can't get user generated content for Unreal Tournament 3.
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 9th 2008 6:59PM
MS said "every major 1st party Xbox franchise will make an appearance on 360".
And yet no sign of Mechassault yet. Or Rallisport Challenge.
Anticrawl @ May 9th 2008 9:19PM
Mech Assult? Are you a moron or were you just living in a cave when Microsoft desolved FASA studios?
Sinnix @ May 9th 2008 2:04PM
Yeah, I'm really loving the dual video outs and local eight player games on my PS3. It's SO awesome.
Dolgo @ May 9th 2008 2:06PM
Ok im real tired of people feeling as if they have had their soul crushed by having the Red Ring of Death! The amazing library and great online made me just say "just get me up and going MS" when I got the RROD. It happened around 8 months ago and I don't look back. If it happened again I would still say "that sucks but get me fixed", and I would continue to enjoy the great line up of games once I was set up with another 360.
Oh and Greenberg nailed it on the head...
I have a PS3 too im not a MS fanboy or a PS3 fanboy, im a game fanboy.
Muffin_man @ May 9th 2008 2:25PM
I agree completely, at least MS fixes hardware problems for free Sony actually charges for hardware faults.
Van Faulk @ May 9th 2008 3:49PM
Amen. Greenburg is my new Hero. Sony's been playing that "just wait...it'll get better" card since 05. And we still don't have in game xmb...or home...or really anything aside from rfom.
IN fact when you consider how many games and features sony have had to delay...we have to ask if ms isn't the only one who rushed their console to market.
James @ May 9th 2008 3:56PM
Well, when my year-after-launch 360 craps out at 3 years and a day, and my RRoD warranty has dried up, I'm going to be pretty pissed. Especially when my launch PS3 is still A-OK....
bluerei @ May 9th 2008 4:28PM
@Muffin_man
"I agree completely, at least MS fixes hardware problems for free Sony actually charges for hardware faults."
My psp and my brother's ps3 warranty expired a long time ago. when it broke, Sony still paid shipping, fixed it for free, and got it back in 3 days. Get your facts straight.
Ninjakamster (PSN: Chin-Poh) @ May 9th 2008 6:09PM
The reason why Microsoft does the repairs for free is because the RROD is much more prevalent than any of the PS3's hardware issues.
If Microsoft did not do this for free, they would have faced a massive shitstorm.
Don't fucking kid yourself, Microsoft didn't do this out of the kindness of their heart, they really were forced to.
I'm not speaking against 360, I actually wanted one but my brother wanted a PS3 and paid for most of it so eh, I like it as well but will try to get a 360 later when I have more time to devote to games.
borocouncilman @ May 9th 2008 2:10PM
"What happened with Sixaxis and rumble?"
It's called DualShock 3 and you can buy them everywhere. There are valid criticisms when it comes to online gaming on the PS3. That said, there actually some decent games on the platform now. If you're a serious gamer, you really need to own both.
Bmurph @ May 9th 2008 2:14PM
Yeah, because every serious gamer is going to drop $1000.
Digital Limit @ May 9th 2008 2:19PM
What games are forcing me to own both? There's only one game worth the $400 entry fee, and it's not even out yet. And no, I'm talking about Killzone 2.
And the rumble complaint is completely valid, especially when they lied about their inability to use rumble with the sixaxis technology. Sony does so much to make itself look shadier than Microsoft. It's embarrassing.
Kabapu @ May 9th 2008 5:47PM
Puh-lease. That Six-Axis / rumble excuse of "Sony lies" is so ridiculous. They were in the middle of litigation when they said that. They *had* to say it. They couldn't say "We can't include it because it would be infringing on a copyright" while they're in the middle of fighting the point in the courts. It was an excuse that everyone *knew* wasn't true simply due to the fact that they were in a court battle over the technology.
"Lies" implies someone being mislead. If you actually believed the excuse then you were simply ignorant ... kinda like Aaron Greenburg.
Jer @ May 12th 2008 10:43AM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Kaz say that the consumer doesn't care about rumble?
borocouncilman @ May 9th 2008 2:12PM
Agreed. People make too big a deal of RROD. Every 360 at our office has failed, but the replacement boxes soldier on without incident.
Digital Limit @ May 9th 2008 2:21PM
That's a great point.
Sure, my 360 died. Didn't stop me from getting it replaced within the month. And I picked up a temporary 360 to occupy myself with in the mean time. It's ridiculous that I had to do it, sure, but to use it as the catch-all for deflecting Sony's negatives is even sillier.
Big Bird @ May 9th 2008 2:27PM
Since when did "Serious Gamer" = Brain Dead?
Brucie B @ May 9th 2008 2:14PM
HAHAHA Let the Fanboism Begin!
ccc @ May 9th 2008 2:20PM
Well, he makes very valid points and no one can deny that only say just wait. While I think 360 is the best console ever made I am planning on picking up a ps3 for the sheer fact of Tekken 6 and the king of Fighters 12. Two very key games MS either has no intrest in acquiring or cannot (tekken).
These are games that are just fun to me and I can play without thinking about achievements.
Ofcoarse if the above mentioned games hit the 360 I have little intrest in this machine.
Its a shame, the people at MS that decide what should and shouldn't be on the 360 is leading me down another road. One that leads to the ps3.
ez054098 @ May 9th 2008 2:21PM
Wait, what did Porkens say?
Gemini Ace @ May 9th 2008 2:35PM
Who cares what Greenburg says? He's a corporate stooge. Nothing more.
Green_Ogre @ May 9th 2008 2:42PM
Eh, sony may have better hardware, but their games suck. Even the ones that are multiplatform pale in comparison to the version that comes out on the 360. Sure, for a very select few, the trend is actually reversed, but 9 times out of 10, the 360 game is probably going to be better than the PS3 version. (UT3 is one noticable exception. PS3 has one over us 360 fanboys. COD4 is supposedly unnoticable. GTA IV however, runs at a lower resolution than the 360's version.) Also, one of the worst examples was Madden NFL 08 and a few other ones released by the same company including NCAA, run at 60fps on the 360 and 30fps on the PS3. So yeah, PS3 hardware might be better, but the 360 has better games. (Halo 3, Bioshock, GoW)
kyle @ May 9th 2008 2:57PM
this is y im happy with the 360, the ps3 announces things but are not all available atm, yes its nice they r not rushing but its the pt of it not being there
The Mighty Ant @ May 9th 2008 3:00PM
meh...buy what you want, play what you want...remember "the cake is a lie"
Adam @ May 9th 2008 3:10PM
What i have been saying all along.I get called a idiot that makes no sense but because greenberg says it people listen.
This is all 100% true the ps3 is a piece of shit that doesnt belong on the market. It doesnt do what it is marketed as.
A game machine thats supposed to be the best but it lacks so bad it might as well be a wii.
Justin @ May 9th 2008 3:10PM
I smell fear.
xboxrulez1985 @ May 9th 2008 3:21PM
This guy looks like a retarded sloth.
NeoJedi Knight @ May 9th 2008 3:22PM
Way to go Greenberg!!!
That said, I enjoy my PS3 for what it is, a Sony game player (MGS, Ratchet, Jak), just like my Wii is a Nintendo player (Mario, Zelda, Metroid). Anything that's cross platform gets defaulted to my 360 because of the online (when it's not down...), achievements, integrated friends list, and my rumble-enabled controller (I shouldn't have to fork over more money to replace my Six-Axis with a DualShock 3...).
Rez @ May 9th 2008 3:38PM
Well the guy is spot on with every fact stated. I own both a 360 and Ps3 and my PS3 just sit's there now lucky to see the odd overpriced BlurRay movie pass through it's slot. I paid through the nose for it on it's European release expecting the ultimate next gen console gaming. How stupid I was to believe the Sony hype machine. 2 years on and they've failed to deliver on 80% of what was promised. Fuck'em. Long live the great 360.
Procris @ May 9th 2008 3:39PM
Sadly, whenever anyone from Microsoft points out that anyone has alot of delays, the RRoD will come back and bite them in the ass. True though, most of his comments are spot on about Sony. Sony make a lot of promises that don't always fully come to pass. IS that a bad thing? Not in my opinion. Delays often help with quality. We like quality.
I'm surprised Greenburg didn't see that making such bold "words" against Sony will ultimately just turn into Sony retorting "You rushed and have RRoD" but then no one remembers that the PS2 disk drives had problems. Not that thats an issue anymore.
skins for ng2 for sale @ May 9th 2008 3:41PM
sales are really going down m$???
joey @ May 9th 2008 3:45PM
So he's saying that PS3 is like Vista.
HazyCloud @ May 9th 2008 3:50PM
Yes, rushed out and overpriced.
Adam @ May 9th 2008 3:55PM
I love how people say "xbox live when its down"
I can remember one time in the 2 years i had my console that it was actually down that was last year.People need something else besides the long gone issue since "falcon" of rrod which is backed by a free 3 year warrenty and a 1 time nuissance of live down time.
hmm tons of games to play vs hardly anything to play?
you decide i mean hell you wouldnt buy a toyota corolla and try and race with it would you?
bigd7387 @ May 9th 2008 3:57PM
That's why I just sold my PS3 a couple of days ago and went back to MS with a 360 Elite with a Falcon Motherboard and BenQ drive. I only the PS3 for 4 months but I was tired of the Cancellations, Delays, Inferiorior Games compared to the 360 and promises of more future vaporware. I would have to turn the brightness up on my Sony HD TV to the highest level to just get rid of the darkness and it still didn't help. You have to install every new game now since the Blu-ray drive is to slow to keep up. Also since it uses a really stupid memory alignment it has only a 256mb graphics card and 256mb of main ram that cannot be shared. You will never see 1080p game standards since it doesn't have the power to do so for a standard game unless it's one of their crappy arcade type games. I'm so happy to have a 360 and would rather go thru a hundred 360's then to ever go back to Sony and their craptactular game systems. Promise some more Fony. Your Fanboys deserve it.
Mikezula @ May 9th 2008 4:17PM
Reeves vs. Greenburg: this can only be settled in MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!
Greenburg's attacks aside: seriously, just enjoy your games.
bulletproof Shart! @ May 9th 2008 5:07PM
i,ve had 3 360's since it came out i have an elite now. i even had one from the first batch made and i never had any RROD or any problems at all with any. the first 2 i had to hock to make rent. i think this guy is on point tho
Player1 @ May 9th 2008 5:19PM
So what? I'm on my 4th 360 and I can't even get all my friends into a match together on CoD4 or GTA IV, and it's not the NAT settings. We had live go down for a month over the holidays. Don't bitch about your competition living up to it's promises when your own stuff doesn't even work.
