New setting for Call of Duty 5, Bond game powered by Call of Duty 4 engine

After a recent earnings call, Activision outlined plans to release a new entry into the Call of Duty series by the end of its 2009 fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2009. "We'll launch on all four platforms we've participated on in fiscal [year] 2008," Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith said, refering to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's debut on the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Nintendo DS; a PS2 and Wii version are also in the works.
Griffith also revealed that Call of Duty 5 will see the franchise move into a new "military theater." Long-standing suspicion has been that Call of Duty 3 developer Treyarch would return the franchise to its World War II roots but Griffith's comments seem to debunk that setting rumor. Griffith did not mention whether Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward or rumored Treyarch would take the reins as the Call of Duty 5 developer.
On the subject of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Griffith revealed the James Bond licensed title that is currently in development by Treyarch will be powered by the CoD4 engine and release around the time of the latest Bond film, Quantum of Solace, this fall.
The only question to answer now is which war could Call of Duty 5 be based on. The answer? Civil. Muskets = Win.

Boff @ May 9th 2008 10:36AM
For me personally, the more modern the better.
What can I say I'm a sucker for laser guns and hi-tech gadgets!
I'll remain optimistic on the James Bond title, you know how most movie tie-ins are.....
svenhoek @ May 11th 2008 2:48AM
Using the same engine as CoD4 for the new Bond game? Excellent. Now if only they could reassemble Rare and have them work on it.
The Beta Max @ May 9th 2008 10:43AM
Regardless of when/where it takes place, one thing is for sure: Call of Duty 5 will not be as good as Call of Duty 4. You can take that to the bank.

Yeah, good thinking.

Treyarch Blows, but I'll give it a fair try!
iLuvUrOpinion @ May 9th 2008 10:52AM
I hope that Treyarch does a much better job than COD3. It was still a great game, but Infinity Ward's COD2 and COD4 were better. I trust there will be a lot of pressure to deliver an excellent product now that COD4 has raised the bar to a whole-nodda-leva!
Nathan Keller @ May 9th 2008 10:55AM
God I hope Treyarch doesn't get their talentless hands on this games.
webster1990 @ May 9th 2008 12:57PM
Sorry to inform you, but yeah.
Treyarch is making this one. Inifnity Ward and Treyarch have a take it in turns style aproach to the COD series.
nevermind, there is always next year.
CmpsdNoMore @ May 9th 2008 10:56AM
If they go with a "futuristic" battlefield with lasers and robots I will absolutely not buy it.
I may even just rent it, anyway. I seem to be getting burned out on Call of Duty games.
vidGuy @ May 9th 2008 10:58AM
For a long time now, I've been jonesing for Call of Duty 5: Nazis in Space. Make it happen.

I have a few fantasies for Infinity Ward and the COD 4 engine to pair up on again..let me indulge:
A GOOD Predator/Aliens game. Just imagine playing as Dutch, fighting off the cloaked Predator in a heavily forested, COD4-real jungle...(yeah, forest, jungle..whatever.) Multiplayer could be Predator (Yautja) clans fighting or training, or perhaps an Alien/Predator type.
Another idea...a COD4-engine run post-apocalyptic game. Still within the confines of 'real' armies and gunbattles, the world could be in total disarray and the fight could be for territory, water, other supplies. Multiplayer maps could be biohazard-infected areas, abandoned suburbs, chemical plants, desolate, overgrown downtown areas (I Am Legend), things like that.
Hell, maybe zombies could make an appearance!
Just some ideas...

Civil war or revolution is the way to go.We need some open fields with trenches and trees.Muskets blazing cannons blasting kick ass fun.
wickedpheonix @ May 9th 2008 2:43PM
Yeah seriously? Just fuck with history a moment so we can have automatic muskets and the like, put in trees and rolling hills, maybe a couple railroad missions and that would be awesome :D (no, I'm not being sarcastic :P)
Adam @ May 9th 2008 3:14PM
Just imagine mission on horseback with the cavalry.Protecting trains from the union or rebel army.Online multiplayer would be insane.
They had submarines during the civilwar as well as hot air baloons etc.Imagine sniping from a hot airbaloon over a battlefield lol.
joey @ May 9th 2008 11:47AM
You guys got it all wrong.
It's the same game.
Call of Duty 5: Bond, James Bond
bean @ May 9th 2008 12:51PM
they'll be taking the war to the covenant...that would be awesome...
oh yeah, if they don't stick with infinity ward, they're fucking retarded...anyone remember CoD3? If you don't, it was the shitty CoD right before CoD4...
m0rb1d @ May 9th 2008 1:18PM
If Trey Arch takes this series back to the WWII era, they can kiss my ass! COD3 SUCKED!!! And I've had it with WWII games!
CynicalStrike @ May 9th 2008 1:48PM
It's going to be WWI.
Level 1: Sit in a trench having the crap shelled out of you.
Level 2: Play football with the Germans at Christmas 1914.
Level 3: Sit in a trench having the crap shelled out of you.
Level 4: Develop Trench Foot.
Level 5: Go insane in a military hospital.
Then one of the characters does a jaunty music-hall numbers over the end credits, describing the events of the game.
Feral Infant @ May 9th 2008 4:36PM
Or they could adapt Johnny Got His Gun.
Level 1: get horribly injured in WW1, losing all your limbs and your sight & hearing.
Level 2-X: chillax in a hospital
modeman @ May 9th 2008 2:21PM
Nice line X3F. There's not enough turn-based FPS action out there.
shatzmcpants @ May 9th 2008 4:29PM
CoD5:Vietnam....please?
robert @ May 9th 2008 6:19PM
HELL YES! There aren't enough Vietnam games out there, this would be BADASS!
