First Banjo-Kazooie 3 screens surface [update]

Hitting the internets today are two alleged leaked screenshots from Rare's upcoming Banjo-Kazooie 3 and, if legit, they'd be our first look at what we can expect from Rare's cartoon duo. Personally, the screenshots (viewable in the gallery below) look to be rather official and could be associated with some sort of press kit that's set to release as part of Microsoft's press event they're holding next week. For analysis' sake, let's say these are real Banjo-Kazooie 3 screens, what is your knee-jerk impression of Rare's handiwork?

looks awesome. Go to the comments on the original articles page, everyone is hating on it. I say, whatever, it looks fantastic to me.
pj @ May 11th 2008 1:43PM
Looks incredible. Granted if those are indeed actual screenshots of gameplay, they are fantastic.
Let the haters hate on.
Digital Limit @ May 11th 2008 1:52PM
There are people hating on this? Looks phenomenal. I can't wait to play the game, if it's anything like the originals in the series.
mikazi @ May 11th 2008 2:00PM
It's mostly the Nintendo fanboys who are hating on this as they're jealous :D
BananaBoat @ May 12th 2008 12:04AM
I don't hate on it because I'm against formerly Nintendo franchises, or anything like that. I hate on it because I think the "Let's collect 100 different arbitrary types of feathers and gems and crap" genre is dead. I can't say that this game will be more of that though, since I haven't played it, but I'm hoping they take it in a new direction from how it used to be.
Then again, we are talking about a game that might hit in 2009 if the developers really push it hard, so it's not worth complaining at this point =P
Ethan @ May 11th 2008 1:58PM
Hallor, i be a hatey man.
Can I just say I think it looks a bit like those first wave game with the 'chuck in the effects' look to it. Things gleam for no reason. And those DOF effects seem a bit on or off with nowhere in-between.
Obviously we probably shouldn't be seeing these screens and it's not exactly ready, but based on this I think it's competitors, Ratchet and Clank, and, yes, mario are more visually appealing to kids and such.
Peacefuloutrage @ May 11th 2008 2:36PM
Because the little kiddies and most of the grown ups that play games do it for that reason.
Me: "Come on, let's play the new Banjo Kazoie game!"
My 7 year-old nephew: "Those depth of field effects aren't realistic, and the water look too fake. Besides, that game looks fun, I'd rather go next door and play with Susie's doll babies."
Baligouxji @ May 11th 2008 1:58PM
The grahpics look great, and I'm sure it's going to be a high quality game. At this point... just based off these two screen shots, I'm worried the game might be completely based on vechicles or something unusual like that. I'm not too concerned considering that if it still has "worlds" "zones" "levels" "areas" this would appear to be the machine influenced one. It's still worrying me when rare said something similar to: "It wont be the typical platformer"
Hobo Fight Club @ May 11th 2008 2:30PM
Vehicle based gameplay would seem to fall in line with the rumor that the game would use the 360 Wii-mote.
Digital Limit @ May 11th 2008 3:08PM
Rare has said that the beginning level will make platformer junkies very happy. I imagine the games gameplay slowly goes in the direction you fear, but there'll definitely be something for everyone.
mike @ May 11th 2008 11:42PM
a 360 wiimote = pure failure. That one of the crappy things keeping me away from a wii. When the gamecube was ultra unpopular, I still owned one. I liked playing metroid prime 1 and 2. I still want to paly nintendos 1st party games, but this wii mote is garbage. I feel like an idiot using it and I dont feel more imerssed with the game at all. even the most pupular games (smash and MK) have the vast majority of players using the gamecube controllers.
Down with motion controls. (or at least until a proper controller is released which has 1:1 mapping on every game its used with instead of retarded wiggles and pokes being good enough for the sensors)
flameofdoom666 @ May 11th 2008 2:09PM
I WANT!
DaMan09 @ May 11th 2008 2:14PM
I dont see why people are hating this, they look beautiful.
Tony @ May 11th 2008 2:33PM
I have no idea what people are looking at if they think this looks anything like a first wave title. Nothing is "gleaming" that shouldn't be in these two pictures.
PeacefulOutrage @ May 11th 2008 2:41PM
You can't please everyone. I don't care as long as it's fun. Some of these people must go into convultions when they see people play games like tetris or pitfall.
haukke @ May 11th 2008 8:02PM
enev gta a supposed 10 is a collectathon with all those birds.
Roto13 @ May 11th 2008 2:51PM
Looks pretty. But the game will probably suck. The first two games were mediocre Super Mario 64 knockoffs and Rare has only gone downhill since then.
Digital Limit @ May 11th 2008 3:07PM
Heh, talk about denial. Both Banjo games took plenty diverging routes in their form to not be a ripoff, something reflected in the phenomenal review scores the previous iterations received.).
Roto13 @ May 11th 2008 3:35PM
Please. Banjo Kazooie was a collect-a-thon. Apparently that's what Rare thinks adventure games are supposed to be. Each game gives you progressively more crap to hunt down for no reason. Look at Banjo-Tooie, Donkey Kong 64, and Star Fox Adventures. It's ridiculous.
flameofdoom666 @ May 11th 2008 3:52PM
They are not rip off's at all. They may borrow ideas, but they go futher then Super Mario 64 did, and they were better games.
Digital Limit @ May 11th 2008 5:47PM
And collectathons are a bad thing? You'll find that most good games have collectathoniness at their heart. God knows Crackdown is a superb example of this tried and true formula.
Roto13 @ May 11th 2008 5:51PM
Yes, it's a bad thing. A massive scavenger hunt doesn't make a good game. It's just annoying. Most good games have some collecting in them. No good games have as much collecting as Rare adventure games.

Mr Khan @ May 11th 2008 3:27PM
Graphical style reminds me distinctly of LittleBigPlanet
Which, of course, is a good thing
ushman @ May 11th 2008 3:35PM
That is what I thought when I first seen them.
Enon777 @ May 11th 2008 5:12PM
I am sooo excited about not playing this game. I love how not interesting it is. I'll be spending my time playing grown up games for my next gen consoles. Throw that shat to the Wii and let them drool or it. Apple sauce anyone???

What...no...can it be? This actually looks cool?! Thank god.
silentshadowxp @ May 11th 2008 7:42PM
i'm affraid of what the new direction might be... if it's the rts/platformer hybrid mentioned in the april fools 5 rumors, i might vomit >.<
as for the screens, they look great... kinda disappionted that kazooie doesnt appear to fly anymore, but maybe banajo uses the plane when he's split from her? the "mumbo's nuts" is funny but why trade in magic for being a mechanic??? hopefully humbawumba still does magic... i like the patchwork look to the level, wouldnt mind it if the whole game has that look to it...
but all in all, as long as the gameplay isnt too different, i'll probably like it...
Mrblonde @ May 11th 2008 9:48PM
Im really liking. Loved the first two
Haohmaru @ May 11th 2008 9:58PM
The whole "hand-made" look does seem very close to Little Big Planet's style. However, I don't care. It looks fun, and I enjoyed the first two Banjo games, so of course I want this - but the guy who said the N64 Banjo games were better games than the 3D Mario games is nuts.
CB @ May 12th 2008 12:38AM
Ton of more leaked screens: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=293946&page=5
Ninegauger @ May 12th 2008 2:47AM
Man... I wanted a good platformer where I collected stuff... I love those kind of games and I thought the 360 might get a good one with Banjo-Kazooie (the first was probably the best Mario 64 clone until Jak and Daxter)... based solely on these screen it looks like some sort of vehicle game (even if there are platforming parts) which doesn't really make me happy.
And really, a wii-mote? What do I need that for? I have a Wii... which already has the exclusive content of the best game developer in the world and Rare has seen many years since they were evenconsidered a top tier developer.
I hope they balance vehicle parts with platforming (with a focus on the latter) or I'll probably just skip it.
Digital Limit @ May 12th 2008 2:51AM
I love this kind of close-mindedness. They're introducing something new and you immediately put your foot down. It's this kind of thinking that keeps developers churning out the same derivative game after game. Don't take that mindset.
Then again, you're probably not aware of what they're even doing with the vehicle system. It's a kind of construct-your-own-vehicle thing, which should be quite interesting.
And yeah, haven't hear a peep that this game would use the rumored 360mote. Don't bet on it.
SoulPatch @ May 12th 2008 11:51AM
Anyone else excited, yet sad, about the Scene It? sequel? I mean, I loved the first one and still haven't seen all the questions, but I feel a little slighted with no DLC just a sequel that I have to buy. I hope they add online play to the sequel. I did not understand why it was not on there originally.
And if anyone asks why make a sequel to this game, I would say it is probably really cheap to make. The only thing to pay for is the right to use the videos from the movies, which in the end, are not that expensive. So if they sell just a few copies, they will make a profit. Kind of like all those fantastic reality shows we know and love!
