Graphics Comparison of War
We're aware of the recent GameTrailers comparison video debacle, which we assume was an honest error rather than a deliberate one, but here's another one to look at. Comparing footage from Gears of War to the recent gameplay footage of Gears of War 2, we can see slight improvements in the Unreal Engine 3 graphics. Character models look less "rubbery" and smooth. The game also features something that was rare in Gears, sunlight--and it looks nice.
While Gears of War had to prove the power of the Xbox 360, Gears of War 2 has more to prove in terms of storytelling after releases like BioShock, Portal and Grand Theft Auto IV have taken the stage. The storyline in Gears of War was underwhelming to say the least but we have high hopes for Gears 2 and everything it will teach us about Microsoft's newest universe. But so help you Epic if we have to play as a Locust.

Well, looks like a pretty substantial improvement. Gears 2 has more than just a handful of colors, thats good. Also, I'm liking the increased number of enemies.

Story? Gears had a story?
Reuben @ May 12th 2008 7:39PM

Something about a resonator. At least it's a cool word.
EMOruffino @ May 12th 2008 11:39PM
it needs to get its story straight.. i dont know if i was the only person that actually caught this BUT!!!
the game was based on a planet (not earth) but in multiplayer when you lose as a cog, that old man yells PEOPLE OF EARTH... so umm.. yea...

nto sure why u add portal to the "proven storys" in video games. it was shorter than gears and had no real story other than u were trapped in a testing lab by some robot named glados. u shoulda used mass effect in my opinion.

The story in GOW was immense to say the least, the little book in the limited edition (i spent the money) leads to the story itself, they give you more of the story in the intro "the humans of sera", they are giving you enough info, i just get sick and tired when there is sufficient story in a game but people want some sort of bible epilogue attached to every game.
Look, GOW kept the story simple and to the point, why does it have to be more than that, and clearly there was an underlying theme in the whole game, for christs sake we are on another planet, wheres the mystery in that, they cant give all their secrets away.
If part 2 plays the same as part 1 and they give me the same amount of info, so be it, game play is awesome, amazingly awesome and story would make me want more but then who knows what they want to do with the franchise.
By no means take it that i don't want an in depth story, but lets quit complaining that the story wasn't enough, the story held the game play together and when 2 comes out, i think they have made it clear to give us more info in the game.
And so help me, i wouldn't mind playing as a locust, i think it would be awesome, maybe even worth its own game.......
I welcome any and all backlash, i can take the comments.

I know this is going to annoy some gears fan but the only difference I can see is improved lighting and the ability to handle more on screen characters and we learned all of this from the GDC engine showcase and we already knew (well suspected) about the chainsaw animations because of the bare your teeth trailer
(On the more character note) how does being able to see 100 locust really make this game more intense when all Marcus was fighting were a few reapers (I understand this is just a snippet from one level) I hope there are parts where you have to hold of a "horde" or fight your way through a garrison, otherwise its just a background that’s taking up to much memory (but does look amazing)
However the new weapons looks cool and the new interactions with the characters seems promising

it's funny that for such a short trailer some peeps can make conclusions to a new game....

It looks much better.Better lighting and better textures thus better graphics.Best graphics i have seen this gen so far for anything coming to console.
Alot of people dont want to believe this is going to be so good graphicaly "specificaly fanboys of a certain console" but its going to be amazing.
TORO @ May 13th 2008 9:59AM
The graphics in Gears 1 alone are still among the best out there, so it doesn't need much improvement.

Looks like they expanded their color palette a lot, which is a good thing, in my opinion. I thought Gears 1 was pretty monochromatic and had a lot of muddy colors. Nice to see more vibrancy and more then just grays and browns.
The new lighting engine looks phenomenal as well!
As for story, I thought Gears 1 had enough to carry it through. The game focused more on giving us an action packed adventure with great game play instead of inundating us with tons of dialog-heavy cut scenes. Isn't that what it's all about in the first place?
I'm SO looking forward to playing this!
Ysleiro @ May 13th 2008 3:39PM
Gears one did have a story.
Albeit it wasn't close to Bioshock status.
Dom has a tatto on his arm of that girl Maria they are going to bring in the GoW2. Also when they are going to get the vehicle that black guy from the "stranded" camp makes mention of a lady Dom is looking for.
So the games do tie in pretty nicely. It could have been better but hey, thats what sequels are for.
