Video: Flawless 'The Perfect Drug' drumming
In news that isn't timely but is still very important because of the "holy crap!" reaction it gets, we bring you video of IBitePrettyHard drumming to Rock Band's "The Perfect Drug" DLC at 100% perfect, no faults and completely flawless. A 1,893 note streak? In-freakin-credible! Note that this video is not to be confused with the other expertly drummed "The Perfect Drug" video we posted about this past February, because it wasn't 100% perfect. Also, this new video shows not only the notes being played but the player's drum movements, which is rather interesting. Man, if only we had an ounce of Rock Band talent ...

Yeah, he's good, but if I had that drumset it'd be a lot easier than the crap one that came with the game. If he's that good lets see him play it with that retartded little footpedal the rest of us play with.
Royale @ May 12th 2008 3:56PM
Looking for excuses for your ineptitude. Either way it was incredible. The foot pedal is only 1 part of the notes played.
xtremesniper @ May 12th 2008 4:08PM
I have to agree with Satanlka.. The drums the game comes with are pure crap. It misses random notes for no apparent reason, and I can't find a pattern. One in every 15 notes or so will just miss for no good reason at all. I have the less sensitive set as well, which makes matters worse.
Contemplating sending them in to EA...
Satanlka @ May 12th 2008 4:10PM
My ineptitude? triple word score for you brainiac. I said he was good didn't I. Did I imply that I was as good no.... BUT if he's going to claim to be flawless, let him level the playing field and play with what the rest of us got.
frogstik @ May 12th 2008 4:10PM
Not only is he using a custom pedal. He's also using different pads that offer some bounce.
Dick @ May 12th 2008 5:20PM
I agree with you satanika - its clear he's using his own trigger pad set connected to some interface device (connected to xbox).
And the RockBand drumset is the only reason I Do NOT own rock band.
But I invested money in a real drumset, not electronic pads, so I lose on being able to re-create this guy's setup.
Awesome job though... One of my fave songs ever.
glenncou @ May 12th 2008 5:37PM
It looks like it's a pedal called the RockPedal, which you can find here:
http://www.rockpedal.com
This, along with the Omega pedal and the Destroyer pedal, can all be purchased by anyone. In addition, you can easily make your own with a standard bass pedal and a simple switch. The instructions are out there all over the place. Try the Rock Band website for starters.
jake18oly @ May 12th 2008 6:22PM
I completely agree with Satanlka. I play the drums in real life and I love Rock Band but I can't stand the drum set that came with the game. With the combination of random notes not registering and trying to calibrate the instruments to my DLP the game can be extremely frustrating at times.
AoE @ May 12th 2008 6:52PM
Am I seeing things? It looks like the regular drum set to me, with a different pedal and some mouse-pads glued (actually they look taped) to the drums... That's not a different drum set, just a modified one.
So satanika, I guess you have that set already, minus the mouse pads ;)
Royale @ May 12th 2008 8:53PM
"Triple word score for you brainiac" = best comeback ever.
I just find it interesting that everytime a post like this comes along the first comment is about discrediting the person's accomplishment.
SmokestormX @ May 12th 2008 10:10PM
Yea he uses a custom kit but only because it kept crapping out on him, their not too reliable. It was mostly out of necessity.
James @ May 13th 2008 3:27PM
Heh, I suspect the amount of practice required to pull off something like this probably would burn through 3 or 4 of the stock kits =-)
Tyler Mayes @ May 14th 2008 2:29PM
Why do you have to put people down? Get a life.
shaolin cochino @ May 12th 2008 4:04PM
What kind of pedal is that and how do i get one?
bsbauman @ May 12th 2008 11:50PM
I want one too! do you have any plans for the mod?
Dick @ May 12th 2008 5:27PM
It's a regular drum pedal. Looks like a tama or pearl (tho I cant say for sure, could be one of a dozen makers).
He's using a trigger pad drum set. rubber pads with a lot of good feel and bounce (replicating drumhead tension, as opposed to the feel of a drum set of cardboard boxes - the feel that the rock band drum set replicates so well)...The pads have electronic sensors so you can plug your own midi pad trigger programs in, and create a drumset that sounds like whatever .wav's or .mid's you can plug in.
jason @ May 12th 2008 4:14PM
that looks like the standard set of drums (aside from the foot pedal) to me, it's on the stand and everything. i think he might just have covers on them for some weird reason.
videos like this show the downfall of youtube/internet video, the framerate is no where near good enough to actually tell how he's hitting them.
taco @ May 12th 2008 4:19PM
Yeah, he is playing a pretty heavily modified drumkit, but that doesn't really take away from his skill. Plus, he's playing on a CRT TV, which means you can play the game with none of the delay compensation that you have to use with most HDTVs.
Superduperm @ May 12th 2008 4:28PM
Oh my freaking god. Who is he, and what band does he play in? Also, a great editing job. You could see him hit the drums and the notes at the same time. Though i found one thing odd- the TV in the shot looked like a tube, which should have the weird lines going on it. It might have been a flat panel and just looked like a tube though.
smallduck @ May 12th 2008 6:03PM
This is nuts. I bet these aren't even drum kit tracks in the first place, but drum samples .. never meant to be played by a human. Are there any hardcore drum&bass tracks in DLC? That would be equally ridiculous.
Dick @ May 12th 2008 5:16PM
This guys pretty good.
Dick @ May 12th 2008 5:17PM
For some reason, my note indicating that I am a drummer/percussionis got left out.
I is drummist.
bigmac375 @ May 12th 2008 5:20PM
great post-processing effects.
amazing drumming
awesome song
cool mod
A+; like much, thanks.
ZenGaijin @ May 12th 2008 5:25PM
Yeah, my friend turned me on to his video because he frequents Scorehero.
This guy has tons of 100% drumming videos.
Metamario @ May 12th 2008 5:36PM
Awesome, both the performance and the custom drum set. xD. Thanks for sharing.
OptimumEDGE @ May 12th 2008 5:59PM
That was incredible. Propz to your skills man.
a weekapaug @ May 12th 2008 5:59PM
I would love to have a "real" kick pedal for my RB kit but am not willing to spend extra time or $$$ to make it happen.
Did get the "A-NI-MAL!" achievement with the piece of crap kick pedal it cam with. Duck tape on the outer pads is key for registering fast notes though.
BowserUSC @ May 12th 2008 6:32PM
Okay, we get it. People are good at playing video games.
InvisiMan @ May 12th 2008 7:16PM
It's not that I don't believe the guy is hitting the notes... it's that I don't believe the set is picking up all those notes!!!
My drum pads miss all kinds of basic notes and although I can get 95% playing expert on most of the songs, I'm convinced that at least 3% are just not registering in there...
chubytuby @ May 12th 2008 11:05PM
*scoffs* I could play that
BerNasty @ May 13th 2008 1:31PM
That was pretty awesome, still not sure whats going on with the kit though. Some say its a completely different kit, some say its just a modified version of the original RB drum kit. I would like to know what hes actually using to play the song.
CL34N3R @ May 14th 2008 3:37AM
I might be wrong but it looks to me like he missed a green note at 2:40. Shenanigans?
Gloqwi @ May 18th 2008 11:35AM
You don't have to hit those notes, they are to activate your "star power". I don't know what they call it in Rock Band.
