GRID vs Gran Turismo 5: Prologue
We're not in the habit of taking shots at the PS3 here, regardless of our name, but this user-made YouTube video was too funny for us not to share.
Posted back on April 25, JudgeRice compiled a comparison video of the upcoming TOCA Race Driver game GRID versus PlayStation's premier racer Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. Before the hate floods in, we know GRID is leaned toward a more arcade-style racing experience whereas Gran Turismo is a simulation. Still, we LAWLED.

@ Kevin
The PS3's flaws: primarily a Blu-ray player, lackluster library of games, nothing extra rewarding for completing the game [Achievement Points], lots of delayed games [Kill Zone 2,LBP, Home...], no XMB [delayed], no cross game invites, no movie service [delayed], dust magnet, Free Online [get what u pay 4].....

Just because Grid is awesome and GT5P sucks doesn't mean you have to take it out on everyone else.
If we wanted to know what sucks about the PS3, we would've told you.
DjDATZ @ May 14th 2008 11:47AM
LOL..SOOO TRUE. Grid is HELLA FUN!

Xav de Matos @ May 13th 2008 8:16PM
Do you read the posts?
eddyk @ May 13th 2008 8:18PM
Gran Turismo is a simulation ... really ? Thought it was just a car showcase ...
qbix @ May 13th 2008 8:20PM
I've been looking forward to GRID since it was announced. I loved PGR3, never got 4 and I enjoyed Forza but GRID seems like the kind of game I've been craving for a while. Drifting has never been done so well and you really get a sense of speed when you are flooring it, not to mention the feel of the car's mass when you crash or hit the pavement in San Francisco's wavy roads... just a satisfying racing experience. Can't wait to buy it.
One think I never liked about racing games, however, is the "catch-up" AI. I'd rather be left in the dust and never be able to catch if it means I can also leave the AI in the dust if I'm good enough and have a fast car. Difficulty settings are there to make games more challenging while catch-up AI is just annoying. Luckily, I saw a setting for this in the GRID demo.
victor360hd @ May 13th 2008 8:22PM
grid better
Dadidito @ May 13th 2008 8:25PM
HAHAHA.. true.
TORO @ May 13th 2008 8:31PM
Good marketing lol...definitely got me interested cause "Racing cars IS cool"
BrokenMonkey @ May 14th 2008 12:05AM
I love the dumb grammar nazis because it's so much fun to correct the arrogant assholes.
When is the last time you heard someone say:
"Cars is cool!"
That's that I thought.
TORO @ May 14th 2008 10:31AM
Hey asshole, I was referring to myself. The verb agrees with the subject, not with the noun in the phrase.
"Racing is cool"
Stupid ass.
AoE @ May 13th 2008 8:33PM
lol, video was hilarious...
I'd love to see a serious Forza 2/GT:Prologue comparison vid. A buddy of mine & I compared them side-by-side in dec (he has a Japanese ps3, so we played prologue the second it was available as import here)... anyhow, Forza 2 looked clearly better to both of us, but that was on a TV that could only output a max of 720p...
It's always nice to see GT get made fun of though; what an over-rated series...
THE FIN3ST @ May 13th 2008 8:36PM
K GT5 is a simulation, and not only that its actual gameplay. If I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure that GRID footage is a trailer. Anyways, you can't really compare, since it's an arcade to a simulator. They both have their ups and downs, just depends what kind of a gamer you are.
Xav de Matos @ May 13th 2008 8:37PM
Some of that GRID footage is from trailers but it looks like it uses the in game replay function in some of the clips.
It's all in good fun anyway.
DjDATZ @ May 14th 2008 11:51AM
NO SENSE OF HUMOUR?! :(
Trekster_Gamer @ May 13th 2008 8:47PM
Man I did not know there was not a damage model in GT5 LMAO Bumper Cars! bwhahahah
I love Forza2 but Grid looks seriously fun. The only other think I wish Forza 2 had was point to point tracks, open road with more scenery like the original Forza.
evilfoxhound @ May 13th 2008 8:48PM
I'm sorry but I have to comment on this. I own Forza 2, GT5 prologue and the GRID demo. And let me tell you, GT5 is way, way more advanced than GRID. Don't get me wrong, GRID is a fun game, but it feels like it was made for younger people ("woo! look at the big crashes and loud music!"). FORZA2 is still probably the best racer out there despite the dreadful graphics.
But trust me, GT5 on my 42" 1080p TV changes the way you judge game graphics forever. Anyone who says that GT5 has poor graphics (Especially compared the the great FORZA2) is either a blind person, has a cheap TV or a xbox fanboy.
Don't let the console you own determin what you see with your eyes.
Ciaran Gallagher @ May 14th 2008 12:09PM
So, what you're saying is that adult games should be boring simulations and children's games should be action-packed and fun?
But if Gran Turismo was a true 'Simulator', then realistic crash damage would have to be a feature as well.
No matter who is playing, these so-called simulators like Gran Turismo and Forza are boring. Forza has fantastic looking cars, but other than that it involves racing around the same, dull tracks over and over again.
That's why I enjoy games like Colin McRae DIRT, GRID and Project Gotham Racing - they have a more balanced mix of realism, simulation and fun.
Jack @ May 13th 2008 8:50PM
lol. Funny but kinda true.
jake18oly @ May 13th 2008 8:50PM
That was really funny! I have always like arcade racers more than simulators anyway. GRID looks like it will be really fun.
Jack @ May 13th 2008 8:52PM
Actually it was comparing the gameplay. Not graphic. I think...
Grimm @ May 13th 2008 8:52PM
I don't understand why everyone is stating that these are different types of racing games. GT5 has no excuse for not having ANY damage modeling. I think it's pathetic when the silly arcade racer has damage modeling and the simulation racer doesn't. Fucking lazy Sony...
kevin @ May 13th 2008 9:04PM
you do know the patch is coming out in october for damage in gt5 p and uhh its prologue gran turismo 5 will have it and over 700 cars i dont see ur fancy grid having more than 40 .. go suck on your red ring of death / loud as fuck vaccum 360
YoRone22 @ May 13th 2008 9:06PM
Kevin, u mad homie?
Grimm @ May 13th 2008 9:10PM
Wow dude that was easily the best grammar and sentence structure I've EVER seen. Wait, maybe I mean the least grammar and sentence structure I've ever seen. Your making all you Sony fagboys look like idiots man. I think he's angry because the only game he gets is MGS4...
kevin @ May 13th 2008 9:18PM
i think i might nto even buy mgs 4 i like gta 4 rockband cod 4 you know mainstream games and uncharted which is awesome umm warhawk! all my sweet psn games my free online play my built in wi fi ! ha my wireless rockband guitar what else ummm bluetooth! woo!
dont get me wrong the 360 when it works its sweet(changed to ps3 cuz elite crapped out on me the second day i had it...WTF)
Nintendo is Fail @ May 13th 2008 9:42PM
Kevin go suck a dick...
Anyways while I think the Gran Turismo series is a little overrated (the last one I owned was GT3 and the physics/AI weren't that great) its still incomparable to GRID, and if the only major reason why people hate on GT5 is because of car damage then thats just sad because they've probably never played it then. I personally haven't played GT5 (yet) because I don't have a PS3 (and even if I did I wouldn't be ripped off for a fucking $50 demo), but again i've played the previous games in the series. I've tried the GRID demo though and the driving in that game is terrible even for an arcade racer. I'd say GRID is all about the graphics, crashes, speed, etc but no gameplay because it feels so unrealistic (the cars feel like they have no weight at all) that it's not even fun. The whole game is just a rehash of the DiRT engine (even the sound effects are the same) except you're driving on pavement instead of rally cars. GRID could've been alot better if they tried making it more like a driving sim
And one more random thing that pisses me off is that no matter how good of a racing game we get for the 360 (like Forza 2), we won't be able to enjoy them with a good wheel, just the crappy MS one.
Anyways thats all I have to say, I think most of the people here are smart enough to tell the differences between arcade and racing sims so it doesn't really matter too much
K1LLER HORNET @ May 14th 2008 6:18AM
@ Kevin
"changed to ps3 cuz elite crapped out on me the second day i had it"
^ biggest lie ever - unless u played with it in an oven or something?
Thomas Newman @ May 13th 2008 9:13PM
I want to know what song that is during the Grid footage.
evilfoxhound @ May 13th 2008 9:15PM
kevin, You make a good point, Prologue is a large demo of a game that is in development. But you didn't need to add the RROD coment. That just made you look like a fanboy. oh, and GRID is also a PS3 game LOL
Anyway, as for the damage in GT5 Prologue. When you play the game it's obvious why it is taking them so long to impliment it. The cars have a rediculous ammount of polygons and detail. No racing game has ever had that ammount of poly's per car, ever. I forget the actual numbers, but it's something like tripple what FORZA2's cars have.
Daniel @ May 13th 2008 9:19PM
Exactly. It takes something like 18 days (don't quote me on this but it's close) for Polyphony to create ONE car. Now to add damage to that would take even longer. Plus, you gotta think all those real life car companies that have their real life cars in the game don't want their cars being represented as banged up, dented pieces of junk. That's why most games that have damage either have ficticious cars (Burnout) or "racing" cars (Grid, Forza 2, etc.).
kevin @ May 13th 2008 9:19PM
awh yeah i know :( sorry but its ture im not buying no 40 dollar demo who does sony think i am for real? id rather buy tears of war pshht :D
Daniel @ May 13th 2008 9:14PM
Well you can't compare the two, GT is a simulator, not meant to be an unrealistic overly fast arcade style game. Also Grid sucked from the demo. I tried it on both 360 and PS3 and I didn't like it either time. It's pretty and the crashing is cool but the turning is trash and the spinning out very easily is horrible. Nonetheless the guys makes a valid point about the damage. However, GT5P is just a demo basically and the final GT5 will have damage (in fact they are going to be updating Prologue with a patch in the fall to add damage). Gran Turismo is the best racing simulator series ever created and anyone who thinks differently doesn't know what they are talking about. As far as it being the best racing game, now that's debatable.
Xav de Matos @ May 13th 2008 9:21PM
While GT5 looks better than Forza, don't discount is as a "racing" game saying it isn't a true simulation title.
Forza is a fantastic simulation racer.
Daniel @ May 13th 2008 9:24PM
I own Forza and while it's a good game, I prefer GT. I guess because I've been a fan of GT since way before I played Forza but at the same time I just don't see all the fuss over Forza. It's a good game but if you want to talk over rated, Forza seems way more over rated to me than GT. GT has awesome graphics AND is a better simulator IMO (and a lot of people agree with me obviously). Don't get me wrong, Forza 2 is fun but I just prefer GT over it.
