Zero Punctuation visits Liberty City
Yahtzee's latest Zero Punctuation review this week is none other than everyone's favorite crime simulator, Grand Theft Auto IV. While he (of course) does his best to pick the game's fault apart one by one, Yahtzee still comes across as actually liking the game. Fans of ZP will know that this is high praise indeed (though we imagine it will still spark nasty, hate-filled emails from GTA fanboys). As for the negatives, the review makes note of wonky driving, escort missions, and the constant need to entertain Niko's friends. Beyond such criticisms though, the review deigns to call Grand Theft Auto IV "really good." Find the review embedded after the break.

this guy is so bloody negative. haha. british people. *sigh*
saveusjeebus @ May 14th 2008 9:34PM
Another great one as always. He's definitely right about maintaining the friendships or whatever it is. If i was any good at keeping up excessive social relationships, id have no time for video games anyways. Love the end credits for "The Serbian National Anthem" by "I don't bloody know"
avantgardener @ May 14th 2008 9:35PM
he's Australian and he's hi-larious. :)
SadisticHam @ May 14th 2008 9:49PM
He actually is British, he moved out to Australia. Wasn't his best one but it made good points..especially those bloody trees.
andyface @ May 15th 2008 4:23AM
Look we're not overly negative, we're just sensible and believe that being overly positive about things can lead to George W. Bush being in power.
However the resent appointment of Boris Johnson as London Major makes me wonder if we haven't all gone a little crazy bonkers over here.

You can tell when a reviewer is about the games or about themselves. That zero punc guy is an attention *4ore. "Wonky driving". People who haven't played GTA4 listen up, whenever someone says GTA4's driving isn't good hasn't played the game very long at all. Like probably only a couple hours. At first I may have shared that same opinion. Now after trusting R*(because they've done this a few times before) and absorbing a boatload of GTA4'ness in my brain(24+ total hrs) it's perfect. Sick, if you will. Once you get the hang of it it's fun as heck driving around LC. E-brake and all. It's REAL fun. Realistic fun. This of course is IMHO.
FU5I0Nco.uk @ May 14th 2008 9:35PM
Lmao funny as fook ilove the game but everything he says is so true but i love it
Sammy D Kat @ May 14th 2008 9:37PM
Finally, someone who calls it likes he sees it w/out all of the fawning best.game.ever. BS. Face it - there is such a thing as too much realism. It's boring & tedious. I can already drive a crappy car and get some jackass swearing & honking at me. And the traffic is just as bad as NYC at 5pm on a Friday. Do I really need it in a game? The camera is wonky. The combat system is weak. Do I really need a bowling mini-game? Or darts? Seriously? I want carnage, dammit! I want big explosions, big guns, and big vehicles. Very overrated.
I love Yatzee - the man, not the game.
Andrew @ May 14th 2008 9:44PM
What's wrong with the Yahtzee the game?
Andrew @ May 14th 2008 9:44PM
*sigh* I really need to look at what I wrote before I hit submit...
Troy @ May 14th 2008 10:22PM
did you miss the part where he says "this is a really good game"? his reviews are general sarcastic and negative, regardless of the game. so him saying "this is a really good game" is like a 8-10 from him....
anyway, video was funny....damn trees lol
haukke @ May 14th 2008 11:14PM
agreed....i am already bored to tears....and sold it back.to me a waste of money.
erivera3 @ May 15th 2008 1:46AM
Agreed, the game is wayyyyyyyy overrated, I don't know if they paid off all those websites to give a perfect 10 score, but this game is definitely FAR from perfect and FAR from the most fun game out there. It is a fun game, but nowhere near the perfect 10 rating it has been receiving and just gets too tedious. Not as big of a leap forward from the last GTA's as I was lead to believe.
ryan @ May 15th 2008 2:21AM
they gave it a 10 because of a single player that improves on the other GTAs and a multiplayer that is actually very fun and engaging. so much work went into this game. it deserves a 10.
drew @ May 14th 2008 9:43PM
yea i've watched a couple of his other reviews and i like his comedy style about it but i also like his seriousness about the reviews. they make sense most of the time.
j4r3d @ May 14th 2008 9:46PM
Not as funny as most of his reviews but still good. Love this guy.
drew @ May 14th 2008 10:05PM
yea..sadistic knows the deal. i read it on the videos page. under each video you watch it has the same description of him saying that he was british born and moved to australia or writes for an australian company or some crap. i liked the mass effect review more than this after watching all his reviews. mass effect was good and army of two was pretty good too.
DBoyFlex @ May 14th 2008 10:49PM
Ah, good stuff. The friends crap is kinda annoying. After every mission I keep losing points with somebody. I was able to buy guns from Jacob, but then I quit hanging out with him to get something else and now I can't buy guns from him anymore. What kinda crap is that? They should leave the likeness the same. Let it go up as you hang, and don't let it go down. It kinda feels like Saints Row, always having to do crappy stupid side things just to progress a little bit in the story. Lame. The trees suck too. Some should snap off. That could be patched, right? Can the friend thing be patched too? Is that possible? Time will tell...
agelgamer @ May 14th 2008 10:50PM
systematically alienating every fanboy... brilliant. +1 for not ever reviewing mario kart wii!
you know.. i would love to hear his review of wii fit. LMAO
anthonyjh @ May 15th 2008 12:24AM
Not one of his best, but still hilarious.
Davis @ May 15th 2008 1:17AM
I swear I saw him when I was on a mission the other day.
Mr. Scolex @ May 15th 2008 2:48AM
The best part was when he said not to get the ps3 version.

Yahtzee rocks, and he has delivered yet another excellent review.
Funny as always..and also right on the money!
James @ May 15th 2008 12:43PM
I loved the game. Played through once the first 2 weeks I had it and aside from working full-time, still managed to put in over 60 hours. Then I played through the whole thing in less than 15 hours to get the minute achievement, and seriously, this game doesn't get old, there's still tons I could do! Not to mention multiplayer :)
Yahtzee's hillarious by the way, this was just as funny, GTA IV Certified Fanboy that I am!
CJJB @ May 15th 2008 3:19PM
GTA Dubiln. Please make it happen Rockstar please!
I still haven't bought my copy of GTA IV yet because I have exams but from the taster I got at a friends house it was fecking great!
Conor @ May 15th 2008 3:25PM
Another great video,
Good old Australians!
Still haven't bought this game....
superrrguy @ May 18th 2008 10:18AM
This guy obviously has never even been to New York City. All the street lamps fall over if you lean on them and the trees are on steroids. I'm embarresed to say, I actually live on Brighton Beach, the real Hove Beach (not kidding). Nathans (Johnsons) is a few blocks away. I can see the Cyclone (Screamer) from my window. You really only have to drive a few blocks before the cops give up around here. Even though I've come to hate this game, it's still much better than actually going outside.
Also, isn't there a write mama a letter mission? I'm quite sure I've been emailing someone back and forth.
Grand Theft Normal Boring Life! That was brilliant!
webster1990 @ Jun 1st 2008 6:11AM
only just realised i got thanked for this story by googling my gamertag to see what came up. lol
