Shane Kim talks motion control rumors and more
At Microsoft's Spring Showcase, Eurogamer got some face time with Microsoft Game Studios VP (and PR jedi) Shane Kim. As one might expect, they took the opportunity to ask Kim about Microsoft's upcoming lineup, Sony's claimed victory in Europe, and, of course, Grand Theft Auto IV. Regarding the lineup, Kim said that 2008 will be "another landmark year" for Microsoft thanks to a range of exclusive titles like Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, and others. Perhaps the most interesting part of the interview, Kim spoke to the rumors about Microsoft's secret motion controller development. When asked directly about the rumors, Kim gave the typical no comment response, but also noted, "I do think that would be a mistake, if we just tried to come out and copy what Nintendo has done. What Nintendo has done has worked well for them, but we have to think about what our innovation aspect is going to be." Let's focus on the word "just" and the phrase "is going to be" for a moment. "Just" implies that Microsoft plans to do more than Nintendo has done with control methods, while "is going to be" implies that Microsoft is definitely up to something. Just what that is remains a mystery. Is it Lips, Newton, or something else?

xbox 360 owns 2008
evilfoxhound @ May 15th 2008 12:46PM
In america. Not anywhere else :P
ZEBRA NINER @ May 15th 2008 12:48PM
Right... in America... like anywhere else even matters!!!! ;)
Creep @ May 15th 2008 12:56PM
It owns my living room, and that's all i care about.
dunnypop @ May 15th 2008 1:17PM
the 360 is the only system that I play.
my ps3 is used for movies.
my wii has been disconnected for the last 3 months... the wii really dropped the ball with having some shitty graphics.
marauder800 @ May 15th 2008 1:36PM
No, no, no. 2008 is Sony's year, just ask them. Meanwhile the only game worth owning is Motorstorm from 2006.
Trekster_Gamer @ May 15th 2008 3:34PM
Just like it owned 2006 and 2007 ;)
I found a good purpose albeit a very expensive one for the other two consoles. You buy a PS3 and a Wii stand them on there sides and put a board across them, this will make a great stand to hold my 360!
Grimm @ May 15th 2008 4:08PM
Winning in America is all that really matters. We spend vast amounts of money every year on video games. Far more then any other country...
Dom @ May 15th 2008 12:55PM
@ evilfoxhound
360 unleashes PWNAGE upon WiiS3, this Holiday! Not only in US, but Europe, Australia, Mexico, etc...Japan who? Pfft!
PWNAAAAAAGE!!! And you can take that to the bank!
Vcize @ May 15th 2008 4:09PM
That was @evilfoxhound btw.
evilfoxhound @ May 15th 2008 12:56PM
ZEBRA NINER, AMERICA FUCK YEAH!!!
LOL, and you guys wonder why the rest of the world despises you.
Anyway, back on topic. I'm finding it hard to get excited about ANY 360 games this year. I didn't like the first Gears and I don't like Ninja Gaiden games. Where the hell is Forza 3 damn it!?
Deezul @ May 15th 2008 1:55PM
Wee, another driving simulator. Now with seatbelts!
Kizzle @ May 15th 2008 1:56PM
I'm glad they're looking at it from a "how could we do it even better" perspective. I personally really dislike the Wiimote and almost every game on the Wii that forces you to use it. If MS can somehow do it better - and I have my doubts they can, admittedly - then go for it.
ZEBRA NINER @ May 15th 2008 2:20PM
I don't wonder why the rest of the world despises us. I already know. It's because everyone is jealous of our porn, guns, and rock and roll!
Vcize @ May 15th 2008 4:08PM
Do you honestly care how your console of choice does in regions outside of yours?
Yay, the 360 is doing great in America so now you get fuxxored on XBL releases, game releases, demos, etc. Yippee!
Wouldn't you rather it not be doing so well in America compared to over there so you could actually be treated semi-competently by MS in terms of content delays?
Knight Marquise @ May 15th 2008 7:05PM
"LOL, and you guys wonder why the rest of the world despises you."
You know, I try to keep my responses measured, but I'm about sick and tired of the America bashing.
How about you STFU and go back to whatever hole you call home. We don't need to care what others think about us and perhaps that's your problem.
Tony @ May 15th 2008 1:37PM
I couldn't care less who "wins" as long as the 360 continues to do well enough for third parties to believe it's relevant enough to get a decent amount of games... and that certainly seems to be the case. So I'm happy.
SadisticHam @ May 15th 2008 1:04PM
Yup..still a 360 year in my book, quickly shaping up to be as good as 07 but i guess it's mostly cause it has a lot of sequels from the original xbox coming.
adam @ May 15th 2008 1:57PM
What people need to realize is that mgs4 and gt5 "a game with no crash features" are not going to save the ps3.Killzone 2 looks good and that where the line draws. The fact that kz2 is a fps is another killer because the ps3 controller is terrible for fps.
gow2 fable2 banjo too human. All these titles in 08 are going to crush anything the ps3 thinks it has going.
Best graphics 08 gow2 easy mgs4 from the gameplay vids looks like cod4 lmao.
adam @ May 15th 2008 1:58PM
and look i failed to mention ng2
Christine @ May 15th 2008 2:02PM
HEY MICRO$OFT!
FIX YOUR FUCKING HARDWARE! AND THEN YOU CAN TALK SOME SHIT M$!
I have two friends who purchased the Xbox 360. (Including myself) They both had to replace their Xbox 360's four times!!!
We all the got the RROD four times in row. That's fucked up man! (I've never had that problem with other consoles) Everytime we sent it in, we had to send it back!!! WTF!
Come on, everyone keeps saying how great the Xbox 360 is and how great the games are. But people don't wanna say how shitty the hardware is. I'm done with MS and so are my friends.
Fix the hardware M$ and maybe I'll buy another one.
Tony @ May 15th 2008 2:06PM
I think it's been said to death here and everywhere else. Almost all of us have been affected by it and every post about it here gets a ridiculous amount of comments. I'm not sure where you're going, but it's certainly not here, the Xbox forums or any decent site I'm aware of.
Dom @ May 15th 2008 2:06PM
Haha, suuuuuuuure we believe you.
/sarcasmz
So 3 people each got RROD 4 times. Exactly like that? Damn you could have at least lied a little better and said once or twice but nooooooo, fuck yourself over and say 4 times. What a fucking douche!
Premo @ May 15th 2008 2:35PM
I wouldn't be so hasty to point the finger, Dom.
I personally know two friends who each have had to send it in. One once, the other twice.
My brother in law has disc read issues, and I originally had a faulty rrod unit way back at launch, and the one i replaced that one with cut out about three months back. This isn't even mentioning the number of headsets i've been forced to replace.
The fault of microsoft hardware should come to no surprise really.
Trekster_Gamer @ May 15th 2008 3:39PM
You are a moron, and most likely yet another SonyFanboy TROLL that tries to bring down the topic...
Go away
Vcize @ May 15th 2008 4:12PM
"No one wants to talk about how shitty the hardware is."
Huh? Everyone wants to talk about that. RROD is mentioned more times on this website in comments every day than any other term.
But really, the fact that they're moving so many systems and games even with one of the biggest hardware screwups in consumer electronics history is a testament to how insanely good the games and XBL are right now, as people are willing to put up with the hardware issues to have access to that stuff.
Grimm @ May 15th 2008 4:12PM
Yeah I've had one system RROD...but I bought it used at Gamestop. The system I bought at launch never RROD and I kept it for 2 years. I would really like to see the entertainment center setups of these people that claim they've gotten multiple RRODs.
Vcize @ May 15th 2008 4:15PM
I'm not really interested in a motion sensing device, but if they could do it right then I may be.
That means get rid of the freaking lag so that the damn thing can be used as more than just a button simulator like it is on the Wii. I swear when I bought that thing (on launch day) I was dreaming about how amazing baseball sims and tennis sims were going to be actually swinging the bat/racket. Instead we wiggle the crap in our hand to do the same thing that simply pressing "A" would have done on a normal controller. Yippee.
Give us a lag free sensor and games that actually support the thing properly and I'll buy in.
Rio @ May 15th 2008 5:40PM
Here's a link to a video interview with Kim..

6Rey9 @ May 15th 2008 11:30PM
i got rrd four times on one console(my first one) , maybe thats what she/he ment.(Christine)
I agree with your comment, the 360 does have a high failier rate.
BUT i rather buy a console which will work temporarly then a ps3 any day.
Three REASONS -GEARS OF WAR 2, MASS EFFECT 2, RESIDENT EVIL 5, sorry but gta 4 is basicly san andreas just with better graphics and cover system but i bought anyway cause san andreas is awesome!
Haohmaru @ May 16th 2008 6:03PM
Some of you are too quick to bash other consoles. Video game partisanship is such a laughable concept. :P There are great games to play on each system, which is why I have all of them. Grow up a little!
