Rick Nash covering NHL 2K9

Two key announcements have been made for fans of 2K Sports' NHL franchise. First, and more importantly of course, Rick Nash has been tapped as the cover athlete of NHL 2K9. This coming from a memorable season for the Columbus Blue Jackets where they, you know didn't make the playoffs. But that's besides the point!
The second, and way less important, is developer Visual Concepts is "taking over" the development reigns of the game instead of working with Kush Games and promises to rebuild the game from the ground up. Surprising changes would be made due to the fact that 2K8 was one of the second best hockey game available according to Metacritic.
Some things you may want to consider about this post. One, Rick Nash? Really? Two, building the title from the ground up? Thank goodness. Three, there were only two hockey games last year.
Oh, sorry to any Nash or Blue Jackets fans. I'm a Leafs fan, so what do I know?

*sigh*
X3F should really institute a "this was already on Joystiq yesterday" policy when it comes to posting.
Xav de Matos @ May 16th 2008 4:23PM
*sigh*
They actually posted it early this morning.
jaybird1905 @ May 16th 2008 4:34PM
8 hours ago...Close enough to yesterday for me.
Why do you guys re-post 50% of the stuff on Joystiq? I love both sites, it would just be great to not see the same thing on both sites.
Aren't there any other places you guys get your info?
Xav de Matos @ May 16th 2008 4:38PM
While that's great for you. We have a lot of other readers.
We post on industry news and since it wasn't important enough to warrant us move around our stories it was released now.
We can't ignore stories if Joystiq posts them.
jaybird1905 @ May 16th 2008 4:40PM
You guys report almost all the same stories, verbatim.
You can't put 2+2 together that most of Joystiq reads visit their respective fanboy pages?
And it was early this morning ... 2am ... 14+ hours old.
X3F Formula, if it's not on the front page of Joystiq anymore, it's fair game.
jaybird1905 @ May 16th 2008 4:41PM
And no one's asking you to "ignore" stories that Joystiq reported. Why re-post a re-worded description and re-post the same picture?
You do realize most of the word "news" is the NEW part, right?
Xav de Matos @ May 16th 2008 4:53PM
While I appreciate the criticism of us not giving everyone the timely NHL 2K9 news, I would ask that you look up the word verbatim prior to calling us out.
Richard Mitchell @ May 16th 2008 4:54PM
Xav is right here. It's actually our responsibility to report on things that Joystiq hits, the same way that they hit things we've already reported.
It happens all over shared networks like Weblogs Inc. Hell, Engadget and Engadget Mobile literally repost the same things verbatim.
Luckily, a few clicks on the scroll bar will bypass said stories and solve the problem.
jaybird1905 @ May 16th 2008 4:55PM
Holy X3F Backup Batman!
lmao.
I'm just saying it really makes no sense, you guys don't even bother changing the picture so I'm fooled into thinking it's a new story :(
jaybird1905 @ May 16th 2008 4:56PM
And Xav, I'm fully aware of the definition of verbatim.
"As a linguistic term, the Latin word "verbatim" means an exact reproduction of a sentence"
Your turn to google a word, try "sarcasm"
Xav de Matos @ May 16th 2008 5:02PM
Enjoy the site we appreciate the feedback.
David W. @ May 16th 2008 5:27PM
Jay, I don't read Joystiq...if it really bothers you that much stop reading one of the two sites...people like me wouldn't get the news if engadget did post the story
jaybird1905 @ May 16th 2008 5:33PM
Too bad for you then?
A little silly to re-post a majority of the stories. Especially with the same photo, that's my major gripe.
commander32 @ May 16th 2008 4:13PM
atleast be happy nash is going to help us beat sweden in about 40 minutes. oh, and he scored one of the prettiest goals this year. http://youtube.com/watch?v=kBQArUjP89w
Captain Obvious @ May 16th 2008 4:33PM
Go Leafs!
Russ Tundra @ May 17th 2008 10:05AM
Is it me or is Jaybird urging Xav to give him a Cock-Meat Sandwhich???? Jay shut the Hell up you XF3 Gangsta... you arguing about the posts on XF3 making your RJ-45 connector feeling any bigger??
brh51280 @ May 16th 2008 5:06PM
LOL @ the Leafs
Can't put one of them on the cover
One more animal for the zoo!!
jaybird1905 @ May 16th 2008 4:59PM
*sigh*
I love this site guys, just wish I hadn't real all the stories elsewhere prior to arriving.
Dr. Coolbot @ May 16th 2008 5:05PM
I'm surprised and amazed that 13 comments in there are still no anti-Leafs comments!
Go Leafs!
Also, Nash is tearing it up currently in the IIHF world championships. It is perhaps a strange choice, perhaps if Malkin didn't have a face like Frankenstein's monster he would have made it..
David W. @ May 16th 2008 5:29PM
Nash...really?
I think Brendon Morrow deserves cover...even non-stars fans have to admit he has had an amazing season. He IS up for MVP and all :)
Dan @ May 16th 2008 6:38PM
Morrow is up for MVP of what exactly?
Rick Nash is one of the best players playing on a terrible team. He scored the 2 prettiest goals of the entire season. Good for him.
Also, I don't subscribe to joystiq because I only care about the 360 so I'm all for the 'repeats'.
Andro @ May 17th 2008 7:39AM
Xav, Thanks for the NHL2K9 update. The NHL is the least covered of all the sports games. Gotta agree with the Nash comment. Seems like a bigger market player like a Henrik Lundqvist or Evgeni Malkin would be the wiser choice here. Clearly Sid Crosby & Ovechkin will be in the EA camp.
