Wait, did Cliffy confirm GoW2 four player co-op? [update 2]

Update: It has come to our attention that Cliffy may have actually said "multiple difficulty settings FOR co-op players", meaning different difficulty levels for all co-op players and not confirmation of four player co-op. Though, there is a noticeable vocal pause between "settings" and "four" or "for". Meh, make your own judgment and be just as confused as everyone else.
Gears of War 2 multiplayer details were noticeably lacking at this year's Spring Showcase, as Microsoft sticks to their well thought out marketing plan by feeding eager fanboys nuggets of GoW2 info piece by piece . But sometimes information leaks prematurely from loose lips, loose Cliffy B lips that make us believe that we can count on four player Gears of War 2 co-op come November.
Why do we speculate four player Gears 2 co-op? Well, because we think Cliffy B actually let slip the secret in a recent interview with Gamespot. You'll have to click towards the jump to watch the video interview (stupid Gamespot embedding works like crud), fast forward to about 4:12 and listen carefully to what Cliffy says. From what we can tell, it sounds like Cliffy says "the co-op is drop in, drop out, multiple difficulty settings, four co-op players, uhh, much more multiplayer modes." Four co-op players? Hmm, he either confirmed GoW2's four player co-op secret or said something about "more co-op players". Either way, we're interested in hearing what's the real word.

Seems like it to me! I'm overly excited now!
Zac LaCombe @ May 16th 2008 2:23AM
For once, I just want a blockbuster game to not come out! The GTAIV mass hysteria hasn't even died down yet!
Arnon @ May 16th 2008 2:23AM
I swear... I have never seen a game produce better and better news one after another. First, it was gameplay footage, next, it was Individual execution, next it was a Halo 3-based party mode, now it's 4 player co-op?!
Jeez, Maybe they can just add a candy dispenser that attaches to the 360...
UNSCleric @ May 16th 2008 2:29AM
I thought 4-player co-op was confirmed a couple weeks ago. Either way, it's going to be in.
R @ May 16th 2008 2:31AM
Maybe he meant "multiple difficulty settings FOR co-op players"
Anticrawl @ May 16th 2008 2:40AM
Sadly this is what he meant because in an earlier video he was speaking about how difficulty will throttle for less advanced friends when playing through co-op mode.
Anticrawl @ May 16th 2008 2:41AM
Will probably work more like a handicap though, I think you actually pick the difficulty before the act like Guitar Hero does.
Arnon @ May 16th 2008 2:44AM
4-player Co-Op would've made any difficulty to easy anyway...
But the fact that each player can have his/her own difficulty setting is still genius.
Anticrawl @ May 16th 2008 2:49AM
@Arnon
Yeah, GOW was laughable easy in campaign co-op (sept the damn car level), even on insane. Halo 3 with 4-player co-op and the mystic skull on legendary was still overly easy.
DjDATZ @ May 16th 2008 8:50AM
I was even said before that each player would have their own difficulty settings...that way one player could play on insane while the other could play on 'n00b'.
No, he did not confirm 4 player co-op.
Anticrawl @ May 16th 2008 3:22PM
Yeah Dj, that's pretty much what I said in my reply. I can't believe people didn't remember that interview about the difficulty levels for each player in co-op.
Anticrawl @ May 16th 2008 2:47AM
While he didn't confirm 4-player co-op (SEE: Above post) I sure hope this game will be the game to finally break me of my Shadowrun lust. No matter how many new games I buy, I eventually get tired and bored of them then go back to Shadowrun, along with the majority of my friends list.
Vcize @ May 16th 2008 10:45AM
Thumbs up for Shadowrun.
While Gears 1 is to me what Shadowrun is to you, I enjoy jumping back into Shadowrun about once a week with some friends and having a good time. Shame that the game sold so poorly. People claim they want innovation and not just the same tired thing, but they don't, and sales prove it.
As great of a game as CoD4 is (and I DO love it), it's a 10 year old game (Counterstrike) that's been redone dozens of times already.
JSBeckerist @ May 16th 2008 2:10PM
Really? I used to play shadowrun all the time but now I have no one left to play! In fact, I might not even have the game anymore, but I would gladly pick it up if there is really still an active community (used 15 bucks now!)
This is an open invitation to anyone, I play Halo 3, GTA, COD4, Rock Band and Crackdown mostly, but I have just about every game (except Gears 1 because some turd stole it from me! I'll wait until 2 now...)
XBL: beckerist
BTW, my box is currently headed to TX (as we speak!) so it might be a bit before I accept you.
Anticrawl @ May 16th 2008 3:21PM
Shadowrun for the 360 has a very active community and a cult-like following. You might as well call me the man-in-white.
Grimm @ May 16th 2008 3:04AM
Amen Anticrawl that damn train car level is fuckin annoying. Still beat that shit on insane before anyone else on my list did though haha.
Boff @ May 16th 2008 4:33AM
I'll assume he said 'for' :o(
Don't want to get my hopes up, only to be disappointed at a later date.
sammy davis jr jr @ May 16th 2008 7:57AM
it was in UT3, I would be surprised if it were absent in Gears 2. Even if it is 'too easy', the more the merrier.
Dom @ May 16th 2008 8:32AM
He said FOUR player co-op, not FOR! CONFIRMED!
"I'll take those, shhhhhhiiiiiiittttt yeahhhhh!!! Sup Bitches?!!!"
Arnon @ May 16th 2008 9:18AM
That would be pretty cool if he shocked us with both of thses features.
Jayslacks @ May 16th 2008 9:40AM
Hey, Cliffy. How about fixing the host advantage! How about that!
ScrewTheJapanese @ May 16th 2008 12:01PM
Fix the host advantage? You would never think it was a problem the way X3F reports.
Jayslacks @ May 16th 2008 12:04PM
Well, no one complains about something that works for them. I refuse to host games because it is bullshit. That is why Halo 3 and COD4 is so good. Are there host issues in those games? Yes. Do they hide it? Hell yes! Gears doesn't even pretend. It just gets annoying to be sniped by a shotgun...
Chris @ May 16th 2008 9:47AM
i really wish they would do it, 4 player coop even if only over XBL... or perhaps 2 local, 4 xbl ... or 2local+2xbl that would be sick!!!!!
but i doubt it... though ill pray
The True Gamer @ May 16th 2008 10:07AM
It would be game design suicide not to include 4 player co op after Halo 3.
adam @ May 16th 2008 10:19AM
2008 year of the 360
DjDATZ @ May 16th 2008 10:31AM
Just to keep your hopes up Dustin, I HIGHLY doubt GoW 2 will NOT have 4 player co-op. If Halo 3 could do it, GoW 2 NEEDS to do it.
NukeAssault @ May 16th 2008 12:14PM
It better!
NukeAssault @ May 16th 2008 12:13PM
What? No four player? That was the only thing driving me to buy it. Now its a rent for sure. =(
Cutty @ May 17th 2008 1:55PM
They didn't say there isn't going to be four player co-op, it just hasn't been confirmed yet........
I'm fairly sure they will have it, because it is almost required after halo did it.......it'll happen
Arnon @ May 16th 2008 5:51PM
I think 4-player co-op would be sick, but you have to remember what this would effect.
1. Gameplay difficulty
2. Splitting up
3. Achievements
and there's probably more but I'm too lazy to think of any more at the moment.
Procris @ May 19th 2008 12:31PM
All i can say is, it better have 4 player co-op.
