Fake EGM GoW2 details mention stamina bar and new multiplayer modes [update]
Update: Rumor official debunked. Cliff Bleszinski popped up on the NeoGAF forums to discredit these supposed EGM GoW2 details saying that whoever published this news is "making shit up". Thanks for the clarification Cliffy. We've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of EGM's special July issue featuring Gears of War 2 awesomeness that's set to hit newsstands on June 3rd. But, if the rumors are true, we won't have to wait until June to get the new feature reveals, because a helpful EGM subscriber claims to have already received his July issue and has spilled all the exclusive Gears 2 deets.
Over on the GameSpot forums, member Prosecut0rGodot claims to have already received a copy of EGM's July issue and posted a recap of all the new Gears 2 details that were revealed. If true, EGM is said to reveal new GoW2 features including co-op specific cut-scenes and decisions that'll affect the game's ending, a brand new stamina bar has been added and will dictate a player's performance, a never before seen "Acheron" Locust creature will make an appearance and two new multiplayer modes were announced including the chainsaws only "En-Garde" mode. A few other goodies were supposedly revealed, so make your way towards the break to read the entire list of the rumored GoW2 info.
Campaign Details
- Co-op will allow each player to play at different difficulty levels.
- If the campaign is played in co-op, players will be treated to special cut scenes and decisions that'll ultimately lead to one of numerous endings.
- The campaign should take, on average, about 15 hours to complete.
- A new boss named "Acheron" is reveled and is described as a gargantuan mammoth that the Locusts use to take out vehicles.
Multiplayer and Gameplay Details
- A new stamina bar is introduced and will determine how far you can run and how long you can fight. In other words, if your stamina bar is low, your overall performance will be lowered as well.
- An "En-Garde" multiplayer mode is revealed and will feature nothing but chainsaw combat.
- Another multiplayer mode called "Ordeal" will be included where teams battle to be the first to score 100 enemy kills. Though, it isn't made clear if the kill count will be made up of opponent or AI kills.

The stamina bar doesn't sound appealing to me.
Digital Limit @ May 23rd 2008 2:29AM
Stamina has always been a waste of space in every game. It only slows down combat and frustrates players. But whatever, Ordeal sounds like it should kick ass and interesting (if it is what I think it is), so I guess there's some compensation.
And 15 hours is a nice bump from 10.
Anticrawl @ May 23rd 2008 2:36AM
The multiple difficulty levels has been known since before the gameplay trailer was revealed.
I don't like the idea of a stamina bar, but the rest sounds interesting enough.
Anticrawl @ May 23rd 2008 2:37AM
One thing that's generally good with Epic games, I doubt the stamina bar would be permanent. Meaning it would be an option available to turn off by the host.

stamina bar really sounds like were going last gen again with a health bar system.... sounds of really sux
Davis @ May 23rd 2008 2:40AM
I miss bars. They made things more realistic at a time when health packs were popular.

As far as I know it is fake, Andrew Pfister of 1UP said over at NeoGAF that a lot of that info sounded out of place and that he had to check his issue of EGM. Until more people get their copies it is definitley unconfirmed.

"how long i can fight"
Gotta be kidding me? That'll crap things up if true. I can't see a chainsaw only gametype either, that'd be stupid even with the duels.
I call fake on this.

15 hours? I think since GTA has now set the bar all games should be required to have at least 25 very good hours ha... I'm 28 hours in on GTA and only 40% there, love the game.
Matt @ May 23rd 2008 8:53AM
Too bad the multiplayer sucks.
Shmil @ May 23rd 2008 9:01AM
Oh please let Ordeal involve fighting AI. I've been wait for a decent Console shooter with AI multiplayer
DjDATZ @ May 23rd 2008 9:24AM
+1
UT3 should have it...
Josh @ May 23rd 2008 9:05AM
the gameplay demo didnt have a stamina bar, and thats a huge gameplay element to take out and spring on us later. im also calling this a fake
DjDATZ @ May 23rd 2008 9:19AM
I would have to agree here. It would be fail if they decided to tack it on later...
Maybe the stamina bar is only for MP...
Dick @ May 23rd 2008 10:00AM
Yeah, this is poop on a page to me.
Seems like another one of those internets rumor things.
MDJ2010 @ May 23rd 2008 9:28AM
I think a stamina bar wil add depth to multiplayer. It'll give you something to think about. Not only if your own stamina is high enough to get involved in a battle but also you can estimate the stamina of an opponent and then pick them off when weak. Hopefully its an option for multiplayer, I see why people would be unexcited by this but it could turn out to be a great addition.
Vcize @ May 23rd 2008 9:40AM
Gears already has 10x more to think about than a normal multiplayer game. Between body control, cover, and non-automatic reloads there's plenty to be thinking about.
Vcize @ May 23rd 2008 9:39AM
Stamina bar sounds weeeaaaaakkkk. Hopefully it's not true, or hopefully if it is they'll hear the outcry and take it out.
ed @ May 23rd 2008 10:03AM
Oh no how can egm show the meat shield on the cover! think of the children!
emirabal @ May 23rd 2008 10:15AM
LOL, the children, Jack Thompson would be so proud of you
baby sea tuna @ May 23rd 2008 10:04AM
Stamina bar? Really? Note to developers, we need LESS HUD elements crudding up our screens, not more of them!
emirabal @ May 23rd 2008 10:16AM
I hear that, less is always better, simpler is the way to go, not complicated, to many equations to be working on all at once.
Dom @ May 23rd 2008 10:32AM
Meat shield...it just sounds awesome! I'll wait for my EGM issue to see if this is real but for now I'm calling shenanigans, although a chainsaw only match sounds pretty fun.
