Rumor: Street Fighter IV uppercuts Xbox 360, PC for winter release

Rumor has it that Capcom accidentally revealed the release schedule and platforms for the upcoming, official, fourth installment of Street Fighter. According to a story on French gaming site Jeuxvideo, Capcom inadvertently let the information slip on a press site that scheduled the 2/3D fighter hybrid for a winter release on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
While the general consensus is that Street Fighter IV would make its way to next-gen platforms, a PC release is a surprise. While we could speculate that the rumor has weight due to Capcom's recent admiration for the PC platform (with Devil May Cry 4 and Lost Planet releases), the well-known similarities in development for Xbox 360 and PC titles and USB being the primary input on all next-gen controllers, we're going to remind everything this one is just a rumor for now.
On a side note, with the popularity of the Cybercafé in the Eastern market a PC release would make sense. Just saying!

Aside from one being fully 2D, What's the difference? :P
Evolution of fighting games FTW! KOF XII, BattleFantasia, BlazBlu and even Guilty Gear 2 can't come soon enough!

What's the difference? $50 plus tax, for starters.

Can't speak for everyone... But it goes without saying that the modern fighting game revival and ever growing western niche market can be partially attributed to emulation. Especially the rapid growth of NeoGeo and CPS2 emulation in the early 2000s through the release of Samurai Shodown V Special (last officialy NeoGeo release) in 2004.
Of course it was all done via PC, especially Windows PCs. I know I partook my fair share back when I had a working Windows Box. Actually took a while to transition out of using a keyboard and back onto candy / competition arcade sticks, heh.

i'd say stick with the PS3 version. better d-pad, don't listen to the "purists" who say to buy an arcade stick.
i only have a 360 right now, but i plan to buy all my fighting games for the PS3.
Vcize @ May 25th 2008 2:06PM
Ditto. Fighting games are the only mulit-plat games I buy on the ps3.

Personally, if I didn't own the HORI Arcade stick from Japan for my Xbox 360 I'd grab this on PS3 too.
I love Street Fighter and at least 70% of all games ever made with the name on it, but I suck and don't play online. So LIVE wouldn't matter. It's all about the controls and the Xbox 360 d-pad is terrible.
With the HORI stick I'm back to playing on the Xbox 360 and my Dreamcast.

Junk! Street Fighter IV equals junk!
KOF XII *Bows down*

You can buy a PS2 arcade stick and a USB adapter and play every PS1, PS2, and PS3 fighter on that console. My stick is also compatible with the GameCube, so I can use mine for GC and Wii fighters (few as they may be outside of the Virtual Console).
Xav de Matos @ May 25th 2008 2:52PM
I wish there was an Xbox to XBox 360 contoller adapter. I still have two Limited Edition Street Fighter Arcade cabinet sticks from last generation that are useless due to the port switch.
EMaster @ May 25th 2008 3:17PM
The only way I am buying this game or the SSFTT REMIX HD or whatever it is called. If Microsoft brings out a friggin wireless joystick. That control pad is HORRIBLE FOR STREET FIGHTER and so is that arcade stick from Hori!

Could someone please explain why the ps3 d-pad is considered better than the 360 d-pad. IMO when you have to press in between the up and left d-pad button with the 360 you can do it easily since its closed all around, with the ps3 d-pad it seems that you can easily not press one of the two if combo requires both to be pressed. Not that I'm interested in purchasing a ps3, I support the 360 only, but I'm just curious to read the logic behind the assertions.
Darkwun @ May 26th 2008 5:21PM
for me its that the ps3 dpad has 4 seperate sections whereas the 360 has a plastic circle with directions raised on it so i find precise movements harder to perform and thumb tends to fall into the gaps, also the positioning of the dpad on the 360 is horrible for fighting and is only suited to changing weapons in 1st Pers Shooters etc
