XBLA in Brief takes a look at Warlords and Buku Sudokuthis week. On the one hand we've got yet another Atari "classic" and on the other we have ... Sudoku. It turns out that Warlords is actually surprisingly fun, though we're not sure we'd be willing to plop down our 500 MS Points for it. Buku Sudoku is ... Sudoku. It does its job well enough, and if you really need some Sudoku that doesn't fit on your lap, then Buku Sudoku might be just the ticket.

Buku, on the other hand, I've never heard of that game, although my wife says it's a big board game. I didn't want to like it, tried the demo, bought it, still don't want to like it, but find myself enjoying the hell out of that game.
@haukke I guess that could be because there is a demo available for all of the games he covers. By allowing you to see the game in action with some impressions, you should have a better idea of whether or not you will download the demo yourself and give it a try.
I also found it interesting someone else gave Buku Sudoku a 6 rating. Because it didn't revolutionize anything. IT'S SUDOKU! If you are advertised chess and get sudoku, I could understand, but they delivered on what they advertised. And it does have some damn sexy music.
Part of the reason I don't often declare if I really like something or not is because Arcade releases are aimed at a wide variety of people. I think I usually call something out if I think it's crap (Rocketmen and Rocky & Bullwinkle), but a lot of games on XBLA just aren't meant for real gamers. So, I try to inform more than judge.
Warlords remake is actually very good. I was coerced into buying it when an achievement unlocked in the demo and it said "Unlock the full game to have this achievement applied to your profile". If more demos did they I reckon they would sell more games.
The only issue is the retro mode is dire, and the throttle monkey is insanely fast for any normal player.
Nice review Richard. I'll stick to pen and paper for my sudoku but I think I'll check out warlords. One question about the music though, 'cus at both the beginning and the end of the video something righteous was playing through my speakers. Is that music from the sudoku game (hence your "sexy music" reference) or from your personal collection?

Attempting to play Warlords without rotary controls makes me sad. :( You just can't get the same level of control without them.

Agreed. It's just not the same game w/o a paddle.

From the X3F review: "For 400 MS Points you could actually do a lot worse on XBox Live Arcade."
That's sounds like a big endorsement. Atari should put that quote on their website to help sell the game. LOL.

unfortunetly that quote wont do as the games worse then these two which the quote refers too are all atari games as well :p

I really regret BattleZone. Not just because it isn't very good, but I keep getting to 48k, but you need 50k for an acheevo.

Thanks Richard, very informative; XBLA in Brief is my favorite recurring feature 'round these parts.

Yes, that music is actually in the game. You can download the trial and hear it playing in the menu.

I actually found a link to some of the music posted online.
