COD4 has now sold over 10 million copies
Talk about successful. In an industry driven by sales numbers, Infinity Ward's premier shooter, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, has now sold over 10 million units world-wide. While those numbers are undoubtedly impressive (according to IW only 10 games since 2000 have sold so well) they are for all platforms and IW doesn't know the exact numbers for the individual SKU's, though they did note that the game had been the most successful on 360 and that they hope to sell even more copies of the game this winter ....With such excellent sales what are the odds that we won't see COD5 until spring 2009? Would COD4 be enough of a mainstay shooter to keep you satisfied for the rest of the year if Activision decides to ride out the long tail of the fourth game's sales?
[Thanks Jonah]

Only problem is that IW isn't making CoD5. But, the public at large isn't going to know that, so they'll eat it up with a spoon.
Damn you, Activision!

You're welcome.

Gears of War 2 makes me just not care about call of duty. I can happily skip over 5 and wait for 6.

As long as Treyarch sticks to IW's new formula it will be good, not IW awesome but good quality nonetheless. COD3 is actually a good game despite what anybody sais.

"sais" really....sais.....wow
Well I feel the same way as the majority...they want IW to make 5...I don't want to way until 2010 or later for the next killer COD....lets just hope that they stick with the formula.....
Like the old saying goes, "If it isn't broke don't fix it!"

call of duty 4 and 2 were the best and they were IW but call of duty 1 and 3 are a little bit on the bad side still ok games but treyarch doesnt make as good games as IW
PerfectStrategy @ Jun 4th 2008 10:02AM
Call of Duty 1 was developed by IW.

So if they said they are hoping to sell even more copies around christmas, that could possibly mean more DLC to promote sales around said time could it not? I smell rumormill
AfroCelt @ Jun 4th 2008 10:03AM
COD1 was Infinity Ward.
COD3 had it's issues, but I enjoyed it immensely. Here's to hoping they bring back the classes again...maybe with a leveling/tweaking mechanic?
Healing downed teammates was kickass.

Call of Duty 4 is within hours of reclaiming the top spot on XBOX Live.

With IW doing their contest for user made maps... & say they release 5 or 6 of those for free, later this Summer, and then release another official DLC pack for $ and release 4 more maps this Fall/Winter... I don't need a stinkin COD5, especially if it is set in WW2. COD4 has plenty of legs as long as they give us more maps, and perhaps CTF. And with all the money they made on the first DLC for COD4... we'lll be seeing some more premium DLC from IW, you can bet on that.

+1,
except it would be really amazing if they added in a few new weapons
Boff @ Jun 5th 2008 5:47AM
+2!
Throw in some new challenges and you've got yourselves a deal Acti/IW

Hey Noob, I answered the question that you didnt seem to get. A bit more relevant than some snide comment from you. Dice has already promised an expansion of MP varieties for free unlike Activisions points needed for expnsion. Also after playing the beta and demo comapred to COD4 its a much more challenging game relying on more teamwork than run and gun of COD4. Which in the longer run of the games will offer more replay-ability than COD4 has so far. Who cares? Lots of people do, my hope is that the added challenges of vehicles and teamwork will also keep people from geting bored so easily they resort to just hanging around the games on the servers to TK and flame the other players.
PeterF @ Jun 4th 2008 2:34PM
@ZeitgeistXIII
There is no TK in CoD4
ZeitgeistXIII @ Jun 4th 2008 3:29PM
Actually there is if you play hardcore games. Geez is everybody out here trying to just compare johnsons?
James @ Jun 4th 2008 12:01PM
yeah those stats look totaly legit too.... Nice job...

I have stopped playing CoD4 because I never really got into the online anyway.
I don't know why CoD3 gets so much stick. Yes the game was bug-tastic, but the gameplay was good, it was fun, and the SP took far longer than the 6hours on CoD4, and I'm not going to put myself through Veteran after struggling to do 3.5 lvls of CoD2 vet.
Taylor @ Jun 4th 2008 12:38PM
I never got into COD4, there was just so much halo 3 to be played...

sorry my mistake about cod 1

I liked COD3, it had it's problems but graphically it was pretty darn awesome looking. If they look hard at how COD4 was done and stick to there formula I think we will have a game that looks as good if not better than any other game made for the 360 plus awesome gameplay to boot.
Michael @ Jun 4th 2008 4:28PM
Ha and Halo 3 sold 8 million+ on just one console alone.
erivera3 @ Jun 4th 2008 5:39PM
COD4 has to be one of the most frustrating games ever made at times; for example, someone not dying from me repeatedly stabbing them when their back is turned, then the same guy turning around and stabbing air from 20 feet away and killing me.
