Update: For clarity's sake (she's a demanding girl), Eurogamer specifically says that EA has "halted work" on the PS3 version of
Red Alert 3 and that development on it "has most definitely been paused." So, reeling back our fanboy speculation a touch, this means that the status of the project is still up in the air as EA hasn't officially canceled it. We cool now?
Interesting news out of the EA camp today as it was just
announced that the Playstation 3 version of the upcoming
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 has been
canceled halted with no reason given.
Eurogamer is reporting that EA has stopped production on the PS3 version leaving its development at a question mark status and will focus their developing efforts on the Xbox 360 and PC versions. Also, it's good to know that the
cancellation "on pause " status of
Red Alert 3 for the PS3 will not affect the game's scheduled Fall release on other platforms. So, the only place to get your console RTS fun this Fall will be
Red Alert 3 on the 360 ... or
Halo Wars on the 360. That is if Ensemble can get it out the door sometime this year.

You guys say it's canceled, PS3fanboy says it's on hold... wtf? Either way I'll be getting it for the PC.
iFester @ Jun 5th 2008 11:53AM
That's the only thing that bothers me here as a dual console owner. The PS3 reporting reads as factual while "Fanboy" comes off just a tad cocky. "Hold" doesn't read "canceled" to me.
offday @ Jun 5th 2008 1:32PM
Hold on a sec. So now "fanboy" just represents Xbox 360? Because I could have sworn that the PS3 blog was called PS3 fanboy too? Don't twist your words around just to make your point look better.
And Why would 360 fanboy lie? What do they have to gain from this? To me it seems that it'd make more sense for PS3 fanboy to call it "on hold", rather than cancelled. The poor PS3 needs some hope every now and then.

YAY more exclusives!
Though I didn't play to get this one anyway :P Plus if I did, i'd probably get it for the PC anyway. Strategy games will always be better on there, no matter what sadly. More buttons for hot-keys!
@Rampage99: Joystiq also had it down on hold..but they also said that its on hold, they said nothing about when it would start again and didn't say much more at all. That pretty much screams "canceled" in my book.
Rampage99 @ Jun 5th 2008 11:52AM
It's funny, I just bought a PS3 yesterday to prepare for MGS4 (and got a $100 giftcard thanks to Best Buy price matching Walmart) and in the last day, Getaway and 8 Days were both canceled and now this game is put on indefinite hold. It's like some force is trying to tell me to return the PS3. It's just sitting there collecting dust while I continue to play my 360.
Bravo6 @ Jun 5th 2008 12:02PM
The Red Alert series was so much better than the tiberium one imo. Well definitely pick this up, on the PC.
Procris @ Jun 5th 2008 12:06PM
... Expect it out 6 months later with extra content for PS3. Its a trend with multiplatform companies.
Trogdor @ Jun 5th 2008 12:07PM
The article linked to in the post says development has been "halted", and whether or not it will resume is "under wraps". That tells me that it might be released eventually, but it's still up in the air.
I'll get this on 360 cause that's what all my friends play, and C&C3 wasn't too bad on the console. Not as good as a PC, but it worked well enough.
bigd7387 @ Jun 5th 2008 12:21PM
That's why I sold my PS3 last month on eBay and just upgraded my old 360 to a new Elite with a Falcon motherboard and quiet BenQ drive. The reason Sony says the PS3 will have a 10 life cycle is because it will be 10 years before developers can understand how to make a game for the piece of junk. By that time I'll be gaming with the Next Generation Xbox. Go MS FTW.
DjDATZ @ Jun 6th 2008 10:52AM
LOL...ahahahahahahhahaha! awesome.
modelvillage @ Jun 5th 2008 12:32PM
Let PS3 fanboys make their excuses...truth is PS3 is dead and MGS4 proves it.
Dirty @ Jun 5th 2008 12:33PM
I hope I have my new PC by then, Im sorry but RTS will never be as enjoyable with the gamepad.
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 5th 2008 12:41PM
Couldn't agree more :)
After playing Triberium, I remain skeptical about RTS on consoles.
Sgt Barone @ Jun 5th 2008 12:36PM
Awesome! The 360 is the place for strategy people!! and RPGs, and shooters, and so on.
SUPER DESU @ Jun 5th 2008 12:49PM
"console RTS fun"
I've always found console RTS games lack of decent control methods to be anything but fun. I can't do stuff quick enough, and that pisses me off. It absolutely puzzles me why this game is on a living room console of any form.
EA ruining meh C&C... Yet again. :(
Gamertag: GOPAL892005 @ Jun 5th 2008 1:24PM
stop complaining - so what if its on the XBOX 360 as well? doesnt mean the PC version is ruined; if that was the case, & GoW shouldnt be on PC & the same with HALO.
its good for many ppl like me that dont have a desktop PC to game on.
C&C on the X360 was v.playable control wise, after a couple of missions, the control scheme becomes 2nd nature.
bottom line, if u wanna play the game on PC, then play it on PC & visa versa.
Raheem @ Jun 5th 2008 1:20PM
I hope this is going to have a good control system coz I'd love to play this on Xbox Live. They've got a 360mote coming, why not mouse support?
Trekster_Gamer @ Jun 5th 2008 2:42PM
Cry me a river PS3 fanboys,,,,
Hold Cancelled whatever you want to call it, know this it will still look, play and be better on the XB360. And at least for the near furture if you own a console and want to play this game then the XB360 as usual is the way to go! Bwhahahaha
FanboyMorons @ Jun 5th 2008 3:39PM
EA's a bunch of cocky dicks and bit off more than they could chew
Phantom25_95 @ Jun 5th 2008 5:04PM
errrrr , how is it exclusive , it's coming out for PC , even if it doesn't come out for PS3 . This is why I bought a PS3 instead of a 360 , I can get 360 "exclusives" for my PC . Can't do that with Final Fantasy , and Gran Turisimo and Ratchet and Clank , and MGS4 can you .
Waynebo @ Jun 5th 2008 5:38PM
Command and conquer red alert is on hold for ps3 its not 'cancelled', www.psxextreme.com says its on hold for the ps3 aswell, anyhow in my eyes command and conquer games have become rather tiresome, so its no great loss for the ps3
Will fn b @ Jun 5th 2008 5:41PM
Who really cares? RTS games are pretty bad on consoles, and none of them will really matter if StarCraft II comes out by the end of the year.
Mike @ Jun 5th 2008 5:48PM
I wasn't in the slightest bit interested in this game until I saw it advertised on Gina Carano's chest Saturday night.
