Video: GHIII 100% perfect Dragonforce's 'TTFAF'
Here it is! It really happened! One accomplishment that we never thought we'd see get accomplished has been, well ... accomplished. Guitar Hero III's overly long "Through the Fire and Flames" track by Dragonforce has recently been played 100% perfect on expert difficulty with video proof to boot. Youtube account holder iamchris4life uploaded his nearly cyborg-like GHIII strumming performance and, what more can be said? It's "Through the Fire and Flames" played perfectly on expert. Just watch and be amazed.
Also, towards the end of this eight minute video there is some NSFW celebratory "holy sh*t" remarks and f-bombs, but really, can you blame him? Celebrate however you want iamchris4life, you crazy good GHIII expert you.
[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

Headline typo. TTFAF*
JBurton @ Jun 6th 2008 4:09PM
Pretty good even though its on hyperspeed x5....
Which is a cheat of some sort.
tevetorbes @ Jun 6th 2008 4:35PM
I dunno, I've never played the song on GH, but from what I can hear of the VERY quiet track in the background, it sounds like it's normal speed.
Dragod @ Jun 6th 2008 5:40PM
It is normal speed... The only thing that is different is that the notes are spaced farther apart and fly at you faster. The song is still normal speed, and the notes still line up perfectly with the song.
I like Hyperspeed on some songs, it helps me count the amount of notes in close clusters of notes that are in long strings. Only disadvantage is that the notes have to register in your mind faster than on normal speed, and you see less notes on screen at one time.
Andrew @ Jun 6th 2008 6:40PM
While hyperspeed is technically a "cheat" because you have to go to the cheat section and enter in a series of buttons to get it to unlock, it has been accepted by Score Hero as a perfectly acceptable way to play.
DBoyFlex @ Jun 6th 2008 10:29PM
does anybody find it odd that he does not have to tilt the guitar to go into starpower? I usually have to tip the thing about at least 45 degrees to hit it. I don't know. Odd.
Mark @ Jun 7th 2008 2:05AM
Nope, he's probably using the select button. Some guitars sensors go bad or it doesn't go off when they want it to so they use the select button.
taco @ Jun 6th 2008 4:10PM
how much dedication and sacrifice could this accomplishment have required? I get enough flak for how much I play rockband and I've barely mastered half the songs, and only on Hard difficulty.
Jeff K @ Jun 6th 2008 4:15PM
dude, fuck people who give you a hard time for playing gh or rb a ton. you think anyone gave Jordan shit for playing too much basketball? do what you like to do.
Peff @ Jun 6th 2008 10:10PM
amen
Josh @ Jun 7th 2008 1:15PM
Wow, you guys are idiots. XD
Ozyman666 @ Jun 6th 2008 4:16PM
Hyperspeed speeds up the notes. I would think that would kinda be the opposite of a cheat.
Maximun2k10 @ Jun 6th 2008 4:29PM
o.O Amazing... i barely can play on medium... LOL
Van @ Jun 6th 2008 4:30PM
Can you activate star power without lifting the guitar? because i didn't see him lift it at all
Mutated Waffle @ Jun 6th 2008 4:33PM
Yes, you can activate Star Power with the Back button.
consaw @ Jun 6th 2008 4:35PM
I think if you hit the select button it will activate starpower.
Jonah Falcon @ Jun 6th 2008 4:34PM
I was wondering - how do you activate star power without lifting the guitar?
Plus, at the beginning, was he strumming anything? He used TWO hands to play the opening notes.
Fishy.
tevetorbes @ Jun 6th 2008 4:37PM
Pretty sure you can play very long passages if the notes are close enough together as hammer-ons and pull-offs. You have to have pretty awesome timing, however.
Kholdstare @ Jun 6th 2008 4:39PM
He used his elbow to strum.
Yuccadude @ Jun 6th 2008 4:40PM
And if you miss, you can apparently use your elbow to strum, but he didn't miss...And the timing for hammer-ons and pull-offs in GHIII is super lenient compared to RB and GHII.
Casper @ Jun 7th 2008 12:01PM
When the notes are glowy you just have to press on the them. No need to use the strum bar.
Chris @ Jun 6th 2008 4:50PM
I would like to take this time to quote some South Park:
"Congratulations!
You're
a
F**!"
Arno @ Jun 6th 2008 5:03PM
That is seriously impressive... wow.
Brave @ Jun 6th 2008 5:07PM
Fail.
J8675309 @ Jun 6th 2008 5:09PM
Some answers to VERY noobish questions:
1) That is hyperspeed, level 5. It is in the cheat menu, it is now officially due to Neversoft's intergration of leaderboards, NOT cheating, before, the debate reared it's ugly head periodically. Trying to discuss the illegitimacy of hyperspeed on Scorehero.com is not allowed, you will be banned if try to say it's cheating.
2) The entire intro is one giant hammer-on, the technique he used is called "tapping" and requires a high degree of skill, because you cannot miss and break the chain.
2b) He was not strumming with his elbow, he either strummed the first note with his elbow, or, more likely, played the first few notes normally while bringing up his other hand.
3) You can activate star power by hitting select, it is preferred by many players because of the precision available in activating star power exactly when you want it.
Kholdstare @ Jun 6th 2008 5:15PM
Thanks for the info. But fail to see how anything said before was "noobish" as the video in question was very high level play.
bigd7387 @ Jun 6th 2008 5:12PM
What more can this guy do to prove to people he did what he did? I'm giving the guy mad props and anybody thinking it's fishy is just envious. Awsome.
Kholdstare @ Jun 6th 2008 5:17PM
What i meant as not noobish was us commenting about it and not the actual video itself*
strangemusician @ Jun 6th 2008 5:19PM
I play a lot of GH... and... wow. I'm rather astonished that someone can be that good and/or that lucky, Hyper Speed notwithstanding. (To the person who asked about Hyperspeed making the notes faster being a bad thing: faster notes means more space in between the notes, which is HIGHLY desirable in almost all cases.)
Having said that.... this man has probably sucked every last drop of enjoyment from Guitar Hero for himself. I am saddened.
Chimaera @ Jun 6th 2008 6:34PM
Yeah I thought this was done before too. I remember seeing a ton of 100% of this song but I can't remember if it was on expert.
Treima @ Jun 6th 2008 5:39PM
People have FC'd this song on Expert before, haven't they? I know some kid from Texas did it and posted it on YouTube.
wickedpheonix @ Jun 6th 2008 6:14PM
Can I call it as fake? Just because the guitar doesn't move for star power, and for this I have seen way more fake ones by people using macroed controllers, looks like he's just faking it to a macroed sequence.
He still deserves the cheevos because macroing that is hard and takes an insane amount of time, but it's not the same.
Jim @ Jun 6th 2008 6:38PM
Read the previous comments before calling something fake. Everyone has already discussed the star power and how you can hit back to activate it.
xenocidic @ Jun 9th 2008 8:28AM
I love it when newbs who don't know what the hell they're talking about come on to talk shit
Drago Dracini @ Jun 6th 2008 6:46PM
I want to pull out the "you are a fag" comment that South Park gave us. But god. That was amazing.
Helloimbob @ Jun 6th 2008 6:46PM
I LOVE the way he didn't expect to 100%
He must be like... I filmed a FC of TTFAF... I'm going to asplode an internets.
tan @ Jun 7th 2008 7:49AM
hes gotton close before though so i suppose he wanteed to try to this time
last time he missed about 10..
Jay @ Jun 6th 2008 7:15PM
So why is he still fingering notes during the pause at around 52 seconds?
Sorry if this is a noob question, just don't understand the reasoning.
Parsnipzilla @ Jun 7th 2008 3:27AM
He was keeping to the rhythm so he doesn't lose the beat.
Drummers sometimes do it in midair
J8675309 @ Jun 6th 2008 7:40PM
boredom, that's why.
and it's not a fluke he got this on film, he films nearly every attempt. He's been getting closer and closer for weeks, people on scorehero were going apeshit when he got a -3 run about a week ago.
and no, no one else has done this before.
chhww @ Jun 7th 2008 6:52AM
DUH the reason he is pressing the buttons inbetween is to prove he isnt boting as bots can only hit notes and can't play in between.
Graeme Q @ Jun 6th 2008 9:08PM
Wasn't this the same guy that got given some award by Neversoft for being the GH world champion or somesuch? Sure looks like him.
Either way, its not a fake (imo) and fair play to him.
daniel @ Jun 6th 2008 9:29PM
I like how the streak notes stopped popping up towards the very end i guess they didn't program it to go that high
Daniel @ Jun 6th 2008 9:30PM
lol I like the noob questions
jason @ Jun 6th 2008 9:41PM
we all know that real guitar heroes don't play sitting down.
Anticrawl @ Jun 6th 2008 9:51PM
Impressive
mernmern @ Jun 7th 2008 3:23AM
My goal of beating medium suddenly does not seem that sweet anymore.
OkayOctane @ Jun 7th 2008 5:41AM
Did anyone happen to catch a glimpse of his hand? Yeap...an extra finger...
That was pretty cool though. I wonder if he plays real guitar, if not, he should try I'd assume he'd find it a breeze.
Flame @ Jun 7th 2008 7:15PM
holy. shit. no. life.
HalfAzn @ Jun 7th 2008 10:37PM
I liked at the break in the song he had to shake his hand out from cramping and wipe the sweat off lol.
This guy is nuts.
