GamePro reveals Halo Wars co-op, new units, controls and more
Halo Wars Addict posted scans of all ten pages of GamePro's Halo Wars article (you know, for those outside the States who can't view the magazine's contents any other way ...) and inside we learn about the game's current control scheme, new UNSC vehicles including Vultures, Cyclops and Cobras as well as mention that the campaign will be a combination of human and Covenant worlds. Also, even more exciting is confirmation that Halo Wars will boast six player Xbox Live multiplayer AND feature two person online co-op as well! Purchase a copy of GamePro's July issue to read about all the Halo Wars goodness or ... uhhh ... go here.

This is set before the events in the Halo Trilogy so the flood haven't been discovered yet.

It's not exactly a BAD thing: just disappointing. I was expecting a brand new, awesome RTS. This looks meh so far.
The fact that they didn't even include the flood is frankly lazy. 2 factions = :(

Looks to be a good game, I just wish it was for PC. I tried and liked C&C III and played the whole game in 360, but when I downloaded the demo and saw how good the game looked on my MacBook Pro (in XP of course) I sold it and bought the PC version. Console controls can be really good, but they'll just never surpass the mouse.

I'll still never get why Mac users will by proprietary non-upgradable over-priced hardware from Apple then ditch the OS for XP. Seems meaningless and ignorant.

I agree with what the person said about the mouse thing though. I really wish the game would come out on more then just 360. I've always played RTS's on PC...and I've tried it on the 360, it's just not the same

I really wish I watermarked the original photos. These are my scans, this is the third time I have seen them on another site without them sourcing them to me. I asked them to source be but there is no guarantee.

Know what I'd like to see, but it's impossible.
How about they integrate a map from this into a a new map in Halo 3.
It would be an online mode where people playing the Halo 3 engine play as the spartan units, while a person playing Halo Wars controls a number of controlled marine untis.
Doubt it's even possible but that'd be schweet.

The Flood will never be in this game, and for a perfectly good reason...it'd make no sense. It'd make as much sense as having 343 Guilty Spark in it or having Covenant fighting humans on Earth.

Some people don't understand how specific of a time line the halo universe has...and fail to understand that this game is set at a very specific point on that timeline.

Cautiously optimistic here, I can't tell from any of this if the co-op is online only (boo) or allows split-screen local co-op (yay!).
I'll admit I'm skeptical about playing RTS on the 360, as a long time C&C fan I excitedly downloaded the demo of C&C3 shortly after we got our 360 but was really really disappointed in the controls.
Being that HW is created for the 360, not created for PC and ported to consoles, I'm hopeful that it will be enjoyable.

So, I played an early build last summer and I must say the Ensemble guys have flipped the typical RTS control scheme on it's head to make it work on a console. I found it very easy to pick up and play (although I spent all my turns trying to build some massive aircraft i had never seen before while the guy from ensemble actually built a whole army... then it all froze anyways). In fear of violating my former confidentiality agreement, I'll say don't expect this game anytime this year and Chronicles (or whatever they call it now) will have new missions as well as new maps (plus all other map packs included).
