Gamefly offers up special Xbox Live offer

Gamefly currently has a promotion running where they're offering all Xbox Live subscribers their first month of rentals for only $5.95 PLUS they're throwing in 400 Microsoft points for free. That's of course for one rental at a time, but you can up your rentals to two for $9.95 (again, only the first month) and still get the free MS points. Note that this offer is only good for new Gamefly accounts and the monthly fee will get jacked back up to a minimum of $15.95 a month. But, like we said, it's a good introductory offer if you were thinking about doing the whole Gamefly thing anyway.
[Thanks, Adam L]

The page is kind of confusing. They're making it sound like I have to give THEM the MS Points along with the 5.95.
monkeymonkeymonkey @ Jun 12th 2008 4:04PM
I agree. I took a look at the site, and its a bit confusing. I dont see any fine print stating how you will get the 400 points.
Can anyone confirm that this is $5.95 plus they will GIVE you 400 MS points? It could be $5.95 + 400 MS points, which would equal to roughly $9.95.

400 microsoft points has an exclamation mark next to it. It's obviously meant as "Sign up and get 400 microsoft points" though I realize why it could be confusing.

I've thought about gamefly before, to get games I'm interested in, but not enough to go out and buy them.
Any fanboys have a review of the service?

Great service,,,, but then again i live by a distribution center. Great thing is the keep it prices. I got NG2 for 30 and MGS4 for 45, I was the first to rent them so they are kind of new.
Jon @ Jun 12th 2008 3:28PM
gamefly is a very good service depending on where you live, i haven't used them in a while and their new availability program concerns me about how long a game will be available.
Tony @ Jun 12th 2008 3:37PM
I live in Chicago, which apparently isn't super close to their distribution channels... at least it wasn't several months ago.
Forget about the 1 game plan. It takes about a week for them to get the game and ship it back... meaning you're lucky if you get to try 1 to 2 games in a month.
I liked the 3 game plan better, but it quickly devolved in a game of organizing my queue so I could get new titles around the time they released. There's so many other people trying to get things that most of what I wanted was marked as long wait.
I was never completely happy with it for the price. I felt like I spent a hell of a lot more time waiting for games than actually playing them. It's definitely not as efficient as, say, Netflix... but then again, they have a Chicago distribution channel lol.

I just got it, and I love it! The only problem is availability of some games. Older games are harder to come by, and some of the newer games are harder to get. It's great for trying out those games you didn't want to spend $60, but were interested in.
Also, if you are a cheevo farmer like myself... this opens up a whole cheevtastic world of unharvested ch33vz. :P

I love Gamefly. I've been with them since 2003 and have yet to have any real issues with them. A couple of games have got lost on the way back, but it was never an issue. I live in the Houston area and they opened up an Austin distribution center about a month ago and the service has improved quite a bit. Games only take about a day or two to get here and back now. They send me new releases the day of as well. I can get new games at a very cheap price as well with their "GameFly Bucks" I could keep MGS4 right now for $34. It's a great service.
BananaBoat @ Jun 12th 2008 4:57PM
I'm somewhat dissatisfied with Gamefly. It's 2 days post to the distribution center, so when I send in a game, it's 2 days for it to get there, and then 2 days for them to send the next one. In other words, if I weren't paying for the 2 out at a time plan, I'd have nothing to play for 4 days. I only really sign up for a month when there is a new release I want to rent, and really, I think that is the only thing the service is good for. It'd be much cheaper to buy the occasional cheap used game and not signup for gamefly, than to signup just to play old games (if that makes any sense).

Oh man it is excellent! I recommend it to everyone. I even have the 4-game account. Been using it since November, I live in San Francisco and get games in 2-3 days. It saved me a ton of money. Plus no more getting burned on buying bad games!

It's hard to get new tittles and the turnaround time in NY is almost one week. Open a distro center in NY and we'll talk about getting my membership back, mokay?
monkeymonkeymonkey @ Jun 12th 2008 3:57PM
Can you cancel before the month is up? I would do this deal if I can cancel.
Vcize @ Jun 12th 2008 4:04PM
How much is the 3 out at a time plan?
All I see on the site is 1 at a time for $15.95/mo and 2 at a time for $22.95/mo.
I was expecting 3 at a time to be arond $20/mo and I would've paid that, but $23/mo for 2 at a time? Yikes.
Mighty Healthy @ Jun 12th 2008 8:57PM
Try GamezNFlix, great prices, their service was far more kind that GameFly's, both in wait, and prices.
With them, I think you can get 3 games out for 17 a month (!!!)
I'm gonna take advantage of this deal, however...see if GF's premium prices are worth it (probably not.)
Vcize @ Jun 12th 2008 9:07PM
I've had Gameznflix on two separate occasions and even own stock in them, but they are total garbage unless all you're interested in are 2 year old games.
It is impossible to get anything resembling a new release from them.
ogvor @ Jun 12th 2008 4:16PM
I may give this a try for the summer. Alone in the Dark, Civ: Revolutions, Grid (and DiRT), and the free points all pique my interest. I just wonder how long it would take to get these games.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Jun 12th 2008 4:19PM
Then you probably don't want to see their 4-game plan :P ($37/mo)
Philip (Fernando Rocker Defence Force) @ Jun 12th 2008 4:22PM
I might give this a try just increase my Gamersocore.
ZEBRA NINER @ Jun 12th 2008 7:12PM
Teh ch33v0z are calling.
Lukin @ Jun 12th 2008 4:29PM
I live near chicago and the time between games has been significantly reduced. If i send a game back on monday i would usually have a new game by thursday or Friday. It use to take over a week to get a game once returning. The Pittsburgh distrobution center helped out alot.
cphillips0526 @ Jun 12th 2008 4:35PM
IMO, this isn't that great of a deal. You can generally find free trial subscription offers at places like dealnews.com. Just save the $6 and go buy the points yourself and enjoy free rentals!
Jim @ Jun 12th 2008 5:28PM
I've been thinking of trying the service, so I'm going for it. The points come via e-mail somehow...
PerfectStrategy @ Jun 12th 2008 10:47PM
I was already on the verge of signing up, so this just makes it a little bit better for me. My first game is on its way! Yay!
