Rumor: 60GB 360 coming alongside E3 price cut
Remember the rumor that a 360 price cut was imminent and that a new 360 SKU was headed our way? Trusted Reviews has taken it upon itself to speculate on exactly what the supposed new SKU will be (and this rumor didn't even come from a survey!). Specifically, Trusted Reviews believes it will be a new 360 model that includes a 60GB hard drive. Obviously, 60 gigabytes is less than the 120 gigabyte hard drive that comes with the Xbox 360 Elite, meaning that the supposed 60GB 360 would likely replace the current 20GB 360 Pro. Supposedly, the announcement is set for E3 with an actual release in early August (before August 10 according to Trusted Reviews).
The question that remains is whether the Xbox 360 Arcade would then be bundled with the 20GB hard drive or if it will remain without a hard drive. Also still up in the air is how the 60GB model would affect the possibility of a price cut. Is it possible that Microsoft will release a new SKU and offer it for a lower price than the current model? Oh, we hope so. Let's throw in cuts for the Arcade and Elite while we're at it.

This would be great for 'the undecided'. Now, all MS needs to do is make the prices for the HDDs more affordable and I'll buy a 60 GB HDD.
Think about it, New sku, new HDD, lower price, motion-controller, and an answer to Singstar w/Lips and MS could really pack a punch in 2008. I'm glad I 'jumped in'.
Deezul @ Jun 16th 2008 11:16AM
The 360 has been out for nearly 3 years now. I'd say anyone who bought a core probably bought a hard drive soon after. They realized the mistake and bundled the 256MB memory card with the Arcade, but still. Since all PS3s have a hard drive, and the Marketplace is getting a bit of a push, it would make sense for them to eliminate the non hard driver versions. Go with 20GB in the Arcade, 60GB in the Pro/Premium, and 120GB in the Elite. Then, drop the prices to $250, $320, and $400. Price points available equal to the Wii as well as the PS3. You heard it hear first.
itsburnsie @ Jun 16th 2008 11:43AM
I came here to say, basically, what you just said.
If MS were to do this, the 360 would be a VERY appealing option for a lot of undecided gamers out there. Best price point, best game library, and all models with a hard drive.
DjDATZ @ Jun 16th 2008 11:50AM
@itsburnie precisely. ms needs to put in a HDD into EVERY model.
Josh @ Jun 16th 2008 11:17AM
They need to ditch all these different models and just go with one. It's extremely confusing to the average consumer that doesn't know what even a hard drive is. Make one console model and cut the price as much as you can and for the love of God Microsoft, include WIFI built-in. Even the Zune has built-in WIFI. I say go with the Elite model because of the 120 GB hard drive, include WIFI and have it in the regular white and black. If they'd do this and cut the price down to $300 they'd sell a ton and Sony wouldn't stand a chance.

Wireless is no good if you want to stream Hi Def via the Media Extender. It's too slow, you need a wired connection. I have wireless in my house, but I've moved everything off when I can. More secure, faster pipe, at least for the home network. It's all cable modem speeds once it leaves my house.
PeterF @ Jun 16th 2008 1:08PM
@Deezul
not everyone is streaming HD and would like wireless so that they can play at any TV in their house and not have to drill holes and run cables everywhere.

Does this site post news anymore or just rumors?
DjDATZ @ Jun 16th 2008 11:48AM
why does it matter? rumours are a form of news too. lol
and just cuz there's been a huge string of rumours in the past 24 hours, that doesn't mean X3F won't EVAR post any more news.
jaybird1905 @ Jun 16th 2008 11:51AM
Well usually I come to X3F for news or updates about the 360 community or the box itself.
Instead, today I'm welcomed with a wall of rumors and speculation, hardly any real news of actual happenings or events.
Guess it's just been a slow weekend :(
itsburnsie @ Jun 16th 2008 11:58AM
"Does this site post news anymore or just rumors?"
I don't know the answer to that, but I do have a counter-question to ask...
Are you going to stop being an internet D-bag long enough to do something constructive with your life?
Magic 8-ball sez:
*Don't count on it.*
webster1990 @ Jun 16th 2008 12:09PM
it's not X3F's fault that a series of rumours have been unearthed. Plus, the rumours are interesting and giveus something to talk/write about. Also, if X3F didn't write about it people would complain that they aren't keeping up with similar news websites.
I trust the people at fanboy towers, and i'm sure they will post any 360 related news when it happens.
jaybird1905 @ Jun 16th 2008 12:17PM
@ burnsie
Calm down troll, they'll be plenty more little kids that cross your bridge.
itsburnsie @ Jun 16th 2008 12:40PM
The troll called me a troll, so I win teh intarwebs.
Also, since we're being so mature about this:
I am rubber, you are glue, everything you say bounces off of me and sticks to you.
or
I know you are but what am I?
or
You are what you... eat... wait what?
jaybird1905 @ Jun 16th 2008 12:46PM
I guess ...
Responding to a question by calling me a "internet d-bag" lmao.
Glad to see the internet is still infested with stupid 14 year old twats.
Have fun with your nursery rhymes ... hopefully your scout leader stopped putting it in your butt at the Jamboree.
itsburnsie @ Jun 16th 2008 1:02PM
I called you an internet D-bag because you were acting like one... and with posts like:
"hopefully your scout leader stopped putting it in your butt at the Jamboree."
...you're not really helping your case. I'm done, respond if you want to, but this has to stop.
BKB @ Jun 16th 2008 11:38AM
I'm interested in upgrading my harddrive but I don't want to lose everything I've downloaded. I know MS keeps your download history and I could essentially RE-Download everything but is there any other way I can transfer everything from one harddrive to another?
DjDATZ @ Jun 16th 2008 11:49AM
the elite comes with a transfer cable that'll let you copy everything from your old HDD to your new one...
the 120gb drive doesn't come with the cable but you can fill out a form to get the cable for free from MS.
Boff @ Jun 16th 2008 11:50AM
Well you're in luck because MS have this crazy contraption known as a Data Migration Kit. If you ring them and ask nicely they might let you have one, provided you know the secret password.
Or if that doesn't work you can just fill in the form for the Data Migration Kit in the support area of Xbox.com.
I waited nearly 3 months for mine in the UK though.
Boff @ Jun 16th 2008 11:50AM
Damn too slow.
Boff @ Jun 16th 2008 11:52AM
Datz isn't it the other way round? The 120Gb HDD comes with the transfer cable but the Elite doesn't? (At least mine didn't.)
Deezul @ Jun 16th 2008 12:18PM
Correct. Free cable with standalone 120GB drive, fill otu a form for Elite. I got the cable, but since I kept my 20GB 360, I didn't bother using it.
DjDATZ @ Jun 16th 2008 11:45AM
Sweet. I'll take a 60 please!
Dom @ Jun 16th 2008 11:49AM
Bundles please! With outside corresponding box art a la PS3's MGS4 and GTAIV Bundles damnit!
NG2 Bundle, GOW2 Bundle, COD4 GOTY Bundle, GTAIV Bundle, Too Human Bundle, Banjo Bundle, Halo Wars Bundle. F#%! MS, its not that difficult!
249.00 60gb Premium
349.00 120gb Elite
Do away with the Arcade.
That is all.
jake18oly @ Jun 16th 2008 1:29PM
Those prices would be sweet! If they knocked the premium down to $249.99 and threw in a 60gb Hard Drive I would pick up a second 360 just like that.
mattclarkie @ Jun 16th 2008 12:07PM
I don't know why anyone would buy a non-HDD version unless they didn't know what they are doing. Now we have the 512mb MU perhaps you can get away without an HDD, but stick 4/5 saves and a gamer profile onto the old 64mb and you have basically filled it.
MS should have just HDD equipped consoles, and perhaps sell drives at cost to those who bought a core or arcade.
ANt @ Jun 16th 2008 12:24PM
I say $.50 a gig. How about a 200 GB HDD for $100
That would rock!!
modelvillage @ Jun 16th 2008 12:25PM
Ditch all existing SKU's and replace with:
20gb, Wifi, 6 months live
and
60gb, Blu Ray built in, Wifi, 6 months live
Would kill the PS3.
Deezul @ Jun 16th 2008 12:44PM
And so if I want lots of storage but no Blu Ray because I already have a PS3 I do what? Or I already have an Elite and just want a Blu-Ray player I do what? Just announce a Blu-Ray add on for $150. Then you could go with my new low end 360 plus add on, and still be at a $400 price point to compete with the PS3.
modelvillage @ Jun 16th 2008 12:48PM
Does MS care if you already own a PS3? I doubt it....
john paul @ Jun 16th 2008 12:48PM
This would be smart, but a blu-ray add-on is now NEEDED.
Then, no existing 360 owners would think of buying a ps3 for 400 if they can spend only 150-200 on an add on.
But if they put the 20 with the arcade for $250, 60 with the pro for $320, and the Elite for $400, they'll be in business.
Jeremy @ Jun 16th 2008 12:50PM
wish I would of knew this last month when I bought a new 360. But it always happens that way right ?!
Deezul @ Jun 16th 2008 12:55PM
Shouldn't have bought that Day 1 360, because MS MIGHT upgrade it... Man, glad I never bought a PS2 when they were released, since I can get one cheap now...
emirabal @ Jun 16th 2008 12:58PM
just start dropping the price of the hard drives, i needz a 120gb, pluz
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 16th 2008 1:05PM
Good news, hopefully its more then a rumour.
Procris @ Jun 17th 2008 9:06AM
This will be a great move if they start to pack Arcade units with the 20gb hard drive, then start premium off with the 60gbs. Price drop the 20gb hard drive as well while they are at it.
wehat @ Jul 12th 2008 5:55AM
Will these new 60GB models include the 65nm GPU?
