New Halo novel this fall: The Cole Protocol
Alright folks, time to demonstrate our nerdiness for all the internet too see. After the most recent Halo novel, Contact Harvest, we really hoped that if there was to be another that it would be by penned by either Eric Nylund or Bungie institution Joseph Staten. While we aren't quite getting the thing we really would have wished for, (Staten is likely hard at work on the secret Project Phoenix, and Nylund is likely writing stuff for Microsoft Game studios) we will be seeing another Halo novel before the year is out.
Entitled The Cole Protocol the next novel is going to be penned by Tobias S. Buckell, an up and coming sci-fi writer, and is going to deal with a supposedly new perspective and the Spartan Gray team. So far the only mention of other Spartans (warned ya 'bout the nerdiness) in the books are a few passing references. There was this from Ghosts of Onyx: "And what had ever happened to Gray Team on a mission far outside the confines of UNSC space, now missing for over a year?" and then this from Fall of Reach: "Assembled here tonight, are all surviving Spartans save three, who are otherwise engaged on fields of combat too distant to be easily recalled."
The book is set for a fall release and more about it should be revealed as the final date inches ever closer. You are all now that much closer to being Halo otaku. Glad we could help. (Also, to avoid any confusion, that cover isn't real, it's a 'shop.)

GAH! I still have to finish Ghosts of Onyx AND start Contact Harvest! Good thing I'm going on vacation in a little over a week...I'll actually be able to read all of them! I still need to get another book too...

Darn it! You got my hopes up with a really cool cover. Oh well, I'll be looking forward to this in the fall.

I downloaded the author's first draft from the torrentz...
...It's shit, it was the butler all along, and they all die at the end.

is it sad that the only thing i find interesting about halo anymore is the books?

I've read: Fall of Reach (the best book in the halo novel series), The Flood, First Strike and Ghost of Onyx. All pretty good books but i've yet to try Contact Harvest....and now theres another book coming out?! Thats actually kind of nice, i love how they further the story and halo universe with the books.
I'm all halo'ed out right now, might pick up these books in a year or 2.

Anyone else think that Chief looks a little feminine in this shot?
I know it's not the real cover, I'm just sayin'.
Rami @ Jun 17th 2008 11:14AM
Thats not Master Chief. The story is about a group of spartans called the grey team.

I still haven't even cracked open Contact Harvest, but I read all of the others and I'm really disappointed to read that this one will not be penned by Nylund. I don't want a book that takes a different look at things, I think that Nylund's approach was perfect for the Halo universe.

Last week I bought all 5 of the Halo books and now i need to know if there is a particular order they should be read in. Can anybody help?
Gigantor @ Jun 17th 2008 10:10PM
Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, Contact Harvest
Flip Top Eddie @ Jun 17th 2008 3:28PM
that's not the real cover? I love the books probably more than the games themselves. Fall of reach is still the best and I look forward to seeing what this new guy brings to the universe.

Yep, Contact Harvest, The Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx.
