Rumor: Forza 3 'core game' fits on one disc

We're told that Indian asset developer Dhruva Interactive has been commissioned to create 3D assets for Forza 3 (they've previously worked on both Forza titles as well as PGR3 and PGR4), mentioning that they are hard at work churning out some 400 pretty racecar models. Using his insider Dhruva knowledge, the "inside-man" commented saying that "one way or the other, the core game will be shipped on a single disc. Content won't be sacrificed... fans will be pleasantly surprised for what's in store." So, we're even more confused to how many discs Forza 3 will be spread across and what content will be on each. Hopefully we won't have to disc swap mid race.

Forza 3 - 3 for 3 discs, what's the problem (jk).
Like I've said before though, I think we're looking at an install. Disc swapping doesn't make too much sense for a racing game because then you're going to have half the cars available on half the tracks only with a disc switch. That said, if it isn't an install I wonder if I could use my old HD-DVD add-on purely so the 360 finds the second disc in the second drive and I don't have to switch discs :)
AxFactor @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:24PM
I really can't see an install though. Because most people have 20GB (really 13) HDDs and if most are like me then they are fighting for 1GB to download a demo. I am planning to upgrade here within the next month, but you can't expect people to shell out 175 for an accessory plus 60 bucks to play one game.
Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I'm just saying.
BTW, the 1 disc with the career and 1 with rcade makes much more sense. I think Gran Turismo 2 did that, I didn't seem to mind it.
Azshros @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:30PM
I have tried to play a game through HD-DVD, and it has failed. So i dont think extra game content would read on it either.
JSBeckerist @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:24PM
@AxFactor:
"...you can't expect people to shell out 175 for an accessory plus 60 bucks to play one game."
Rock Band? Guitar Hero? DDR?
AxFactor @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:47PM
@JSBeckerist
But the 175 included the game ;)
Really though, the insruments in Rockband are needed to play the game,(well all but the gutiar if you had GH2/3) But most people already have a HDD, why buy another just to play a game unless you really needed a bigger HDD.

PS3 fanboys are going to eat this shit up.
Dale @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:52PM
Oh well... when their only decent system exclusive has to force a 4GB+ install despite its "OMG SUPERIAR DISX! LOL", who gives a damn?
Whocares @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:46PM
I think it's a Career mode disc and a Multiplayer/Arcade disc
Barron @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:49PM
Yeah that does make sense. And the install that was mentioned before if they use it, will be optional.
Phour ZwanZig @ Jun 23rd 2008 11:57PM
Yep.. Thats what I have thought, all along.. VIA the method that GT took w/ 2 discs..
Striker @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:47PM
I'd be willing to install a DVD-9 with the cars and tracks to my hard drive and just use the game disc with the core game to play.
Tony @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:48PM
I loved Forza 2. If they can address the main complaints against it (namely some iffy backgrounds and lack of car interiors), I'd be more than happy... I just hope the 100 tracks aren't just 10 reconfigured 10 different ways. The last one did that a bit too often.
I'd also love if I could use the tracks I purchased for 2 in 3, but I'm sure that won't happen.
Delirium @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:48PM
A racing game with more than one disc? Ugh. I hated swapping discs for FF games why the hell would I want to do it for a RACING GAME.
Josh @ Jun 23rd 2008 3:52PM
Gran Turismo 2 was multiple CD's and it wasn't bad at all...I don't foresee this as being a problem.
Bootleg Zani @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:00PM
What a classic image.
My only complaints with the Forza series was that it lacked a sense of speed. It had all the customization done right but the feeling you got when racing was just not the same as other racers inspire. If they fix this in Forza 3, it will be a must own title.
bigC24 @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:02PM
One disc for each lap, it makes perfect sense fellas.
B Tizo @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:03PM
What is the problem with disc swapping, seriously? Is it really that much of a pain? Why not single player on a disc and multiplayer on a disc. I don't see the big deal. And installs aren't bad, either, so long as they're optional. If it makes the game better, I'll do it.
larrydoomhammer @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:23PM
Ya really, too many people whining about installs. If you really don't have time to install a game, then you probably shouldn't be playing video games.
You get more bang for your buck!
Jonman @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:28PM
Oh noes! Teh Xbox needz teh blu-rey!
Great. More fuel for fanboy f*#^tards.
Timmy @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:42PM
I dont see the point of this idea with single/multiplayer-discs everyone is talking about. The things taking up the space is required both in single and multiplayer anyway. Cars, tracks, sounds, textures. That seems like the most ineffective way possible to divide a game.
Sure they can remove the carrer mode and videos from the multiplayer disc, but what is to be removed from the single player disc? The ~50mb of network code? (No I have no idea of how much that code weighs, just that compared to everything else, its close to nothing).
boog @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:43PM
as long as it has in car view I could care less. Forza physics, plus in car view equals greatest game of all time.
Konchu @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:47PM
I'm interested to see how this works. Not sure how easy it would be to do a single player and multiplayer disk. I'm sure there is some space that could be saved but tracks and cars will have to be used on both disk and I would imagine they are the largest parts. I'm sure they will make whatever work though.
joey @ Jun 23rd 2008 4:49PM
Disc swapping mid race can simulate tire exchanging.
Orbstah @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:10PM
Well as a PS3 user I can Live with an install its really no hardship, although it does crack me up a little when i read old posts about PS3 installs being an issue and now 360 owners (myself included) are facing installs its ok all of a sudden. Still I agree with the track issues. wasnt to many diffrent tracks in 2 and the scenery was bland. Maybe tone down the whole mod options to. GT2 was a disk swap but remember we were talking CD's here. GT3 and GT4 both fitted on one DVD. I really hope they dont get silly with the disk swapping, the GT 2 idea was nice one was racing circuits the other was off road and stuff.
tan @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:47PM
no my friend
installs sound rubbish, esp if someone has a 40gb ps3 and they have 10 games that install each with 4gbs.
we want optional installs!
now that would be good=]
Orbstah @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:27PM
No your wrong, how many people actually play 10 games ? I think you'll find it very few indeed. Install is fine in my book
Pixelantes Anonymous @ Jun 24th 2008 2:43PM
If you aren't playing more than 10 games over the lifetime of the PS3, then give that machine away, you aren't using it enough.
The problem with the installs isn't the right and now, but the eventual future when you end up buying that 11th game. For some people that's 6 months in, for some 12 months in and for some people it's 36 months in after they bought the PS3. But it's going to happen, for everyone, at some point.
Orbstah @ Jun 25th 2008 2:11PM
did you not read what i wrote ? I meant who play 10 games at once, save data is not massive, most people will have maybe 3-4 games at anyone time that they are constantly playing, regardless of what you might say. I dont reckon you yourself play ( regulary) more than 5 ? If you say otherwise your a liar or spoilt. game save data can be maintained and you just delete installs for older games, or buy a bigger hd for your PS3 or 360 which arew both easy to do, but most people just delete installs they dont play anymore. Its no hardship. PC users do it every daY and a 360 is just a PC in a different case and no one is gonna tell me different :)
Maverick Saturn @ Jun 23rd 2008 5:31PM
I damn well hope so, switching CD is okay, as long as it doesn't become tedious because everything you need is on the other CD, meaning you have to switch back and forth.
Andrew @ Jun 23rd 2008 6:22PM
Sweet graphic.
recon @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:35PM
Ok i have the perfect idea, and im thinking they might be doing something along these lines. The core disc has both single and multiplayer on the core disk with the more common cars and some to all the tracks. Then disk 2 comes along with the rest of the cars and tracks and who knows what else(songs). If you want one of the 300 cars not on disk one you can install them individualy on to you xbox, if some one has car that you dont have installed then you will see the wire frame, and tracks you dont have will be locked, or you might be able to swap disk while the core game is loaded in the RAM.
I just thought about how they could put dash view on the second disk and a additional install, a non core component and would eat up much space, because then you look into the car you would have a basic\decent looking dash but then you went to dash view they could do come PGR\dirt stuff here.
if any one has imput please let me know im a long time PGR and Forza fan
Neuromancer @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:36PM
Thanks but no thanks, I think I'll just stick with Grid.
bugatti23007 @ Jun 23rd 2008 8:49PM
O BOO Hu.Who cares if you have to swap discs between mid-race.Why do you have to complain over something so stupid. If you love racing games so much you will shut up and buy it especially if it has tons of content and regardless of how many discs you have to swap.If pausing the game for a few seconds to swap discs is so frustrating then don't buy it or just rent it when you have nothing to do on the weekend.
c4v3man @ Jun 24th 2008 4:00AM
One thing I wish they'd bring back (in any racing game) would be the classy videos (marketing) for the exotic cars in the game (ala Need for Speed II). Watching those videos really made me drool back in the day, and I never understood why they don't do that anymore.

Excuse the music... but I still liked being able to see REAL cars, before playing with them. Made me appreciate them more.
Nathan @ Jun 24th 2008 4:24PM
I am guessing an install, but nothing major. Usually core data means everything the game/program needs to run and open anything related to it. Another disk could hold the other information a small file is they program it right. Heck, remember the Burnout Revenge car files? They were I believe like 70K each. They might be able to put 50 cars into a single data file of around 2MB. This would only work if the game was programed to read the files a certain way, and the files could hold the info the so they can effectively “share” common data so it doesn't need to be repeated for each design. Operating systems do this all the time. In Windows, there are files made just for this called DLL's. Any program can use a DLL, so the same code or file does not need to be on the drive multiple times. The MAC OS keeps a similar library, but I don't know exactly how or file types.
If they can make it so the data files can contain code instead of pictures that will drop the size as well. There are a lot of ways to fit a lot of information into a small file, the main program just has to know how to read and use it. If they need to install files using a second disk (which makes since for a racing game to me) then I would think they would do whatever they could to keep the file size as small as possible just for the people using MU's. Maybe offer a de-compressed version for HDD users depending on the space, but nothing insane.

I love playing forza II as of Aug. 31, I have all updates when are more cars, tracks, and I think they should have added a second have to the racing the next fifty levels. The thing I think is missing is no Drag Race events, no Ralley events, No up Hill events, etc... these are things they could add! Maybe I'm a dreamer!!! But some of the cars are best suited for Drag Racing like the Big Block!
