Gears 2 video straight from the UT3 disc

Well folks, the Gears 2 content that was promised to be on the final release disc of Unreal Tournament 3 for 360 has hit our inbox (despite the fact that game itself hasn't yet hit stores). Consisting of a mash-up of interview segments with the dev team and clips of gameplay, the behind the scenes video touches on everything from new game modes to player count to weapons. Heck, why are still reading this? Just watch the video already! Still reading? Well all that's left to really say is just how much of a bomb UT3 is likely to be, especially if the only thing enticing about it is this vid.

UT3 is the shit, only thing is controls are a little buggy but watching this vid off the disk in full HD was amazing.

Looking better with every video. I'm loving all the new features. The only concern I have is the rapid slow down on characters running whilst being shot at. Although Cliffy B Says the tactic of kamikaze running wasn't the game they invisioned originally I think that it worked well for the multiplayer experience in Gears1. Although they'll no doubt allay my worries as soon as the game hits and I get to play it. This is gonna be a GREAT game!!!!

I think it's Weblogs, Inc. I use Firefox and it's been happening to me all week as well. Sometime when you reply to a comment it places it under another comment instead.

Only thing that I'm kind of iffy about is the claymore idea.... Other than that looks AMAZING. Oh and did Cliffy say 7 game modes. Execution, Warzone, Wingman, Guardian, Meat Flag, and what else. Annex and maybe like a team slayer type game?

I'm getting UT3, no matter what. Considering I lost valuable years of my life to the drug that was UT99 and having a blast with UC2 on the old Xbox STILL...

Oh, what was this about? Gears 2? Meh. I don't care. Apart from the great cover mechanics and the boatloads of gore Gears wasn't that spectacular - especially with the rush-fest that is multiplayer.

So, what to expect from Gears 2? More gore? YAWN. Done to death. Food for 14-year-olds. And since Cliff said there'd be even less story in it, it probably will be a no-buy for me. Alright. rant over. And no, I'm no troll, thank you. I just happen to have my own opinion :-)

I don't know where you heard that there is gonna be even less story in Gears 2 in fact they hired a guy named Josh Ortega(who has written for comics like Spiderman, Batman and the KOTOR prequel for Dark Horse) to work on the story. THIS GAME WILL BE EPIC(PUN DEFINITELY INTENDED)

Uhm, you're entitled to your opinion but i've got to call you out on your ignorance. He said it will be LONGER then the previous gears campaign, he felt the first one was too short and they're expanding upon it. An opinion is fine but don't go around spreading false rumors, when many of us have read magazine interviews and seen video interviews that say otherwise.

Someone else said they're hiring a famous comic book writer, which is also true. So you can expect the story to be better then the first.

The thing is, I prefer UT to Gears BECAUSE it is fast-paced, frantic and old-school. I want the flashy beam weapons, since nowadays EVERY shooter seems to have only projectile type weapons, even if it's sci-fi (like Gears). And yes, I know that UT has it's share of bulletspitters as well, but I prefer the flak cannon to the lancer 9/10 times.

I want multiplayer where I don't have to wait up to five minutes after I kicked the bucket because someone insta-killed me with a grenade tag from behind.

I can live without the bucketfuls of gore and the executions (using a sniper rifle like a club? Goodbye accuracy!). What does that add to the game? IMHO, it does not make the game more grim, it's just laughably over the top, like a GWAR concert.

And by the way, I'm not bashing the game, I just said that I will probably not get it and stated the reasons for my decision. I even acknowledged that Gears 1 had a fantastic cover system - since when is that bashing? Let the SP campaign be twice the length of Gears 1 - that has the potential of twice the tedium that was "Belly Of The Beast". Watching all the footage here on X3F didn't magically make the game more compelling.

How can you call UT3 a bomb? You have not played the game, and apparently you have never played it's predecessors. You are a great example of the average console gamer. Hate the game that takes skill and call it terrible because the developers didn't make it noob friendly.

It's ok buddy, your opinion doesn't mean much anyways. Great job predicting one of the most skillful games to come out on the 360 to be a bomb. Wonder how many people that will turn away.

He's calling it a bomb because quite a lot of people will turn down UT3 on 360 because it has been out on PC and PS3 for a while now and it will not feature the mods that helped to make the game great in the first place. I know i'm probably not going to buy it because of this.

UT3 is an on crack fast paced shooter where even the noobiest of noobs will kill you sooner or later. I cant stand UT games.

GOWF ont he other hand is perfection. A blend of action with deep strategy. Send 1000 noobs my way in GOWF and they wont manage 1 kill. I love me my strategy, and strategic shooters are great, and also means im alot better at them then the no think kind.

I have to admit I was more than shocked to read your obviously biased UT comment. I'm also shocked that you are directly linking the video on your page. I realize you don't do the NDA thing, but this seems a little tasteless, even though we can all find it on YouTube if we wish.

On what are you basing this opinion? Surely not the trend of games tying in other game content. People were harping the same thing about Crackdown and the Halo 3 beta, but Crackdown was pretty universally vindicated on that subject. WotB: Commando --- same deal. I haven't heard any comments on the podcast (which I listen to weekly) regarding X3F checking out an early version, and unless I missed something on the site, I have to believe that someone here is more than a little biased against the Unreal series......

So I pose this question - What, exactly, are you basing this opinion upon? I'm no Unreal fanboy, please don't take this as such, but I'm legitimately confused and don't wish to lose respect for the journalistic integrity I always believed you and the X3F team stood for.

On the other hand, I'm not holding my breath for an answer. About six months ago you literally begged readers for questions, and when I sent one in concerning video game journalism and web writing, it was shelved while you answered fairly obvious questions about the Xbox on your fancast the next week.

I don't understand why he would even want to call it a bomb. First off, the profits of this game will most likely go towards the next gears game, allowing for a bigger budget which leads to a hopefully better game.

There was absolutely no reason to call it a bomb prematurely, other than to look like you know something, which you really don't

Nothing really new in the video, just going through the new maps/gamemodes/weapons that we already knew about, with some more footage of each.

Frags (and smoke grenades as well) look crazy overpowered now.

The lancer bullets slow the person down to an utter crawl with only a couple bullets.

The players also look weird running around with the way they hold the weapons now way up around their neck.

The flames on the scorcher look incredible, and so far it doesn't look overpowered as it seems to take a little while to down people. Honestly, it looked like the lancer downed people faster than it did.

You're right the Granades look way overpowered I mean Tagging sure but now smoke actually does something that can ensure a kill on a person hit by the grenade. now being able to use as mines even make it more cheap.

Well Lancer is ok still cheap but ok I'm hoping they don't remove the stun effect.

shotgun looks the same and act the same it and the lancer seem to have the quick executions out of the bunch can't wait to see boom,Hammer of dawn and Flamethrower executions.

The game was a bomb on PC and PS3 for something that used to be such a successful series. The worst version of the game coming out 6 months later doesn't scream 'buy me'.

At least Gears 2 seems fun.

It was a bomb on the PS3 only because the PS3 isn't very popular for shooters, and on the PC because of pirates (for the most part). I have UT3, UT2004, and have played all the past versions of UT, and I can tell you that UT3 is, overall, the best out of all of them.

Resistance and CoD4 have both sold over 2 million on PS3.

It was a bomb on PC, because it was a dumbed down console game, plus there was CoD4, Crysis and Orange Box as competition.

By neglecting the PC fanbase, Epic made a subpar game and thus no one cared about the minimal changes it brought to the playing field.

Unreal Tournament III like Unreal Championship (on xbox(1) and Quake 4 (and Quake 3 Arena on Dreamcast) are oldschool Arcade Deatmatch Shooters on Steroids.
Some people like, some people don't, some people are really passionate about them, most people perceive them as oldschool, not next-gen.

I am 1 of the passionate 1s (freaky he?), I love a good engine that's fast and stable and fair. I love the smell of rockets in the morning, I like the gib, the blood, the kills, the energy of it all. I get exited only thinking about it. It's fast, you have 2 react even faster, it becomes something like a drug: U get high playing it, all the little chemicals your brain makes 2 coop/survive in the online Arena of Death. Just loving it.

You R true when U think it will probably bomb, because Quake 4 on x360 did the same. This isn't a game 4 everyone (allthough it is actually: very accessable/easy 2 get in 2), most people will go back playing CoD4/Halo3/Gears. I dont care, the hardcore will still B there, we will still B having the most fun we guys can ever get. Hell I still play Q4 DM (almost 3 years since it came out on x360, it was a launchgame remember?), even though hardly any1 new gives us a visit and it's really really quite online these days.
So glad U can send friendrequests 2 those players that do visit us, so you can invite them in and have a party.

By saying it will bomb U have a point, but it wasnt really nice 2 say be4hand, just give it a chance, review the damn game and then let us know how U really think about it.

UTIII got a few new supporters/friends on PS3. Why? Because a lot of players would not even consider buying this game (oldschool non-nextgen gameplay bla bla etc), but because of the almost non-existence of good new games coming out on PS3 (at that time) and the UTIII game getting nice reviews (: the UE3 engine was ported over 2 PS3 in a very good way (stable, pretty, fast)). So it sold a lot more than expected, and got some new addicts in the process.

We x360 owners have the luxury(problem?) of having shitloads of quality good games coming out all the time so our choice for this title might and probably will B not that enthuastic.

Anyway, felt like I needed 2 reply and show all the fraggers and their beloved fragfestfantastic games a bit of love, we R a dying race, we R niche, we will probably go extint 1 day (everybody only playing/living MMORPG's in next 5/10 years), but untill that day let's let every1 know we love these games and would like new players 2 join in (if only 4 the cheap frags we can make of it, lol, nah, U R Welcome!)
