It looks like the promised early preview copies of Too Human have started to arrive, as we're now being flooded with new video from the game as well as previews from both Wired and MTV's Multiplayer. Joystiq has gone to the trouble of summing up both previews. We recommend reading both previews if you have the time. Having read the previews, the reaction definitely seems to be a mixed one. Both previews note that the game is very short, clocking in at around 10 hours, and that the cliffhanger ending doesn't live up to the rest of the game, with Wired's Chris Kohler noting noting that there was "not nearly enough payoff for all the story exposition." What story is present is apparently well told though, and, more importantly, the gameplay is reportedly very solid, as MTV's Steven Totilo notes the game "has the potential to win fans of pure play."
That said, Kohler notes that the game can be played again using the same character and that the game will be repopulated with more challenging enemies and remixed levels. From the sound of both previews, Too Human will find a home with fans of dungeon crawlers who intend to play through multiple times and get the best loot, but may suffer with those who only intend to play through once in order to enjoy the story. Frankly, we'd settle for a good dungeon crawl on the 360. We'll have to wait and see if the game delivers when the reviews start showing up in August.
In the meantime, enjoy some more Too Human footage after the break.

10 hours is plenty long for what is an ACTION rpg. If the game is supposed to be most closely related to Diablo. Then 10 hour story sounds generous. I don't remember playing Diablo for it's story (what was that game about?) I'm sure I will enjoy the story but we all know it's the twitch play combat and loot lust that will keep you coming back. Good story is only a bonus in this type of game.
i agree 10 hours is actually alot considering the last batch of games did not last nearly that long.bad company 4 hours.vegas 2 6 hours.these games can be played online but the singleplayer have no replay, atleast too human has some.
Microsoft rumored to slash Xbox 360 price Whispers of $50 price cut swirled on popular gaming blogs last week By Jennifer Martinez Reuters updated 10:57 a.m. ET, Tues., July. 1, 2008
LOS ANGELES - Microsoft Corp, plans to cut the price of its best-selling Xbox 360 Pro model by $50, to $299 in the next few weeks, the Hollywood Reporter reported citing anonymous sources.
(MSNBC is a joint Microsoft - NBC Universal venture.)
The price cut for the Xbox 360 model with the 20 gigabyte hard drive will come before the video game industry's biggest trade show, E3, taking place in Los Angeles on July 15-17, the report said.
Umm since when is nerdy bad. Nerd is in or did you not get the memo. "Buddhism" + "Old Western Story telling" + "Space Monsters" = "Super Nerdy" = "Star Wars"
Unique mythos always seem foreign at first but eventually they just become familiar.
every time i read about this game i got so excited, but was very skeptical about the animations, controls and general gameplay mechanics.
after seeing videos of the game in action, it was a little underwhelming because the animations were sort of lame. however, when i thought into this game's style, i realized it is supposed to be a multiplayer 3D RPG beat em up with an actual story.
think of the best games in this genre like streets of rage and teenage mutant ninja turtles with RPG elements, different classes, and a 10+ hour storyline.
I played those games over and over, with my friends and brothers, so I can only immagine the replayability of this game.
I think he was talking about the in game cinematics. for some reason they just dont look very good. The fight scene from the games intro on gametrailers just doesnt look that great. You can see the ideas are in there, they just cant execute them with the engine. The gameplay looks smooth, and thats good enough for me.
I might be spoiled from playing metal gear though.
Why are people saying 10 hours is too short? 5 character classes that all play differently, many different permutations of skills, co-op play, tons of loot to be gathered, and a story you can play through again to level your character to max all add a great amount of re-play. Compare this to nearly any other game out there and its replay value/length is just as good if not better. And different previews mentioned different lengths of time for completion/mid-game.
I'm still loving the looks of this one- I love dungeon crawlers like BD: Dark Alliance and Dungeon Siege. And who doesn't like fooling around with inventory, armor and weapons? Mayhaps those folk should get a new hobby.
10hrs!? I'm getting tired of game focusing more on graphics then gameplay. The reason I play games is to devote some time into playing games. 60 bucks for a game is pretty expensive these days, and it the game only gives you 10 hours of gameplay... forget it. The main reason I enjoyed Bioshock was for it's lengthy gameplay. I'm really looking forward, but knowing that it's only 10 hours long. I say screw it!
But Bioshock could be completed in about 12 hours, had no multiplayer, and you played the same character everytime. I realize it did have replay value through randomly spawning enemies and different uses of powers, but those are things that Too human will have as well.
I have had the feeling for a while now that sites like xbox360fanboy are visited mostly by 8-12 year olds. The majority of opinions read like a child having a trantrum. The game looks awesome, a great touch is how the score swells as the battle gets more intense and gives you that big battle feeling.
Graphics dont make a game enjoyable, good gameplay does and having a game last long just for the sake of it just makes it boring and tedious to get to the end.
And what game is not repetitive, what did you do in Gears, COD4 and the hyped Bioshock? Just because its currently fashionable to be against Dyack and Too Human doesnt mean you have to be a lemming and go along with the bashing.

They are releasing a lot of media for this game. Almost too much.

This all but seals it. When MSNBC is reporting the rumor it's basically confirmed.

Only a complete nerd would think that "Crawling in a dungeon" + "Norse Mythology" + "Science Fiction" = "Good times"

I don't think the animations are stiff. I think there is a lot to being in the groove in this game. Look at the end of this video:

I was a little worried about this game, however the more I see it the more I love it.
It is an incredibly nerdy premise, but who cares? Pretty much every other type of game has been done, at least this is different.

May have to play this as a warm up for Diablo 3 :)
T-BoNe254 @ Jul 1st 2008 6:24PM
yeah, even tho Diablo 3 will poop on this game :)
but 10 hr really? I'm just renting in that case...

I know you got the story via Joystiq, but there a ton of previews available for this game. Most of these previews are positive about this game.
