Ninja Gaiden 2 gets patched, sorta
When most games get patched or auto-updated, we at least have a few words from the developers about what changes the patch entails. Especially if the game in question has a myriad of technical problems that we know have not all been solved. So, to turn on a 360 and see Ninja Gaiden 2 auto-update without any news from Team Ninja, Tecmo or Microsoft feels a bit strange. Though we do know Team Ninja and Tecmo have a lot on their plates at the moment, if they had time to work on a patch, surely they had time to send out a few press releases? But we digress, any patch is better than no patch for a game that seems to run in bullet time for some bits (Chp 10's stairs) and the tubes have not let us down in their observations of some of the patches effects (though we'd've preferred official word). The game-breaking glitch seems to be solved and any old "broken" saves can now be continued. The speed run leaderboards are now actually updated each subsequent time you beat your best time, instead of just sticking with your first score forever. And while the major technical problems such as slowdown haven't really been addressed, we're glad that the game is actually beginning to approach what it should have been upon release. Here's hoping we'll see more patches as time goes on ...

Yeah, but chapter 10 stairs... You end that fight feeling like a god, especially using fully upgraded claws.
4 frames per second just means you can see more of the actions!

That is so true I felt like a god after beating that part with the claws. I really dont think I would of done as good if it would of been running smooth.

Eclipse Scythe's UT works well, but if anything it gets too easy since spamming the UT will take out anyone running down the stairs. Still, the amounts of mansplosions following are sploderific.
Anyway, good to see the glitch is gone, although I haven't experienced it myself. I guess Tecmo and Team Ninja still have enough love to make sure their game has some DLC and patches.

if any thing never patch the stair i thought it was part of the game.
in your first playthrough that is a fun part
Logan @ Jul 6th 2008 3:42AM
Wait, that stair part isnt supposed to be slow? That was actually my very favorite part of the whole game! I loved being able to slow down the animations and see the detail in every move. That part was pure extasy to play, and I still have a save right before that point so I can go back and do it again and again.

Yea must admit i found playing the stairs easy, the slow down didnt make it harder, just gave you more time to prepare in the fight. Still, would be nice not to have it!!

When are they going to patch it to include trophies?
NukeAssault @ Jul 4th 2008 9:06PM
Good one. XD
Xav de Matos @ Jul 4th 2008 9:11PM
I see what you did there.
MaxSterling @ Jul 4th 2008 11:37PM
What was the game breaking glitch?
ninpo @ Jul 5th 2008 4:58AM
i think it was on chp 10 where you would fight the worms in a room and if you died and reloaded, they wouldn't appear anymore and you couldn't advance further through the stage

Hopefully they'll release a Hurricane Pack that will fix the other bugs in the game; i.e, the entire game.

Words such as yours and the articles author usually come from skilless gamers who find NG "too hard".
'Course, I also know you're a troll, so I guess it doesn't matter.

@Knight Marquise:
Isn't that just the way things go. For some reason, whenever someone complains about Ninja Gaiden 2 game, everyone immediately retaliates with the same old tired "you just suck and therefore your opinion is wrong" comment.
There are actually a lot of NGB and NGS fans who are incredibly disappointed with NG2, to the point where some think it's beyond repair.
The problems are most evident on Mentor and Master Ninja mode. Blocking becomes useless due to all the unblockable grab moves, 99% of your combos become useless due to all the projectiles interrupting them, and you'll find yourself spamming the same few moves (Izuna Drop, Guillotine Throw, UTs, OTs, Flying Swallow, and Y,Y,Y with the Lunar or Scythe) for the entire game.
So yeah, depending on who you ask, some people DO legitimately think that NG2 needs a complete rehaul. Whether or not that's even possible (considering the current state of affairs at Tecmo) is the question.

Blocking will never become useless in the game, if you get caught with the unblockable throws, which were also in NGB btw ( no change in NG2 therefore no complaints from faithful followers), your not moving fast enough. The only thing different about the incin shurikens is that your cant jump Y downslice/smash to nullify the damage, which was an exploit that is rightfully fixed in my opinion. the key to avoiding this problem is to keep them down w/ izuna throws into the mass of them and pick them off one at a time. The game's only major flaw from NGB is the new camera, which is substantially worse than NGB's was, and even then its only every once in a while you can't fix it by RT. People who think the entire game is flawed simply dont appreciate the control system that allows you to do absolutely anything with ryu, and are often DMC faithful that dont want to put the time in to become good at the game.
