Airplanes in Burnout Paradise?
As Criterion Games wraps up development on the soon-to-be-released Cagney update for Burnout Paradise, the team is already experimenting with what future updates could bring to the title. Previously announced bikes, night-time driving and a new island have been revealed as key additions coming to the game but now Criterion has revealed the team is experimenting with airplanes. Continuing the developer's admiration for high speed, planes could be an interesting addition to the series but it doesn't appear that anything is set in stone just yet.
Until then we'll make do with the 3 new online modes, 70 online timed challenges, ranked racing improvements and live updates page all releasing for free with the Cagney update, which has been pushed to July 14.

I am gonna buy the games they release just because they care so much about us gamers. Burnout Paradise is gonna buy inside my PS3 when Cagney comes out. They have extended the lifetime Burnout Paradise with their coming updates and also have shown they care about us. They have earned my respect and I will continue to buy their games in the future because I know they will not charge me money for horse armor. Criterion, you have my respect.

Airplanes... in Burnout?
I wonder if there will be any "John Denver" achievements... maybe "9/11 Flashback"?
Tyler @ Jul 5th 2008 6:18PM
haha why is a ps3(or psp) theme wallpaper used as the pic for this?
Xav de Matos @ Jul 5th 2008 6:24PM
i liked the image, it's still a burnout promotional pic though
RockerAnimeFreak @ Jul 5th 2008 6:34PM
YAY! now we can crash planes! (this is gonna get ugly lol)
CharleyTony @ Jul 5th 2008 7:14PM
I dont see how they could fit planes into dlc but if they manage to do it, Wow !!!
I think that Criterion is leading the way not only for ways to support games after their release but also in helping EA (slowly) change their image.
They kept their identity while being part of that huge company and they seem to be able to do things their way...
We can only hope that things will turn out the same way with additions like Bioware and Pandemic as well as other DEVs that have been under the EA logo.
Still can't figure out why EA closed EA Chicago... yes Def Jam Icon didnt sell well but did earlier Def Jam titles sell more ? These were the guys that made Fight Night Round 3; Being shut down one flop after such a hit is kinda ridiculous.
EA really needs to encourage independant tought and ideas and not force bad sequels if they expect good things to come out.

I'm serious. And don't call me Shirley.

Anticrawl @ Jul 5th 2008 8:20PM
Damn yous, I wanted to say it.
xenocidic @ Jul 5th 2008 10:40PM
well you can still say it /properly/ if you like. you're not supposed to contract the "I am" part.

I agree with the above comments. While I'm not really all that happy with the free-roaming nature of Burnout in Paradise (I preferred 3 and Revenge) and they totally gimped Crash mode, I have to give them a ton of credit for continuing to support their game for such a long time and more importantly, releasing such high quality content for free.
run n gun 26 @ Jul 5th 2008 7:52PM
i majorly lol'd!
run n gun 26 @ Jul 6th 2008 1:28PM
damn it! i was replying to rawnzilla. stupid comment system!
bigC24 @ Jul 5th 2008 8:30PM
Stupid. How far do they want to stray from an actual racing game?
offday @ Jul 6th 2008 11:25AM
It's not stupid. It's awesome. Burnout was far from an "actual" racing game for as long as the series has been around. Actual racing games suck. They're boring. I can actually drive a real actual car, so why would I want to play an "actual" racing game. Boring.
bigC24 @ Jul 6th 2008 12:49PM
Burnout Revenge on the 360 was a superb racing title. It combined fast speed and dangerous tracks to create a fantastic racing experience. Burnout Takedown did the same.
I was top 20 in the world in both titles, and it's frustrating (for me) to see these games take a turn towards just messing around in the open world, as opposed to fast and exciting racing...like it used to be.
josearoldan @ Jul 5th 2008 10:57PM
And I have just found the excuse to buy this game!
luigi @ Jul 6th 2008 1:32AM
This was announced way back in April

Jazza @ Jul 6th 2008 5:16AM
I was just about to post the same. It's strange it's taken so long for this to appear. Although, they did also say it probably wouldn't appear in the game.
Gus @ Jul 6th 2008 1:28PM
If they put in planes, I would buy it- the game I mean, not the update... but I would buy the update too.
YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!
Ryan @ Jul 6th 2008 1:31PM
I love Criterion.
I think Burnout Paradise sold "ok", not great, and this is the way they are trying to give the game some legs, by flooding it with high quality DLC over a whole year. It's a fantastic approach.
And they are the Kings of cross-platform development too, they make everyone else look dumb in this regard.
Brian @ Jul 6th 2008 3:02PM
I can't wait to hear what our favorite / soon-to-be-disbarred lawyer is going to say about this!
Gemini Ace @ Jul 7th 2008 8:06AM
I just want to know why they're going out of their way to crap all over this franchise.
wickedpheonix @ Jul 8th 2008 10:52AM
yes please!!! I dont get back to the US until August 1st but Cagney and the anticipation of all the new features soon to come is going to be sweet!
