Infinity Ward rewarded with new IP
When the rumor went around that the next Call of Duty from Infinity Ward would be going sci-fi, there was some who said that the described game might be an entirely new IP. We still don't know about the sci-fi part yet, but the new IP part looks pretty solid. Their deal with Activision was renegotiated (they 've got enough clout to do that these days) to give them a chance to do "a unique new IP by Infinity Ward, that we'll have complete control over."[Via Joystiq]

Amagad Infinity Ward is Getting a New IP address? D:
Really, what do you mean by IP >_>
Kevin Gass @ Jul 7th 2008 10:27PM
It means they get to make a brand new game in a new universe. Not a sequel or rehash of another series
Brave @ Jul 7th 2008 10:31PM

Intellectual Property.

I believe IP = Intellectual Property

No offense but Activision no longer means, quality game maker to me. They gobble up game developers just to reap the cash. In my books Activision is only hurting the gaming business by forcing game developers to make games to make money, which only kills Gaming as an art form. I hope the future isnt riddle by Game companies buying/selling other game companies just to show the world that they can make more money with one good idea, then soil the market with constant sequals and other garbage

I'd say EA is a bigger offender in this regard. I don't even know what other games Activision releases sequels to on a regular basis besides COD (it's not that I'm dumb, it's just that I don't care).
Game makers are in this to make money by creating great, engaging games. Games as art is a boring argument. Let some d-bag in 200 years sort out if it's art or not. At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter for jack shit. Just play and enjoy it.

Have you ever heard of Guitar Hero?
I think with the recent annoucnements...it'll be 4 Guitar Hero Titles in a 12 month period (On Tour for DS, Aerosmith, Metallica, and GH IV: World Tour)
In addition, they more or less just stole the work Harmonix did once the GH series was big enough, and decided to do with an in-house developer.
EA is not alone anymore. No, Activision has joined its ranks.

to El Capitaine:
Oh, that game series everyone blathers on about all the time. Yeah, I generally just ignore that one since I kinda find it all a bit annoying. I understand a ton of people love GH and that's fine, but I think it'll go the way of DDR in a couple years after they oversaturate the market.
Pumping out lackluster sequels is somewhat understandable from some developers because of the immense costs that go into producing a game. Not saying it's a good thing, but it's a shitload of money to gamble on their part.

Good, IW is a great company. I look forward to see what they are going to bring to the market.
Anticrawl @ Jul 8th 2008 2:11AM
Hopefully their next game is good, not a rehash of COD2 with sprinting and gimmicy perks.
Rick @ Jul 8th 2008 9:10AM
Yeah, that COD4 sure was a stinker...oh wait. WTF? Rehash? Are you mental?
Anticrawl @ Jul 8th 2008 11:37AM
Clearly you are blinded by fanboy devotion to IW then. It was a WWII shooter without the WWII setting. There was nothing modern about the game except a few modern day guns. Modern Warfare was in the title, which makes the whole game terrible in my book. The one thing the game promised it failed on. Not a damn thing modern about the combat or “warfare.”

Can't wait to see whay they unveil. I'm very confident they won't disappoint.
