New Fallout 3 screens and details
In a second fan Q&A over at Bethesda, Todd Howard has answered a collection of fan questions taken from the forums. The questions asked range from armor and inventory to children, non-human creatures and more. Check the list below for a quick run down. Oh, and Todd also released a few new screens too.
- Armor sets come in two pieces, body and head
- Inventory limit is based on weight
- Children and essential NPC's are unkillable
- Good/Evil karma system relating to in-game choices
- Crimes committed against specific groups are known to all in the group throughout the game world
- NPC's navigate via a mesh instead of via a point to point system like in Oblivion and Morrowind
- Like Oblivion the game uses a skill list and those skills determine maximum possible effectiveness in battle
Gallery: Fallout 3
- Faces are customizable, but not bodies
- The player can crouch and sneak around
- Many of the old Fallout traits return, only now as skill perks
- Fast travel is only available to places you've been before
- Not all non-humans are hostile: "some can be reasoned with and even hired."
- Player "perception" functions like the Oblivion compass

I heard that you can shoot peoples legs off with a submachine gun!!! How AWESOME is thT!!

SA VZ61 "Scorpion" (also in COD4 and MGS 3) is a submachine gun btw lol. I think thats the gun in the picture, but I could be wrong.

Wow. Should I be more or less scared about the transition now? Bullet points like those make it seem like Oblivion 1.5 with a touch of post-apocalypse and not a Fallout game.

" You will find lots of junk as you progress through the game which can be converted via schematic diagrams to create what we've been promised will be amazingly powerful weapons."

Damn, one of my proudest moments was managing to finish Fallout 1 *as* a child killer. When you did that *nobody* in the game liked you. Nobody. :)
Niko_Bellic @ Jul 8th 2008 12:34AM
In the GAME nobody liked you? Oh i see :)
P7 @ Jul 8th 2008 12:38AM
I suspect the results would be the same in real life ;) Maybe even harder to finish that game.

Can't wait to get my hands on this game, they are trembling.
Although the head and body armour thing...hmm, no gloves or trousers?
JHTM @ Jul 8th 2008 12:21PM
i believe that the orig fallout games 1, 2 and tactics were simply one set of armor - I THINK anyhow, i agree though it would be cool.
Personally i cant wait for this game - who like me remembers the time the Fallout 1 demo came out for the PC and you shot someone for the first time with the sub machine gun and you got the awesome execution annimation ??? i mean come on how cool was that !!!
the key to this games success is how it translates into the 1st and 3rd person environment and how well the turn based - esque VATS systems turns out. Personally i cant see why anyone would want to play this game in FPS - i find that viewpoint old hat now and wouldnt do Fallout's art justice - i mean we all want to see our avatar in his shiny vault 101 boiler suit right ?? ;)
hopefully bethesda deliver a quality game like oblivion - my money is on them delivering and delivering big !! then again i am majorly biased towards the fallout IP

Yes please.
