*Sigh* More Newton motion control rumors ...
Sure Microsoft may have gone back on their "we do not comment on rumors and speculation" policy to debunk the Banjo -> Newton connection, but they didn't go so far as to declare that there isn't a motion controller at all. Over at xbox360oz, they claim that the latest copy of Xbox360World magazine has an inside source that then claims that not only is the project real, but that it also uses tech from a company that already makes motion controllers.
This is all quite tenuous and feels like grasping at straws, but it's some interesting food for thought. The Motus "Darwin" controller does make sense as a starting point for a company looking to match the Wii. In fact, the company website mentions the Wii in comparison to its product quite often, and has several news stories running along its bottom that deal with the ol' 360 Newton rumors. Evidence? Of course not. Curious? Definitely.
Get here already E3! We need all these speculations and rumors to end, interesting as they all may be.

Why do they have all those stories running on the crawl about the rumors, as well as legit articles about the company? So it's really true...
Dr Dmoney @ Jul 9th 2008 9:36PM
The only way for Microsoft to get this to work is to have it work for all existing games and ones to come. I really dought they can pull it off.... I don't think it is a bad idea, i just don't want what the wii did. All games use motion controls, i wanted a choice between them, so my wii is sitting in my closet.
killploki @ Jul 10th 2008 10:58AM
i think they could pull it off it it comes bundled with a game that uses it. It wouldnt be that much different from having plastic guitars and drum set in my living room to play 1 game.
As long as its fun and it works good i wouldnt mind it, for the right game....but i never want to be forced to use something like this for cod or halo.
Etchasketchist @ Jul 10th 2008 12:29PM
Exactly. Like how I can play Halo with my Guitar Hero guitar. That's the ONLY way this is going to work!
Tony @ Jul 9th 2008 10:02PM
My personal thought is that the rumors down there don't hurt them, they simply make it look like there's a ton of interest in "motion control" from companies aside from Nintendo... meaning more reasons to invest in their technology.
I don't take it as confirmation.
Lewis (GT: StoneRevolver) @ Jul 9th 2008 9:46PM
screw newton, wheres ma lips?
lips lips lips lips lips.

I think that guy is playing "reach-around 9000" He is on level 7, where you successfully have to satisfy a black man.
BananaBoat @ Jul 9th 2008 10:21PM
Motion control annoys me to no end. For instance, in Metal Gear Solid 4 (possible spoiler ahead) you have to shake your controller to beat Mantis, and to tell you that you need to shake your controller, a gigantic image of a PS3 controller pops up on the screen and literally makes the motion it wants you to do. Really great for immersion. Serious games need to keep the motion controls out. That said, I hope Microsoft won't put out a motion control controller, so that if nothing else, I won't have to hear bawwwwing from Sony fanboys about how Microsoft rips off all of Sony's ideas (they are too far gone to remember that Sony ripped off Nintendo in that department)
Isak? @ Jul 9th 2008 10:44PM
That has got to be the most phallic picture I've ever seen on a gaming blog.

You seem so happy about it. Congrats on the win.
BigLou16 @ Jul 10th 2008 7:20PM
the only way they can make money off of this is if they already have games in the making for it, other than that, it will be just a waste of time and money
John @ Jul 9th 2008 11:48PM
That looks horrible to me. Maybe if they broke into two seperate controllers?
Meh...personally one of the reasons I enjoy my 360 so much is because it has a "classic/regular/whatever" controller that's been around for three generations now. If I wanted motion sensing controlls, I would have bought a Wii...and I did (day it released)...and I haven't played it since the day Brawl came out.
But to each his own. If the rumor is true, I'll be playing with my standard 360 controller.
Mechanical @ Jul 10th 2008 12:57AM
Actually, if you go to their site and poke around, you'll see that it does in fact, split apart.
Kinda cool either way, I think.
Dwag @ Jul 10th 2008 1:57AM
Is MS serious if this gets released I might as well go back to play my PS3 for ever and never look at that thing again.
Dwag @ Jul 10th 2008 2:12AM
Does MS realize that they don't need this I mean they don't need this at all they are doing just fine you don't need a motion control to attract casuals you need games that appeal to them. MS stick to LIVE and make that the best thing it could be I mean a Myspace/Facebook type thing would be great.
Cameron Adams @ Jul 10th 2008 5:52AM
The only, and I mean ONLY way I could see this being cool is for it to be able to split in two, allowing greater and more intuitive motion feedback and for it to be cheap and work with existing and future games with a CHOICE for it to be used.
Otherwise, fuck off, I didn't buy my 360 for this.
vidGuy @ Jul 10th 2008 7:17AM
True motion control is great and the stuff of our gaming future. Unfortunately, there's a large amount of trial and error to be done - thus about 90% of what's out there for the Wii is poorly done waggle.
Trust me, a RE5 with RE4:Wii Edition type motion controls/aiming would be very cool.
DJcube @ Jul 10th 2008 7:41AM
Australia gets Xbox360World around two months late - this issue included.
MDJ2010 @ Jul 10th 2008 8:48AM
I really hope MS don't go in this direction for the 360. I just get the impression that most peoples attitude would be 'if I want motion controls then I'll get a Wii' - As Cameron Adams says above, I didn't buy my 360 for this.
Gemini Ace @ Jul 10th 2008 8:52AM
This looks like it splits into to controllers. Probably in a similar configuration as the Wii-mote/nunchuck. There are rumors that Sony is working on a controller that breaks apart to different configurations.
Personally, I'll stick with my Wii for this kind of stuff. Nintendo did it first, and will do it better. Their first party games are second to none. Anyone who's played Galaxy can attest to that.
Deus Legend @ Jul 10th 2008 9:38AM
Motion controls=gimmic
Aero @ Jul 10th 2008 10:06AM
If they do make a motion controller, it's going to go the same way as the vision cam and the big button pad. One or two games will use it then you'll never hear of it again.
LV426 @ Jul 11th 2008 9:15AM
I like this... and I can only hope this supports XP and Vista... the library crosses over too much for me to want a 360 per se... but Id LOVE to have more options to use this kind of thing in FPS games!
And to everyone getting upset fanboy style... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
Ryan @ Jul 10th 2008 11:01AM
I don't know, i like the idea of an "attachable" set of motion controllers... if it's cool it'll be popular, and if not it'll fail on its own merits... don't see the big deal really.
My biggest problem with the Wii is the console itself, not the controllers. So I like this.
Hak @ Jul 10th 2008 11:12AM
a while ago during last year people were screeeaaaming for a wii60, it seems you peoples have a different mindset
these days, human beings are the strangest creatures ever created.....
Gemini Ace @ Jul 10th 2008 11:41AM
You mean evolved.
Hak @ Jul 10th 2008 12:33PM
I meant created, because I'm pretty sure our distant primate cousins didn't want to end up being this fickle minded.......
pibs @ Jul 10th 2008 11:42AM
looks like if a lightsaber had sex with a back massager.
Edward @ Jul 10th 2008 12:12PM
so, i was watching the video for this motus controller and the guy in the video is the same i guy i see everyday on my way home, I'm going to ask him what the deal is....WOOT! this is kind of exciting!
Trogdor @ Jul 10th 2008 12:09PM
I don't understand why people are so opposed to this. MS will not force you to use this to play Halo, or any future games like that.
Why shouldn't MS make a controller that a 4 year old can use to play a game? This, coupled with a $249 Arcade would be better than the Wii if they could get more family friendly games for it. We all know how hugely successful the Wii is, so it's a smart move.
MS has been trying to get a foothold in the casual/family gaming market and this is the best way to do it. Make it approachable for people who've never used a controller with 10+ buttons before.
FuzzyLabRat @ Jul 10th 2008 1:06PM
I too am confused why everyone is so very much against this sort of concept. If anything, I think that this could spark a little innovation from both Nintendo and Microsoft -- one does a certain motion control better, a new way of using it etc.
I don't see how you can be forced to use it on existing games, and doubt you HAVE to use it anywhere. I can play RB/GH with a gamepad if I so choose (albeit i don't want to).
Then again, I also bought the Live Vision Camera. I'll be enjoying Live Messenger video chat from my couch here within the year I bet...
DJcube @ Jul 10th 2008 8:46PM
Ah. Looks like this thing is actually getting made. But as it's a totally 3rd party affair (like that one for the PS2) I'll never be properly supported by any game.
