E3 XBLA release is ... Coffeetime Crosswords? [update]
You know, ever since Microsoft released DOOM in the middle of X06, we've become used to the idea that we should expect some killer games during big events. Last year's E3 gave us Golden Axe and Sonic the Hedgehog. During GDC this year, Microsoft released demos of XNA Community Games, including the highly anticipated XBLA release Dishwasher: Dead Samurai. Naturally, we were really fired up to see what would happen during E3 next week. So, what are we getting? Coffeetime Crosswords. Yes, SRSLY. Other than that, there will be free Buku Sudoku DLC and Puzzle Quest is joining Arcade Hits at the reduced price of 800 MS Points (a 400 point cut).
Barring any surprises, it's looking like the tradition has been broken.
Update: Looks like we might be getting another XBLA game after all.

Have to ask, is the coffee HOT?

I seriously hope this is a joke. Here's hoping they surprise us with Castle Crashers or dare I say it....Duke Nukem 3D. It could happen, you never know.
Birdshake @ Jul 11th 2008 4:31PM
We can only hope.

wheeee.... still to much for puzzle quest.
Darkharmony @ Jul 11th 2008 8:20PM
I loved puzzle quest, it was a great price before and a better price now. It would be nice if the expansion for puzzle quest came out with the price reduction but that certainly isn't going to happen.

This has to be a smokescreen, it seems like they could have easily switched last weeks arcade releases and this weeks to at least put out something interesting on the arcade during E3. Not an overpriced crossword game.

Well, I guess you never know if there will be a second release.
Nothing ever really replicated DOOM for me, in following years. I really wish they'd put up Doom II already.

guys guys relax. how many games usually come out on a wednesday? 2. how many did they just announce? 1. and given they probably know this won't penetrate all that well, there's definately one or two more a-coming. :)
Afro Thunder @ Jul 11th 2008 4:42PM
It could/should have been Castle Crashers, it could have been Bionic Commando, it could even have been Duke Nukem 3D...but no, it's a game you get with the morning paper. What goes through people's heads when they collectively approve such ridiculous games?
These guys need to be kicked in the arse by the armored boot of common sense.

I bet you all 10 bucks this wont even have chat pad support.
Paper games are never fun (as a video game), and should not be made into video games. Perhaps they should, but only if the element is used in some sort of other bigger gameplay mechanic. Like having to solve a word when you reach a section of an adventure game, etc etc. But alone they all just play out really lame, because you can just use a pen and paper to do the same thing.
So no more sodoku, crosswords, word searches, connect the dots, paint by colours tic tac toe or mazes please.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Jul 11th 2008 5:15PM
Nah, it's a joke. Look for Duke Nukem 3D to be the surprise.. Wait for it.
Aero @ Jul 11th 2008 6:51PM
There's a chance that there'll be another game that Microsoft might announce in their conference and so don't want to ruin the surprise that.
Or there's a chance that they don't want Castle Crashers or any other game to overshadow their conference.
Dirty Whirlwind @ Jul 11th 2008 8:33PM
I'm guessing we'll see Geometry Wars 2 as a surprise announcement this Monday. We know its coming, the achievements are leaked (so it has most likely gone through the certification process and is ready to be uploaded) and E3 should be the perfect occasion to bring up the sequel to one of Live Arcades finest and best selling title.

I know that almost everyone thinks this is going to fail, and such. But i think in a somewhat strange aspect. THIS IS BRILLIANT.
