GoW2: Day-One revealed, bots confirmed and more

Coming straight from last night's airing of GameTrailer TV's pre-E3 episode of exclusiveness comes a truckload of new Gears of War 2 information. The two biggest announcements are the revel of a new multiplayer map called Day-One and confirmation that Gears 2 multiplayer will in fact support multiplayer bots. Oh yeah.

The Day-One map takes place on the city streets where a ginormous emerge hole has opened up smack dab in the middle of the map where an angry Seeder will pop out. And when he does, watch it, because it causes mini-earthquake. Also, Cliff confirmed with Geoff Keighley that Gears 2 will in fact support AI controlled bots in multiplayer, very similar to bots that are oh so prevalent in the Unreal Tournament series.

Other snippets of information that we've gathered from the 20+ minute episode include mention that the execution move where a player's arms are ripped off and then get pummel with them, well, sadly that move has been cut from the game (probably too violent for the ESRB or something). Though, we do also learn that the Subway map will be making a return, Centaur tanks will be playable including an active reload option, the campaign takes place six months after the original Gears and Cliff heavily hints at a Locust Queen boss battle as well as a sequence where you'll actually be mounting a Brumak. Oh, there are also going to be an exclusive set of red Gears of War 2 Xbox 360s released as promo items. Now sit back and get your watch on ...

bots would be nice. for once i can enjoy the multiplayer in a game without my opponents trying to find new ways to cheat or glitch in 90% of every other game i play.

It depends on how smart the bots are. If it turns out that the AI is just dumb as shit, then it might not be worth it. If the AI is atleast some what intelligent, then it may be.

I'll take "Bot retarded" over "generic Live user retarded" any day. Plus it'll even out our teams if one of my crew has to take care of a sick child or something.

I enjoy bots. They can never be like a human. For these reasons, I love mastering the bot. especialy wqith a friend. This means getting so good at their patterns, or tricking them so you can take on numbers. I still remember playing me and a friend vs 10 dark sims in pd64 while we would trick them all into running into our laptop gun infested trap room. :p. Or playing starcraft with all the comps vs you and outsmarting them with your base defense. I hope to do the same here. Me and a friend vs 8 ultra hard bots in GOW2 until we find a strategy to beat them easily.

Just watched this in HD. This game is going to be sick! I can not fuckin wait. If you havent, watch this in HD instead of standard.

Fallout 3, what type of game is that? Ive never heard of or played Fallout or Fallout 2.

Fallout 3 is kind of a RPG-Action game that takes place after a nuclear war, where everyone is forced to live underground and crazy mutants roam the surface.

It's by the same guys who make Oblivion. And it actually sounds a lot like Oblivion only minus the fantasy world.

Fallout 1 and 2 were oldschool games on the PC back in the 90s . . .

Only Pc Junkies played them, like me :]

Can't wait for this going to be to sweet and Offday you got own when you complained about bots their there for convenience like if your Xbox Live Gold ran out you can play with bots . . . or none of your friend are playing Gears 2 and you dont want risk getting matching the singing, ranting a**holes over Live just start a bot match . . . and I've seen the bots in action and i didn't even think they were bots untill i noticed some guy in the comments saying "hard to believe their bots"

Have to say though, I am very disappointed that they took out the execution move where you rip the guys arms off and hit him with it. Seriously, "crossing the line"????? How can you cross a line that youve already crossed?
The other executions are pretty gory so why does the Arm Rip Slap one cross a line that the others havent already. I mean you can blow a guys head up with a sniper rifle.........

i am so pissed they cut that out of the game - we didnt even get to see what it looked like.

plus, no saved films - looks like they're really playing catch-up with HALO 3, even when Gears 2 ships.

but it will still be a 'Badass' game & will take the Live top spot for sure :)

There has been so many articles and rumors hinting of a video recording system in Gears and it's disappointing to hear it's been canned. Hopefully they are taking the same approach Bungie did with 4 player co-op; denying it until close till release.

Lol this makes me love the fact I bought my xbox360 first instead of my ps3 second=]
Let's see here, the 360 has no bluray whatsoever and it has games that are more badass then the ps3 will ever get. I mean there getting real life garden games, and a game called "Afrika"! omg amazing.
Well we'll be chainsawing while they play with there gardening tools

Oh and for resistance 2. I'll be honest with you I played the first one on the ps3, and it was by far the ugliest, and worst fps I have EVER played. The controls were horrible. The whole game just sucked..Now in resistance 2 they have a 300 foot boss omg..Well it's pointless because everyboss in that game is just the exact same. A big creature you shoot up. The game is but ugly, while gears of war has you killing these beasts that look real, and they act real too. I mean remember the gears of war 2 campaign gameplay where at the end you shoot the brumaks face up, and then push him over? That's sick :P
I've never posted a fanboyish comment, but fck this game makes my true colors shine! =]

yep, i know what you mean buddy - i played Resistace on my Brothers PS3 & i just didnt care what happened to the main character - boring gameplay with a boring storyline.

& 60 player online - come on, how will that be good - it'll be like playing the campain all over again.
no way to get a good skilled match in Resistance, its just point & shoot - no cover, active reload, tactics, team play [lack of headsets]........

I'm pretty surprised that they'd include bots. If people can jump in and out of positions that bots previously had, that'd be awesome. And I suppose playing a local game would be easier assuming you don't have to be connected to live to start up a match in the first place.

I'm assuming now you can't get achievements off of bots and you only get achievements for evey Human player you kill.

This is EPIC they'll probably have god-like bots(from UT3) all day and maybe you can up the skills of the bot and stuff and lower the skills so you don't but only in custom matches because in ranked that will kinda be stupid to have the host control bot lv.
