E308: Gears of War 2 five-player co-op 'Horde' mode [Update 2]

Update: 'Horde' mode allows five-players to have an online co-op experience, whether or not that means the entire campaign is playable online remains to be seen.
Today at E3 2008, Microsoft is poised to announce a new Horde-mode for Gears of War 2 during a new level demo today at the Microsoft Press Conference.
Gears of War 2 is set to release this November from developer Epic Games. Today's news adds to the growing list of new features for the anticipated sequel that include new characters, weapons and multiplayer options including bots and weapon specific executions.

bummer on the lack of 4 player co-op in campaign. I was looking forward to that. This Horde mode seems like a cheap tack on.

Yeah. It does somewhat seem like a cheap tack on. But it's something they wanted to give us in return for not having 4 player co-op I think. And you know 4 player co-op on Halo 3 was extremely laggy for me so I'd rather it be this way. The Horde mode somewhat reminds me of Terrorist Hunts in Rainbow Six. Which were extremely fun if you ask me.

Yeah, I'm sure it will be fun... I just really enjoy completing a story with more friends. I had to play GOW 6 times over with friends. It was fun, but I have to say that Halo 3 was infinitely more fun for me with the extra players. Oh well. :)

OMFGBBQ! I have been saying that this type of mode would have been so freakin awesome in Gears 1. Thank you Epic for being the coolest dev out there, and for reading our minds.
