E308: Lips revealed, motion controlled mics [Update]

Update: Lips ships this holiday season with mics that light up and utilize motion control (an example used was shaking the controller as a tambourine) and lets players connect any of their music devices to play their own music.
The rumors were true. According to the, now deleted, Gamerscore Blog video press release Microsoft will announce that the rumored Lips music game is a reality. The karaoke game, developed by Elite Beat Agents dev iNiS, will feature motion-sensitive wireless microphones. The "franchise" is expected to hit Xbox 360 this holiday season. Motion controlled mics? Yeah, we're confused too.

isn't that kind of copying Sony's Singstar francise. It's gonna be tough to beat out Singstar, we'll see if Microsoft can do it.

Bah, this just looks like a clone of SingStar, the worst of the current crop of karaoke games. I was hoping they'd set their sights a little higher.

Very intrigued by their claim that you'll be able to plug in your Zune/iPod, and sing along to any song from it. Can't see how that's going to work (surely that must just be some sort of "jam mode"; how would they get the tone/lyrics to display?) but if it's true, it's potentially brilliant.

this looks really stupid if you ask me.

Did you see the live preformance? It's wicked hilarious!

The truth is, in North America, Lips has a pretty good chance. Singstar still hasn't caught on over here really well yet, and those buying into the latest PS3 release, me included, are becoming aggravated over the dismal track releases.
If MS and the people behind Lips deliver a fun experience with proper post-launch support, they could steal the market easily as it is in it's current state.
