E308: No new Bungie announcement?

Well, the main Microsoft press conference has come and gone with many a megaton indeed. Still, there was one megaton which didn't rear its head: Just what the heck is Bungie working on, and just why the heck is Bungie.net down "for cleaning"? Well Bungie, all your sly hinting was just to mess with us wasn't it? Hopefully not though, as the site appears to be counting down to something (we'll be watching that sucker, don't worry). While it would be strange for a big announcement from Bungie to not come via the press conference, don't forget that they're independent now and are likely trying to do things their own way.

I'm not hoping that, but it does seem strange - they break their ties with MS / rumors for a game with no MC / rumors of a E3 announcement that didn't happen yet.... (on a positive not there is the Walmart Halo Blue rumor for fall)

I thought Bungie were still offering all there games to Microsoft before anyone else, and i doubt MS is likely to pass a new bungie game up to sony.

Everyone seems up in arms that it is a Bungie title for the PS3 i just reread the Kotaku interview with them(sorry it was the only one I could find) and Bungie said that they were still releasing on Windows and Xbox. I think it is the fact that this is Bungie's first big announcement as a private company. Thus they want to do it their way on their own terms. Plus Sony's conference is tuesday not wednesday. I have faith in Bungie!

Can I just add that the "Halo: Blue" announcement is driving me insane?!? LOOK AT THE SCREENSHOT, it CLEARLY says "Tornado Halo Blue."

That doesn't sound like Halo to me!

I agree, have faith in the B-machine. You make a great point about making the announcement on their own because they are their own deal now, and they want their own attention, they don't need daddy to do it for them. Plus, why would a company known for multi-player release a game on a platform that isn't know for the Multi-player yet.

The agreement between Bungie and MS when they split was that MS gets first crack at what Bungie does.

So if Bungie were to release something on PS3, don't expect it to be any good.

I assume they will wait to announce anything. Since they are no longer part of Microsoft, so they will probably do something after everyone's press conferences.

Maybe it's something related to the Nintendo/Sony conferences. Remember bungie isnt tied to Microsoft anymore, they could be going to the Wii/ps3.

What if the Superintendent has something to do with the Halo Universe?

Another secret weapons project? I really doubt the military in the future would have a single project aka Spartan II/ Captain America - Iron Man/ Super Soldier project, considering shadow governments and all. Yes I know this is borderline MGS, but still...

I left out: In reading the code a little more, it accounts for offset of timezone, so that 2:07:07pm is most likely UTC. So, somewhere around 10:07:07am EDT right now.

How much ever I hate the PS3, I would unite with the PS3 fanboys when it comes to war with the Wii. I'm sure most of you Xbox fanboys would agree.

You still haven't found one in stores have you.. I traded in my gamecube and paid some money for one and its a fun system. Of course not everyone can just drop whatever amount the thing costs on a whim, but for the ladies, they sure like to play it. If Lips came out on wii it would sellout like no other.

I think they were going to announce something today, until Nintendo had that little press release about the new SuperWaggle device. Nintendo tried to steal their thunder, now Bungie and MS are going to try to do the same back to Nintendo.

What if Halo:Blue is the story from Cortona while she was stuck in the clutches of the Gravemind? She says all kinds of crazy stuff during Halo 3... stuff about what she has been through and what she has done...

And maybe the Janitor is some kind of construct that is involved inside the computer system... either someone she has to fight or someone that is helping her...

She is blue after all... maybe it will be a game where you are inside a computer system... kind of like Tron!!?!?!?

the source code on the bungie.net page reveals that the site is counting down to 7/16/2008 2:07:07 PM and will then change the message to "rebooting..." - perhaps an xbla announcement?

There's already rumor from a reliable source on Gamestop.com saying that the new Bungie game is part of the Halo story, but no Master Chief. The game is rumored to be a squad based shooter, Looks " bloodier and grittier" and "less cartoony". The guy says it's a mix between Gears of War and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. alot of people are speculating this right now. Since they recently showed a picture of a dude with a plunger, many think they could be doing something with nintendo...especially since nintendo has been saying "we have a game all the hardcore people will want"
