E308: Too Human Demo Online now
After all the controversy that has surrounded the game, gamers can finally give Too Human a shot for themselves. While it's possible that the demo of the Norse inspired dungeon crawler might not give one the full flavor of the game considering how story and loot driven the experience is supposed to be. Still, something is better than nothing, especially with a game that has been so divisive as this one. The demo is 1.1 gigs and is online now.

Just randomly turned on my xbox to try to stay awake a bit longer and figured I would see if any new demo by chance showed up and saw it. downloading it now. should be interesting
Conor @ Jul 14th 2008 6:17AM
Downloading now. ( should take a decade )
Anyone play it yet?
Thundarr2006 @ Jul 14th 2008 6:29AM
Finally, the Too Human demo has come to Xbox Live! I just hope it even comes close to being worth the wait.
cakey @ Jul 14th 2008 6:33AM
DLing now. Gonna test out Bioenginer first.
bigmac375 @ Jul 14th 2008 6:46AM
gut check time for silicon knights
imhotep @ Jul 14th 2008 6:55AM
this game has cult following written all over it.
cakey @ Jul 14th 2008 6:58AM
It's only the campaign, and you can only play as the Champion :(
mewithoutyou @ Jul 14th 2008 7:03AM
oh great awkward controls...
Aegis @ Jul 14th 2008 7:04AM
Holy crap, the thing is at least an hour long.
ScroogeMcDuck @ Jul 14th 2008 7:20AM
pretty dissapointing game, the gameplay mechanics needs to be completely redefined. I don't like the way they execute the whole sword and gunfight mechanics, they suck at imitating Devil May Cry.
Jcarpio @ Jul 14th 2008 7:26AM
you do understand that this is a dungeon crawler like diablo not an action game like devil may cry
Hooligunn @ Jul 14th 2008 8:02AM
Seriously, this game is amazing. How you can compare this to DMC4 I do not know. I went into this with lower expectations because of the iffyness of previews lately, but I thought it was absolute amazing.
The combat was fun as hell (juggling + sliding = WIN), the graphics are great, the controls are great (once you get used to them, the Right Analogue Stick took some getting used to but I love it now) and .. I've just been really impressed.
Preordering it definetely now. How you can say it's trying to "imitate" DMC I don't know - it's not an ACTION game, it's an RPG dungeon crawler.
ericdrum @ Jul 14th 2008 8:31AM
Mr. McDuck, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Boff @ Jul 14th 2008 7:32AM
Looking forward to trying this. I'll be downloading it when I get home tonight.
cakey @ Jul 14th 2008 7:44AM
I'm pretty disappointed. Controls are akward, camera angles are bad, making melee hard. The menu screen is slow and clumsy.
SABCA @ Jul 14th 2008 7:51AM
Definitely a Hybrid RPG/Action Game Mechanic. It maintains combat simple enough so that non-action fans can get into it, but with enough simple "thrills" (Look, enemies float and can be juggled!) to make it more appealing to look at.
And I have to say, I'm happy to see Location based Damage on large enemies! I wish it was available on smaller enemies too, but I can see how that'd be a pain, with as many small enemies on screen as they have.
Baldur is voiced by Crispin Freeman, and that rocks, because he has a wonderfully epic voice. And he probably is really into this type of story, as well. So one can expect good acting from him.
The graphics... remind me of almost every big Xbox 360 game, lol. It feels very Mass Effect like, though probably a bit less over-detailed, especially with character details, like defining the skin. Gameplay runs at a solid framerate, even if cinematics looks a bit off framerate wise.
This already feels like a small-time classic. It's story and presentation should be JUST different enough to make it gather a fanbase. I still wish the combat had a bit more life to it, special effect wise, but that's just a stylistic thing.
It'd definitely worth at LEAST trying out, and it's a sizable demo, so it's a good taste of what's to come!
Jcarpio @ Jul 14th 2008 8:01AM
Question.. does it start you out at the beginning, pre powers, like the Bioshock demo? or more of the accelerated leveling up as the Crackdown demo?
Aegis of Sparta @ Jul 14th 2008 8:50AM
I believe it's the beginning of the game.
Hooligunn @ Jul 14th 2008 8:54AM
It's a mix. You start out with low grade armour, weapons and skill, but you level VERY quickly. I ended up at lvl 8 from the demo, and half way down the skill tree for Aerial Combat.
You also get better armour as you go along too.
SABCA @ Jul 14th 2008 9:06AM
You start out at level 1, and make it to lvl 7 by the demos end. You have to progress up the skill tree yourself, and you can make it to the 4th bump on the tree before the demo ends. There are 3 paths on the tree, that all end at the same destination. This final skill doesn't look to be possible to get in the demo, unless there's some backtracking I missed.
ZenGaijin @ Jul 14th 2008 8:04AM
My first impressions?
I kinda like it Dennis was right about one thing, I've never played anything quite like this before. It's refreshing in this era where everything is a shooter.
You're all right Too Human, you're all right.
Jcarpio @ Jul 14th 2008 8:10AM
is it a single player demo only?
Jerry @ Jul 14th 2008 8:06AM
The game is cool, I love all aspect of game but the camera could use some work, I love the combat, story and customization.
ZenGaijin @ Jul 14th 2008 9:44AM
Yeah camera is the major issue for me. You have to fight it a bit because you can lock onto something thats out of the cameras view which is a bit odd.
The_Punisher @ Jul 14th 2008 9:29AM
uh...you guys feeling okay?
The camera absolutely sucks, combat is pretty meh, and story is a joke. I was trying to take it seriously, but the dialog is horrible. It thinks it's Mass Effect, excpet it's not even close. ME dialog was seriosu, but beleiveable. This is just stupid.
They introduce characters thorugh flashbacks and all of a sudden it's okay? Ughh, combat is decent enough that i might pick it up on sale for $20, but honestly i expected exactly what i got. Can't beleive some of you are actually preordering...
ZenGaijin @ Jul 14th 2008 9:45AM
I ain't said anything about preordering but games like this are what Gamefly is made for.
The_Punisher @ Jul 14th 2008 9:48AM
Yep, definite rent (but i don't rent games, so $20 clearance for me).
Teabag @ Jul 14th 2008 10:11AM
I so want to try this! But being a Silver member, i have to wait a whole freakin week for it. Gosh..stupid Gold benefits. I don't wanna pay $50 to you MS!
The general impression i am getting is that it's in the middle. Not good, not bad. Exactly what i thought it would be. It didn't look good enough by the trailers and video demos. Mass Effect had that polish. This one seems to lack it. I guess engine disputes and rebuilding it had severe impact on the overall game.
AjDaChipmunk @ Jul 14th 2008 10:19AM
I kinda liked the game.
I captured some of the parts that I liked. I thought the meeting with the Norms was funny.
Here is a little bit of that....

Rell @ Jul 14th 2008 10:34AM
The easier way would have been to jump on it's back and stab it from the top, but you have to keep your balance as you try to attack.
Combat is ok I guess, but the camera makes it horrible.
Jerry @ Jul 14th 2008 10:20AM
The internets are failing, people are receiving the demo well, the minority annoyce groep of the internets is dieing
Neuromancer @ Jul 14th 2008 12:17PM
Somewhere a village is missing an idiot.
Decapit8 @ Jul 14th 2008 11:15AM
yeahhhh, camera is awful, voice acting is.... also awful. and the gameplay is mediocre
jr157 @ Jul 14th 2008 12:01PM
holy shit,
maybe im wrong, but didnt this p.o.s take 10 years to make.it looks and plays like a decade old game.
i mean this is 2008 right, what a waste of time and harddrive space. sure glad it easy to delete on 360
TOO HUMAN-TOO SUCKS-----jr157
ccc @ Jul 14th 2008 12:32PM
This game is garbage.
The only saving feature this game has was the introduction of the classes, but thats right out the window due to poor gameplay, bad controls, horrorable voice acting and a laughable framerate.
Looks like all this guys whinning ended up being because of his own insecureties after all.
Silicon Knights, WTF is wrong with you.
superklye @ Jul 15th 2008 11:38AM
"horrorable"?
Mike-453 @ Jul 14th 2008 12:48PM
Eh? Guess this is a love it or hate it game.
I personally love it. I assume none of you people like games such as Diablo then?
haukke @ Jul 14th 2008 12:56PM
i loved it.found it to be kinda easy though.i like that if there are 30 enemies on screen all you have to do is move the right stick in the direction of the enemies no button mashing makes combat very easy.more or less what i expected keeping my preorder
Rodrigo @ Jul 14th 2008 1:31PM
uh huh ya were making fun of haze because the demo sucked now ya are getting of the same thing, a mediocre game
ccc @ Jul 14th 2008 1:58PM
You know last fall Too Human wasn't good enough to compete with the big games.
Halo 3
The Orange Box
Bio Shock
Mass Effect
This year the game will not merit mention amoung 08's great games.
Mirrors Edge
Left for Dead
Gears of War2
Dead Space
RE4
Fallout 3
Borderlands
Aliens Colonial Marines
Too Human reminds me more of a Two Worlds, heh.
Either way I don't think the game is worth talking about so I'm not going to address my attention on it ever again.
JoM Baldr @ Jul 14th 2008 3:27PM
Ok, reading the previous comments on this game i have come up with the asumption that they are all 10 yr olds, the game has no frame rate issues at all, the era the game is set in is amazing, just becuase you simpletons dont get it doesnt mean half intelegent people dont get it. The game has the camera like it does becuase it is meant to be 1) cinematic so that the games deisigners can show you parts of the world they want you to see. 2) so when you are in combat it feels like you are a god, when you are flying around in mid air combat other camera angles wouldnt work.
Overall, what an amazing RPG, Keep up the good work Silicon Knights
Sonos @ Jul 14th 2008 3:36PM
I agree with JoM Baldr
You people clearly dont understand Norse Methology.
Story, well its completley top notch.
Go Play COD 4 if you want to mindlessly want to shoot stuff.
This game is for RPG fans. Not Simple Shooter jockeys.
ALSO Too Human on a 105' 1080i TV Looks SWEET
Revo191 @ Jul 14th 2008 8:43PM
I Love This. i love how mid combat you can change swords, guns, armor, etc. the graphics were fine not "oh shit wow thats good" but i dont play games for the graphics, its only a plus.
itsburnsie @ Jul 15th 2008 12:33AM
Lord help me, but I truly enjoyed this demo.
I was fully expecting to come here and talk about how the demo was the gaming equivalent of the Hindenburg... but by God it's fun.
I just hope more people run out and buy it so we can get the rest of the gorram trilogy.
strangemusician @ Jul 15th 2008 1:23AM
I didn't find the combat as fast as I would have liked... maybe this is just coming off of Ninja Gaiden 2 which is the proverbial gore-o-matic at 100KM/H, but Too Human (at least in melee) felt slow, even the cool sliding mechanic and the air juggling took far too long to respond in the way my brain wanted them to. Granted, using just the sticks for melee is pretty cool, but I kept wanting more precision and speed, almost in a DMC way as one previous person said. Having to transfer away from the stick to the buttons for Jump/Dodge is really annoying at times! The gun combat felt a lot better IMHO. I used to love Diablo back in its day and still play loads of RPGs, so the weapons/armor/items system looks great to me, but I agree that the menus are a bit sluggish. Graphics... not bad either! The in game voice of the squad members and such is great too.
Overall... I don't know! It's got a ton going for it but it might not be "just right"
webnfo @ Jul 15th 2008 7:47AM
like most, I went into this thinking that it would completely suck. I'm not a fan of stick-fighting! However, after 15 minutes of play, I had no trouble with the controls. The only thing I'd like to see is fast movement. I thought the "slide" was too artificial. It should be more of a phased teleport!
Anton @ Jul 15th 2008 8:22AM
Loved it. Need some dungeon crawling action - controls were clumsy at first, but once I got used to them, it was very slick.
It may not be as fast as you hoped but remember, you're only seeing up to level 8... we don't know how fierce you can become :)
webnfo @ Jul 15th 2008 9:21AM
the speed did increase for me by the time the demo ended. I only hope it continues as you level and gain better equipment in the final game. I will definitely buy this game when it comes out!
RedSonRising @ Jul 15th 2008 6:25PM
2 thoughts on the demo
1. i swear i chose the beserker first time through.. maybe im deluded but i distinctly remember the dual weilding weapons and having a different armor setup..
2. i dunno what the clock was counting down but i got it to freeze at 7 seconds left by bringing up my inventory screen.. not sure if it was gonna end my demo or lead to a cutscene..
overall the game looks promising.. i dont like the control scheme; id prefer a normal right stick look, left stick move setup and facebuttons for moves.. the scheme they use is easy on the thumbs tho and im sure after a few hours dungeon crawling ill appreciate the right stick controls...
promising but not perfect.. graphics very mass effectish, definitely a different visual look than stuff based on the unreal engine.. overal the demo gets a 4 outta 5.. definitely worth the download..
Jason @ Jul 17th 2008 10:42AM
I downloaded it and started it up. It went through everything up to the "Press Start" screen. Then it decided to not allow to press any button whatsoever. I pushed every button on the controller and the ONLY one that got a response was the Xbox jewel. I even tried to delete and re-install. Still not working. What's up?
