E308: Ubisoft reveals 'I Am Alive'

The disaster game had been in the news prior to E3 as earlier reports suggested Jade Raymond, producer of Assassin's Creed, was at the helm of the title. Currently the title is scheduled to release on "current generation video game consoles" in Spring 2009. Nothing specific about the game is known but for a taste of what you could expect check our Disaster Report. Actually. Don't -- that game was the definition of mediocre.

What's with these ruins of Chicago angles suddenly? Resistance 2 has it too.
Finally Chicago is getting more attention in games and it's only when it's blown up lol.
Oh well.

Also, there's a banner under the L in the "6 days earlier" sequence that shows a link to www.ruarmoko.com.
Don't know what that's about. There's nothing at the URL currently. Ubisoft has it registered, though.

This very much reminds me of Zettai Zetsumei Toshi series... Which appears to have been released outside Japan as "Disaster Report" and "Raw Danger".
A very nice idea when pulled off well.

Yes and pretty shitty when done poorly (i.e. Disaster Report). I wanted to like that game... But it made it hard to like.

Yeah. I said as much in the story...

That is what I meant with the "when pulled off well". If you`re dying every few steps, there is a problem.
But it IS an impressive idea. Whether it will be good depends on how they pull it off.

Hmmmm...the building leaning on the other looks like it was taken straight out of Cloverfield...

If you're going to mention Jade Raymond, you need to put a picture of her in the post. It's just good etiquette.

OK, i feel like I really dropped the ball in respects to commenting earlier on this story.
Back a number of months ago I was in a focus group for this game. The group had no idea what the game was called or what publisher/developer was behind it, but this IS the game.
An earthquake of undisclosed origin (seems natural) rocks Chicago and the game is strictly based on your choice of helping other survivors out. We were shown a really rough trailer, which also showed a first person view at least at one point. A few photocopied images tacked on a board showed that the game will also feature interpersonal drama and perhaps co-op functionality.
The person asking us the questions seemed to focus on the topic of "Would helping others be a satisfying game quality?"
Most of the panel disagreed unless there were ulterior motives to help, such as to continue the story, earn Achievements or to procure loot in some way. The panelist seemed to stress that the title could simply pose the player as a one man Red Cross in a sense where he himself wouldn't get much benefit from helping, it was just his job.
So there you go..this is what I can tell you all about the game.

I was hoping for a zombie-survival game, like I am legend or something. The Assassins Creed sequel is an interesting idea though.

thats exactly what i was hoping for.

May have posted twice...

..Lastly, Cloverfield and zombie movies did come up in the conversation, but the panelist seemed to stress that the publisher was interested in perhaps making a game based strictly on real-world drama in light of a natural disaster. Nothing sci-fi or otherworldly.
Most of the panel seemed to show disinterest. I mentioned 'I Am Legend' which had just come out and said that the whole 'world after the end of the world' storytelling tool was one I found interesting, but that I would not be interested in simply becoming a saint and helping survivors from a natural disaster.
