During a sit down session with Epic's Cliff Bleszinski,
MTV Multiplayer confirmed that the game's new five player cooperative
Horde mode will include exactly 50 different waves of Locust enemies, each getting progressively more difficult. Seeing that the difficulty curve in later waves gets noticeably more challenging, you'll be able to "bookmark" your Horde mode progress every five waves. But just exactly how difficult does it get? When the lead designer of the game admits that he can only reach wave 27 then you know things get really impossible and really intense.

I bet you we'll be getting an achievement for completing Level 50 :D (Is this the new "Seriously..." achievement? :) )
Rell @ Jul 16th 2008 11:54AM
I would happily go for it. Sounds like this will be enjoyed by many.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 16th 2008 12:07PM
Noooooooo, please no more Seriouslyyyyy!! I lost so much sleep getting the frist one. :P
It was fun no doubt but damn I hated those videogame hangovers...
John @ Jul 16th 2008 11:57AM
This mode sounds just like Invasion in UT.
Bmurph @ Jul 16th 2008 12:58PM
Is that a bad thing?
danny. @ Jul 16th 2008 11:56AM
in the 1up podcast they said they currently have fifty levels, but the actual number of waves will be determined by the farthest the testers reach times two. They said that the testers had only gotten to wave 26 so far.
Triforceowner @ Jul 16th 2008 12:35PM
I confirm.
Sev @ Jul 16th 2008 12:50PM
I hope they keep the 50 waves anyways, it'd still give me a goal to do xD
Vcize @ Jul 16th 2008 11:58AM
This mode sounds like it's going to be awesome.
I'm not worried about Clifford (that's what we're calling him now, right?) only being able to make it to level 27. Based on his feelings on what to tweat for weapon balancing, I'm guessing he's not actually all that great at playing the game so much as building it.
T-BoNe254 @ Jul 16th 2008 11:59AM
i expect to get to the high 30's before i start having trouble. I mean Cliff had to use god mode to demo the brumak fight for the PC version og GoW1 last E3...
T-BoNe254 @ Jul 16th 2008 11:59AM
of*
webster1990 @ Jul 16th 2008 2:04PM
Yeah, but that is just so that in case he does die he doesn't have to start again and he can easily demo the game in the time given
T-BoNe254 @ Jul 16th 2008 2:35PM
That's not my point. My point is that he is not that good, if he had god mode off there were at least 2 or 3 spots where he would of died.

Dustin
I know you've played Gears 2 MP at E3 already, but did they allow for some single player as well? Another question is if you have at least seen the single player up close, how does it compare graphics wise to the first game? From the looks of Cliffs demo it looked ridiculous. Probably even better than Killzone 2.
Dustin Burg @ Jul 16th 2008 12:09PM
sorry man, our preview was limited to multiplayer only.
xFenixKnightx @ Jul 16th 2008 12:39PM
Oh, i see. Thx. I'm still jelous...
LongshotX @ Jul 16th 2008 12:02PM
Seriously 100,000 Kills.
Ryan Hartman @ Jul 16th 2008 12:04PM
This game is going to be so jaw. I think I'm most excited for this mode. My freinds don't seem to hyped, they want to take on human opponents, but everything I'm hearing about horde has my pants extra tight
Intentless @ Jul 16th 2008 12:31PM
Reminds me of AVP survival mode on the PC.. That was awesome.
ccc @ Jul 16th 2008 12:09PM
Sounds, great.
Rick @ Jul 16th 2008 12:24PM
This is a great variation on Gears gameplay that I know my friends and I will be addicted to/frustrated by. Can't wait!
Phawx @ Jul 16th 2008 12:39PM
I thought Halo 3 was going to get a 'Flood' very similar to this. At least someone finally started thinking like this
veridis @ Jul 16th 2008 12:48PM
Cant wait looks really good, i hopes people's ideas of completing this replacing a giant kill count achievement are true, takes skill more than time.
Tony @ Jul 16th 2008 1:26PM
Awesome. I love modes like this. Kind of classic arcade, high score stuff.
I'll be playing that a lot.
Joe @ Jul 16th 2008 1:28PM
my bigeest question is is it easier with less people or is the difficulty the same
Chris @ Jul 16th 2008 1:30PM
I LOVE THIS< finally a mode thats treuly hard to summount im so sick of games getting dumbed down so anyone can do 100% without effort... hearing that the devs can get to lvl 27 of 50 makes me happy means when i hit 28 ill be estatic :)
Chris @ Jul 16th 2008 1:31PM
i hope its not easier, that way when me and 1 buddy beat level 50 it'll be that more astonishing :)
webster1990 @ Jul 16th 2008 2:08PM
Sounds awesome, seems like i am going to get more playtime out of this than the first one. And i got a LOT of playtime out of the first (and i didn't even have xbox live back then, just a one month free)
LeadBoxx @ Jul 16th 2008 3:46PM
How awesome would it be to have a wave of Berzerkers coming at ya? Nay awesome but insane!
zackd15 @ Jul 16th 2008 4:32PM
actually, up in the higher levels they start to send EVERYTHING at you. I heard in a podcast where they talked to developers and they said around round level 30, they release about 5 beserkers that run around the map just running into everyone. Now combine that with blood mounts, reapers, drones, boomers, and everyother locust, this is gonna be INSANE.
