Valve's Lombardi talks Portal XBLA, achievements and other platforms
Valve's Doug Lombardi (seen muzzled by an X3F sticker at E3 2008) recently cleared up some confusion regarding the content of Portal: Still Alive for the Xbox Live Arcade in an interview with OXM. "It's just a series of new challenges," Lombardi told the magazine. "[Portal: Still Alive is] another way for people to experience Portal, without having to buy the full Orange Box."
We can't say we're surprised. With such a focus on story we didn't expect Valve to do anything exclusively for the Xbox that would factor into actual canon of the series.
Lombardi later detailed that Valve has new projects in the works for the Xbox 360 but remain firm on its disinterest for PS3 and Wii development. It was also confirmed that Team Fortess 2 that the achievements and content added to the PC version of the game will come to the Xbox 360 at some point, when Valve has worked out how it wants to package and release that content.

Seconded
... release portal in pure portal form and this will be a for-sure sale

Its Portal, AND the new levels without having to purchase or rent The Orange Box. I personally rented the game just for Portal. Totally worth it. Will be picking this up!

I personally liked all the games included, especially TF2.
I played TFC in teh old days and the exclusion of grenades made the game a lot more fun.
Half-life just classic.
I've to say that as much as I love Portal people spoiled the sh*t out of that game so there were like 2 jokes left unspoiled .Also the controls need to be calibrated sometimes in certain challenges in order to get gold. I still need 2 gold trophies to get the achievement.
So far The orange box and Dead Rising have the best achievements.

Too bad the TF2 online MP connections SUCK and you can't play it long without getting too frustrated. So much for the extra achievements and content.
Viridium @ Jul 18th 2008 12:58PM
I have to agree. I played the crap out of the Orange Box, but TF2 just gets so frustrating online. Since it looks like I don't need to keep it for XBLA Portal, it's gonna get sold soon.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 18th 2008 1:27PM
huh?
I believe TF2 is the best online game there is so far in the xbox live,I don't get lag whatsoever and even with so few maps is a blast to play,I got all the achievements legit and I play it all the time.
Maybe you are doing it wrong.

Yeah, so we can expect this after they complete all the DLC for every class on the PC, right? So, see you in 2010 or so? Valve's 360 support is a bit of a joke right now.
Kizzle @ Jul 18th 2008 1:04PM
Compared to their PS3 support, it's amazing.
Mr.ESC @ Jul 18th 2008 1:29PM
Wot?! DLC for TF2 YES!
It seems that the only games that get support these days are Halo 3,Guitar Hero and Rockband.
Anyway Portal FTW,I just need 2 achievements from the orange box.

Good to know Portal: Still Alive is not a sequel. I was totally pissed that Valve sold out and ditched the PC platform.
Still...these extra new levels. How would it look if Valve's own game won't make it to their own online game distribution system Steam? I want to buy Portal: Still Alive but i won't because MS Points are extremely expensive in this part of the country. Wish Live supported Paypal.
AnthonyGalindoX @ Jul 18th 2008 4:16PM
I can't imagine that it won't come to the PC as a free expansion pack
thephor @ Jul 20th 2008 1:12PM
All you have to do in TF2 is find a good host online. They fixed the online problems a long time ago.
