Confirmed: No online co-op for Geometry Wars 2
During our sit-down, hands on session with Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, we learned a quite sad nugget of Geometry Wars 2 knowledge from the Microsoft folks: The game will NOT feature online co-op. Boo-hiss-boo! For the simple reason of too much going on to make co-op enabled online, Bizarre Creations will only allow four players to experience Geometry Wars 2 locally. Sad too, because we were all about destroying pieces of geometry with friends over Live. Lame! Lame! Lame!

Um, I'm sure its not as bad as you make it out to be.. stop looking for thing to bitch about, this will be a killer game ;P

Awww, that's a bummer. Oh well, should still be fun.
VeHeMeNcE @ Jul 21st 2008 1:50PM
Wow, that's REALLY disappointing.

makes sense. The game has so many chain reactions going on that it would cause some serious lag on LIVE. A game like this cannot have ANY lag.
Maybe in about 10 years when everyone is on fiber.

I'm sure geo wars 2 will be a very fun game. But well thats all i needed to know to decide not to buy this. I got the first game i can enjoy for offline play. The only reason i'd be interested in the second is if it had online co-op play. I'll pass Bizzare.
bigC24 @ Jul 21st 2008 2:11PM
Welp, I'm not interested anymore.
=(

Okay, so listen bizarre, you're goin to give me some effin' Online co-op play or else you will have a massive uproar of stoners (and there are alot of us, believe me!) boycotting bizarre downloads all over Live. You will pay for this, i am only tryin to help....(Myself) *cough*. Anywayz we paid our money, and supported the Best XBLA game and thought, "Man this would be so much better if i could play with my friend 'DidUrMoOM69' and kill these weird, impressively colorful, and wonderful lights on my screen, while im HiGh off of what my supplier told me was 'White Widow'." I just shrugged it off and said, "Well i know it was widely accepted and loved, so there will be a sequel. Im sooo sure that they'll make sure to have online co-op in the next one (WRONG!!!!)....I died a little bit inside because of you, you....people! Come on, even if you have to delay the game slightly

You sir speak for a large mass of Xbox gamers. However you should not limit your high while playing this game to only weed. Trust me many different drugs also work vry well with this game.
ccc @ Jul 21st 2008 2:22PM
well, fuck this game.
jdkay20 @ Jul 21st 2008 2:29PM
well thats sucks but i'm still getting the game.
Vcize @ Jul 21st 2008 2:29PM
I know technically it would be very difficult (any lag would make this game impossible), but it's still very diasappointing.
DJ @ Jul 21st 2008 2:36PM
I don't understand the lag thing...if a heavy graphical game like Call of Duty 4 can host a lot of players...what's up with a 2-D game having issues for coop?
Vcize @ Jul 21st 2008 6:19PM
The problem isn't that Geometry Wars would have more lag, it's just that because of the way the game is played, the same amount of lag would screw you up a lot more.
If you ping 50ms in a CoD4 server you're doing pretty good, and you don't feel like you're "lagging" at all because it's not really affecting you. If you ping 50ms in a Geometry Wars game you're probably dying every 5 seconds because of it.
Iced_Eagle @ Jul 21st 2008 2:40PM
Huge bummer...
Even though I loved the first, I wasn't going to spend my money on this anyways though.
Jeremy @ Jul 21st 2008 3:00PM
Not interested anymore either. Games like this, and Omega 5 for instance would be 10x better with online co-op.
Not really sure about those of you who think there would be a big lag having all that business on a co-op version. There is little rendering (and NO 3D modeling), and not a super fast frame rate. Don't think it would be an issue.
I would rather wait another 3 months for a game that would have online co-op than having it release early. I know finance department for game studios don't like that idea. Faster to market FTW!

gamers are a fickle creature... one minute games are getting roasted for not having local co-op\multiplayer then the next minute games are getting lambasted for not having online co-op\multiplayer. I guess that games now adays must have both, because if a game has one or the other, the game/company/publisher/console responsible gets "boycotted" by the internet at large(so lame).
Geo wars happens to be a particular game where even a split second of lag or unresponsiveness is unacceptable. Good on them for taking out a piece of the pie that would only cause more problems if implemented. Lets hear it for 4 player local co-op, god forbid that you actually have to be in the same room as your friends to play. Don't be afraid of real social interaction, its good for you.
Lyle @ Jul 21st 2008 3:55PM
They might as well of had Activision or EA publish it so we can get a new mediocre sequel every year. Waiting 3 years for an incomplete sequel to the best game on the arcade is pretty dumb.
Vol @ Jul 21st 2008 4:38PM
Here's why it won't work over Live:
Too much information to transmit at any time at current data rates.
When you are playing COD4 online, the system may be tracking 16 players and 16 bullets at any given time, right?
Compound that with the number of enemies and the numbers of bullets and you could easily approach hundreds of objects to track at once.
Travis @ Jul 21st 2008 5:54PM
Me and my friends already bought the points for this, expecting it to be online coop. Now I'm hella disappointed.
Blue_Falcon @ Jul 21st 2008 7:00PM
This is disappointing. But the other 6 modes (or however many there are) -should- make it up. Hopefully.
Boff @ Jul 22nd 2008 5:33AM
I can understand why they didn't include it but that doesn't stop me from being disappointed.
5-10 years ago I wouldn't have cared as my mates were always around and hanging out all the time but since then we've all grown up and lead our own lives now so online multiplayer is the only way we can play together these days.
