Gears novel gets name, author and release change
The Gears of War novel we heard about earlier this year, a prequel titled The Pendulum Wars, has now been officially announced by Microsoft and Epic Games, but has since gone through a name change, author change and release date change.Gears of War: The Battle of Aspho Fields is the novel's new title, and gone is the original writer Steven L. Kent, replaced by Karen Traviss. The prequel will now officially hit store shelves later this Fall on October 28th, prior to Gears of War 2's release. Truly Epic.

The_Punisher @ Jul 21st 2008 3:46PM
Down? This is guna suck. Why would they make a book on a story that sucks? It works for Halo, but Gears? No.
Also, why is there so much retarded talk in the post?
"i canz readz"
"i can has"
WTF

i dont think that the story in gears sucked, i think that there wasnt enough story told and thats what made it bad. i think a little character back story would be good. But i also think they should try to add a little more story telling in game and not leave it to a novel to fill in the blanks for us.
The_Punisher @ Jul 21st 2008 8:22PM
It was good enough to fit the game, but nothing was epxlained. X happened becuase they said so. It has potential, it just wasn't used. Also, and this may be persona preference, i like cuscenes. It' cool how GoW and COD4 do interactive cutscenes, but honestly, i much prefer the way MGS4 handles it (and MGS4 could possibly be my favorite game, so.....).
We'll see in a little while i guess. I can't wait for both GoW2 and Resistance 2. Similar, yet different.
Summer drought blows, and Fable II looks pretty bad honestly.
I laos hate the way Halo made you read comics to fill in the 2-3 story gap. GAY
I REALLY hope they don't do that here.

I've read a few of Karen Traviss' Star Wars: Republic Commando books and they were good. I will probably give this one a read.

I think the story in the game wasn't bad at all. Simple, and easy to follow for the massives that would buy the game. This strange planet is trying to be taken by this beast (The Locust Horde) and these soldiers (Cog) are just trying to save their planet. Sounds like something I've seen before...Oh yeah Independence Day, and Independence Day was a great story. Hit in the box office. Hopefully and I'm quite positive that this book will be good and informative.

Her SW Republic Commando books were a good read so if she's able to do the same like she did with them this to will be good.
Boff @ Jul 22nd 2008 5:37AM
But Will Smith was in Independence Day.

Wow, knowing how passionate the writer MUST be on this clearly-not-a-cash-grab book (nothing says passion for the source material like being hired on to replace the previous hack midway through the planning/marketing, right?)... I still think I'll have to pass.
Etchasketchist @ Jul 21st 2008 7:47PM
I hate books.
