GH: World Tour secures Hendrix tracks and avatar
Today, Activision and Red Octane are probably strutting around their swank offices with chests held high, because we just got word that they have secured Hendrix for inclusion in Guitar Hero: World Tour.
According to cbc.ca, Activision has secured the licensing rights to include two of Jimi Hendrix's songs for World Tour including "The Wind Cries Mary" and a live version of "Purple Haze" that was recorded back in 1969. Though, if those two tracks don't float your boat, Acti promises more Hendrix DLC post release. But, not only will two Hendrix tracks make the World Tour cut, but we also learn that the game will feature an in-game Hendrix avatar featuring his likeness. And so the Guitar Hero versus Rock Band battle continues ...

can't wait for the stiff and crappy animations they produce for his character. I'm sure they will destroy his look with puppet style design and give him over the top lips and nose while re-using the Steve Tyler clothing assets from Gh aerosmith.
Have fun with this crap along with the over charted notes they will give.

The first game to get either Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd will be the one I buy. Although rock band is looking good right now with ACDC and The Who.

Agreed. Completely.
I do like the fact they're including his music, but it bugs me as well how they're making him an in-game character. Especially since they're gonna make his lips and nose freaking huge (probably) and disrespect him.

I love Hendrix, but I kind of wish they'd just leave dead musicians out of this sort of stuff. Using their music is great, but stuffing them in there as a character just makes me think of those commercials from the 90s where they'd have dead actors selling Diet Coke.

@ Tony U know I forgot all about that ad!
I do not think we will ever see Voodo Child (slight return) anytime soon. I remember WCW (Ted turner) had to pay the estate of Jimi $750,000 to not only use that song (as well as another one) to not only use the songs on TV as an intro but also for houe shows and mising in the NWO sounds.
I would like to have Hey Joe in one of these games too.
Imagine.... playing another brick in the wall or Comfortably numb in one of these games....... *sigh will never happen those songs would cost them too much.

why all the guitar hero hate?
the instruments work with both games so just shut up.
atm both games are just as good as each other, but by looking at some of the known gh drum charts they seem to be more realistic than the rock band ones.
either way i'll get both games when they release in the uk and i'm sure i'll love them both.
if you dont like guitar hero just keep it to yourself because i'm sure there are still a lot of people who do like it and enjoy reading news such as this.

Guitar Hero is like Halo, it's cool to hate. So, all the 12 year old basement dwelling losers love to justify their hatred of society by taking any opportunity they can to spout off:
"HAY GUYZ, LOOK AT ME I HATE GUITAR HERO AND HALO I'M SUCH A REBEL AND SO COOL NOW!"
Tony @ Jul 21st 2008 2:48PM
I can't use my Rock Band guitar with GHII or GHIII...
Gary Harwell @ Jul 21st 2008 3:23PM
Personally, I think liking Guitar Hero is a little more asinine than hating it. At this point, Guitar Hero is nothing more than a name. People like Rock Band because it came from the creators of Guitar Hero. Now Guitar Hero is a franchise name that is being passed on from developer to developer and is constantly playing catch up with the original developer. People (like me) hate the Guitar Hero Franchise because it continues to make more money than Rock Band not because it is a better game, but because it became a more identifiable name (as a result of Harmonix's hard work).

all instruments will work with ghwt...
the game that this post is all about..
and the reason i like guitar hero more than rock band (single player guitar tour wise) is because guitar hero is just a much more fun game! in my opinion:)
and that's probably why i am looking forward to this game more than rock band 2.
there really isn't any reason that a person should hate guitar hero or rock band.
we should all just love them, like we love our beloved xboxs:)
Boff @ Jul 22nd 2008 4:27AM
Well that's 2 copies of GH:WT sold then cos I'll be getting it too!
...And the dude in GH3 already does a pretty good Hendrix impression, maybe they'll get rid of Xavier Stone then?
DEEZ @ Jul 21st 2008 9:35PM
Sorry, I can't love a company or a game that produces Next Gen Shovel-ware....and continues to do so for the blind sheep.
