Rumor: Vader DLC to darken SoulCalibur IV
Once thought to be the only good, pure and white edition of SoulCalibur IV may eventually be tainted with DLC from the dark side. Rumor on the internets is that NAMCO's Xbox 360 edition of SoulCalibur IV, which exclusively includes Yoda and a white color scheme, may eventually get the PS3 exclusive Darth Vader fighter as a content download. Proof is in the in-game video pudding and, as you can see above, we have proof that both Yoda AND Darth Vader can battle it out in on the same Xbox 360. If true, are you willing to pay for a DLC Darth Vadar or do you demand your Vadar to be free content?

Should be free but i wont be buying this anyway. I'm betting Vader will be on the disc and they'll charge.
ANTHOLOGY @ Jul 26th 2008 12:28PM
It better be free, i dont like the idea of paying a price to unlock whats already on the disc. Unlocking Vader would really sway me from getting the PS3 version over the 360 version.
BowserUSC @ Jul 27th 2008 11:53PM
You do realize that the PS3 version will have Vader but wont have Yoda. Hence the possibility that you would have to pay to unlock Yoda for the PS3 as well.
Mr. Nosuch @ Jul 26th 2008 12:48PM
Holy Darth, how many times and in how many ways can you misspell Vader in one short article.
ryan @ Jul 26th 2008 12:50PM
i've read people who've unlocked most everything in the game, that there is still a space between the apprentice and Yoda/Darth on the character select screen depending on which version you have.
should be free, but i wouldn't mind paying extra for Darth just to fill that space in the character select screen.
Quinion @ Jul 26th 2008 12:52PM
you spelt vadar 3 different ways in this story....?
Delirium @ Jul 26th 2008 12:58PM
Hahaha at all the different variations of Vader.
But, it should be free because I'm not paying for ONE character that should've been included. That's how you know people are just being greedy assholes. *coughEAcough*.
Kracker @ Jul 26th 2008 9:19PM
Actually, moron, DLC by nature is paying for content which is NOT on the disc already, hence the reason you have to DOWNLOAD content and have it saved to your box. All of which I'm perfectly fine with paying for. However, there is stuff that I refuse to pay for, like the Transformers game content which for 500msp UNLOCKS content already included on the disc. That is frigging lame.To have a good game that they add more stuff to is a big thumbs-up. To have a crappy game where they make you pay for stuff that's just frustrating to unlock, thumbs-down.
e.Missark @ Jul 26th 2008 1:01PM
Yeah both versions of the game, PS3 and 360, have an empty character slot. I'm guessing they'll charge for Yoda on the PS3
Magic Whiskey @ Jul 26th 2008 1:01PM
Dark Helmet should be in it. It's easier to spell:)
(Sorry, X3F )
psychohog @ Jul 26th 2008 1:03PM
I'll throw down 200-400 ms points for the download.
modelvillage @ Jul 26th 2008 1:11PM
I'd pay for Eddie Vader but not Darth/Nazi Vader
Jeff @ Jul 26th 2008 1:29PM
eddie vedder?
modelvillage @ Jul 27th 2008 8:49AM
err...yea it was a gag not a typo
Aleister Crowley @ Jul 26th 2008 1:19PM
If Vader came on the disc I would of got this at launch.
With Yoda I will wait until the price drops.
VENOM @ Jul 26th 2008 3:10PM
Wasn't this discussed months ago?
I'd be willing to shell out a bit more for Vader on my 360.
FiredCylinder @ Jul 26th 2008 1:23PM
*cough*horsearmor*cough*
ryan @ Jul 26th 2008 1:38PM
*cough the only difference is that a dL character actually adds to the game...uh....cough!*
but yes, should've come with the game instead of nickel and diming us.
C. T. @ Jul 26th 2008 1:25PM
While I think it's pretty shameful to make Darth Vader pay-to-play DLC, they could've mitigated a lot of frustration by making it free to pre-orders. That would have made a nice bonus and given people like me less reason to grumble.
Tony @ Jul 26th 2008 1:43PM
Wasn't MS's policy that if something is free on another system it should be free on the 360?
I guess if they wanted to be technical, neither of these were "free".
ANTHOLOGY @ Jul 26th 2008 2:22PM
You could look at it this way, its better to have the option to pay for Vader, instead of not getting him at all. I hope they dont charge much though, 400 points should be good.
Andykapped @ Jul 26th 2008 2:27PM
First of all this isnt even a debate. I have both systems. There is no logical way to play fighting games on the 360. The d pad is horrible.
ryan @ Jul 26th 2008 3:03PM
yes, but the analog stick is just fine, since the game doesn't require EXACT slide inputs like VF5. besides, arcade stick should be the way to go if you are serious about fighting games.
Andykapped @ Jul 26th 2008 4:09PM
YEs arcade sticks are the best to go but not the 360 nor ps3 controller stick. The D pad regardless is still a better way of fighting on console fight games. Virtual Fighter was clean but I prefer Tekken over Most fighting games. I love SC always played it on ps2. I just prefer the ps contoller on this game.
ryan @ Jul 26th 2008 4:34PM
i do prefer the PS2 controller for more precise combos like Street Fighter, VF, and Tekken. but the analog stick (and stick position) of the 360 controller works just as well for DoA and SC. games that require simple sweeps and attack buttons.
Vcize @ Jul 26th 2008 2:37PM
Give it a rest people, having the option to pay for the DLC is better than not having the option at all, which is what you would've gotten otherwise. At least then people who really like the game or really like the character can get him if they choose to pay.
But quit acting like Vader would've been included in the 360 version if it wasn't for DLC, he wouldn't. He just wouldn't be on there at all, with no option to get him just like the only other time SC was released on multiple consoles (SC2) where each console had exclusive characters with the other consoles having no way to get them.
In short, it's better than nothing, which is what you would've gotten otherwise.
ryan @ Jul 26th 2008 3:05PM
see, it'd be fine except for the fact that there is a SPACE blank for another character. in short, many feel ripped off, or cheated from a character to fill that spot.
Exo @ Jul 26th 2008 3:18PM
and its people like you that keep buying the shit companies put up as dlc when they should have been in the final game inthe first place
Vcize @ Jul 26th 2008 10:45PM
And it's people like you that are too dense to understand that if the DLC wasn't there he WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN IN THE GAME "in the first place" anyway.
Just like Link wasn't in the PS2 version of SC2 and Spawn wasn't in the Gamecube version.
ryan @ Jul 27th 2008 12:08PM
just face it. he would've been in the game from the beginning had they not made the silly decision of exclusive characters, when there is clearly the space for them in the character select screen.
why make exclusive characters if they aren't even going to stay exclusive? just to keep charging us.
Illegal Prophet @ Jul 26th 2008 3:47PM
Of course they are going to charge us for Space Age samurai. I've read of many companies wanting to give things away, and MS making them charge something for it. NG 2's mission mode. WTF?!? That should've easily been in the game. Those outfits for Ryu, should've been unlockable. But, it just goes to show, if people are willing to pay money for these things, then why not charge them. Carrot on string > Donkey. Bottom line is this: We as gamers are interacting with a company. It is a business. After all of the hulla-baloo about for the fans, and we're gamers before designers (and I do believe there are people who make these games and feel that DLC may be ripping us off to certain extents), it is still an exchange for goods and services. Oh, and I'm going to be buying a pale, scarred, angry, confused former Jedi ASAP.
apostleX @ Jul 27th 2008 2:27PM
Hell, Im just glad we are getting Vader on 360 at all. When I heard that he was going to be exclusive to PS3 I was a little pissy. So, I'd glady pay a few MS Points to add Vader to the Roster.
Jonah Falcon @ Jul 27th 2008 11:45PM
But he's already on the disc.
Duscrom @ Jul 28th 2008 11:29AM
Wow, i'm glad Jonah Already has access to the full Soul Cal 4 disc File structure, before the game is even out. I mean, you know EVERYTHING that's on the disc already, right?
drunkenironrabbit @ Jul 26th 2008 6:19PM
I honestly hope that they did this right. First of all if we have to pay who cares. The fact is plain and simple: PEOPLE WANT VADER. Here is the thing that bothers me. I'd personally rather Namco had put him on the disc (and Yoda on the PS3 one) so that whatever storyline of these characters that there are remains in tact on each system so benefit the fans. With this kept in mind it would not have been hard at all for them to make a sort of loophole / activation possible where the DLC acted as a key to make the character active. I sincerely hope that this is the way that went about it, and NAMCO should have done WAYYY more faceplaces then just Yoda and Siegfried.., um can we say eternal sonata and or ace combat?
PS > if youre getting the game add me I'll be on 24/7 im polite a good sport and love a good game [whether your kicking my arse or not ;)]

This is news? It's been known for MONTHS that Vader would be DLC on the 360 and Yoda would be DLC on the PS3. (Check my past comments)
The only question is if it'll be paid DLC or not.
However, it's probably already on the disc. >:(
LFotF @ Jul 26th 2008 11:27PM
I'd pay a few points for him. Yoda vs Vader is pretty awesome!
kano @ Jul 26th 2008 11:59PM
vader will prob be creatable from the create a soul mode or something and when you enter the name they'll say it... im surprised no one else guessed this
ryan @ Jul 27th 2008 12:09PM
if they did, then those people who've beaten and unlocked everything in the game would've discovered it already. i'm surprised you haven't thought of this. :P
B-rad @ Jul 27th 2008 1:18AM
hehehe in the video link Yoda is just destroying Vader. I always knew that to be the case.
scarface5847 @ Jul 27th 2008 11:48AM
its on training mode dont you see the health go back up after he gets hit
J.F. @ Jul 27th 2008 8:33AM
Maybe they give you Vader for free when you have unlocked everything else/got all achievements.
For people not fortunate to have time/skills/patience to do that, Namco gives us Noobs/Casual gamers the choice of downloading/unlocking big black mean Vader dude for small fee. Think that's fair.
Besides if you don't like to pay/play to get Vader, Yoda is the better choice, cuz he's one of the good guys (puppets actually): he's in the SC4 'White Edition', he is green, he's the underdog (because of its size and retarded way of talking) but he will probably win over that dark basterd of an evil meanie(Vader) if he really focused and be creative (bit like the console war between evil/dark stubborn PS3 and nice&clean/white&enlightened x360)
ryan @ Jul 27th 2008 12:09PM
there are people who've done everything in the game and still haven't unlocked him y'know...
chris @ Jul 27th 2008 10:03AM
Am I the only one who thinks Star Wars characters in SOul Caliber is stupid and that this fact alone gives me 2nd thoughts about purchasing this?
ryan @ Jul 27th 2008 12:09PM
you aren't alone, but isn't it stupid as well to 2nd think a purchase based off a few characters that you don't have to play as?
chris @ Jul 27th 2008 12:45PM
no, not really. I have to play against them afterall.
ryan @ Jul 27th 2008 1:48PM
ah, fair enough. luckily for you there are only a few of these characters then.
Edge @ Jul 28th 2008 4:27PM
No more than shoe-horning a Spartan into DOA4 did. No more than Spawn, Link, or Hiashi(?) did in SC2.
I see this all as a good thing. It moves us one step closer to putting our fanboyism aside and embracing a universal fighter in the mainstream. Snake v. Mario v. Vader v. Master Chief v. Hyabusa v. Lara Croft v. Kilik v. Akuma v. Spiderman v. Megazord v. L-shaped Tetris Piece v. PacMan v. Chuck Norris... in a twelve on one running away contest.
chris @ Jul 27th 2008 10:09AM
oh, and a second note. The idea about paying for one character that you can use against other people (but they can't use against you if they don't pay) is about as smart as having people play for a super weapon.
Either give everyone, or give none the same characters
NemesisLegion @ Jul 28th 2008 11:41AM
Forget Vader - WHERES Li-Long?!?
