Video: Dead Space's controversial lullaby
Looking for a creepy, twisted and bloody disturbing trailer to watch before you head off into dreamland this evening? If so, we have just the trailer for you. Dead Space (which we consider to be an E3 standout) recently released and re-aired a new "Lullaby" trailer for almost mass consumption. Set to an eerie rendition of the children's song "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", this Dead Space trailer is violent and, for that, it is downright amazing. Too amazing for the folks over at the ESRB, because they actually refused to rate it for American audiences. But to heck with the ESRB. Watch the latest Dead Space trailer embedded above and give us your impressions. We're a bit enthusiastic about its decapitated potential, what say you?

I wonder what parents who enjoy gaming will sing to their kids now. Every lullaby is turning into a horror show. Plus, I think I shat myself.
finchburg @ Jul 27th 2008 10:51PM
I gonna have to pass on this one I think... I can handle Bioshock just fine (although that one wasn't that horrific) and the level/amount of blood and gore in Gears was totally manageable but this creeps me out way too much.
Then again, I've never played Silent Hill or Resident Evil, but what I know of them doesn't get under my skin like this did.
D Train 02 @ Jul 27th 2008 11:00PM
this game looks awesome
Momer @ Jul 27th 2008 11:14PM
Wow. Simply excellent. Props to the team that made that trailer, although it hasn't changed my level of interest for the game, which currently stands at getting it if reviews are good. Shoulda taken out the Halloween bit though, you can't take Halloween seriously, it's freaking kids in costumes. Should just have a date.
Pure @ Jul 27th 2008 11:22PM
holy crap very scary but it looks awsome
zlliM @ Jul 27th 2008 11:26PM
wait a second, the ESRB won't rate a)the trailer for the game, or b)the game itself?
Brian @ Jul 28th 2008 12:03PM
I'm pretty sure the writer was kidding when he said the ESRB refused to rate the video. The ESRB rates games all the way to Adults Only... this certainly isn't AO.

Dead Space looks awesome, I'm so going to get it!!!

Now if everything else would get back to normal!
T-BoNe254 @ Jul 28th 2008 12:42AM
whats this about AOL?
(back on topic)
EA just got more cool points from me. To early to say an EA come back is in the works? Idk, either way dead space just locked a for sure rent spot at the least.

Long live X3F and the full roster of talent in Fanboy Towers! This is my homepage, by the way..
AnthonyGalindoX @ Jul 28th 2008 1:06AM
Do you guys really hate EA or are you trying to be like everyone else. Sure they may have produced a lot of sequels in the past but no one was making you buy them. Same thing goes for WWII fatigue, the only reason you should be tired of the setting is if you played most of the games. I don't know about you but I only had enough money for a few of them over the years: 2 Medal of Honors, 2 Brothers In Arms and that's about all I've ever owned since the PS One days.
Julie @ Jul 28th 2008 1:28AM
Wow, that was beautiful! I almost wet myself when the other footage cut in though! I don't know If I'll be able to play this by myself!
spamsphen @ Jul 28th 2008 1:47AM
Sorry I know this is off topic but did anyone else know that they were making a C&C Red Alert 3?!?! And they are almost done with it! Red Alert 2 was by far my favorite RTS EEVVAARR, and I have been praying for them to make another Red Alert game for years. How is it that I just now found out about this? Has anyone else heard of it, and is any1 else frickin ecstatic about this game coming out?!?! Sorry for my over enthusiasm but I'm really excited :-p.
stinger503 @ Jul 28th 2008 3:59AM
Yes I've known for a couple months now (EA was kind enough to send me an e-mail). Have you seen the demos of it? Looks amazing!
Bravo6 @ Jul 28th 2008 9:32AM
I've been checking the CnC RA3 site everyday for updates!
spamsphen @ Jul 28th 2008 11:13AM
Yeah I was watching all the vids and demos last night. *drool* People are bitching about the cartooning look of it but honestly idc, i don't still play RA2 because of graphics, I play because the game play is amazing. I just hope EA doesn't shit on this franchise to. I miss westwood :(. But i think they'll still pull it off. Here's to hoping at least.
RockerAnimeFreak @ Jul 28th 2008 2:04AM
For some reason I never get creeped out by games or movies anymore. I guess playing silent hill 2 at 11 when it 1st came out and watching horror flicks at 4 and playing other horror games made me immune to teh fears. BTW I'm 18 now and am totally gonna thoroughly enjoy this! =)
(and as a random side note I bought System Shock 2[precusor to bioshock] off ebay for 30 bucks and am enjoying it! here's to hoping they make Sys Shock 3)
Chaos_Deception @ Jul 28th 2008 2:23AM

So RockerAnimeFreak, are you telling me that Films like "The Dentist" "Hostel 1 & 2" do not phase you in the slightest?
If so, you are one twisted little guy.
On Topic:
That was excellent!
The Graphics, The Mood, the Setting :)
RockerAnimeFreak @ Jul 28th 2008 3:24PM
Nope not even the slightest. =) I hope some future movies or games will change that though... maybe this during playthrough or the new silent hill...
Magic Whiskey @ Jul 28th 2008 2:47AM
The only way to play horror games is after dark, IN the dark, with a surround sound system. I played through Silent Hill 2 and 3 that way, and even though I'd consider Bioshock more like an Alice In Wonderland-type game, I played it in the dark as well.
Dead Space has a lot to live up to. Regardless if Silent Hill Homecoming is great or not (Here's hoping it's amazing), it takes a lot to frighten this jaded gamer.
Bring on the scare! It's been nearly a decade since I jumped outta my seat while gaming!
Birdshake @ Jul 28th 2008 6:48AM
You do know that they're making a animated movie also, right? Going to be aired on Starz sometime.
Neuromancer @ Jul 28th 2008 9:02AM
Awesome trailer, looks like an awesome game too. By the way who knew all those lyrics to that song, I sure as hell didn't. Traveler in the dark? Very appropriate. The guys that made that trailer should get a raise.
Arnie @ Jul 28th 2008 9:30AM
Yes I admit this trailer creeped me out but to be honest there is no reason to not rate this thing.
I think its a publicity ploy cause that would generate a lot of negative publicity regarding this game.
Bones3D @ Jul 28th 2008 10:05AM
I don't get it.
Is it really so taboo because of the same old zombie/monsters we've seen in every other survival horror title ever made, or because of the jump cuts between stillness and chaos?
Kind of reminds me of that dumb internet fad from a while back where you'd be asked to stare closely at a still picture of a room only to have it switch suddenly to the face of a guy screaming when you least expect it.
Personally, I don't see the difference between this and shock-jock humor. It doesn't actually do anything to scare you, it just triggers an involuntary response like how a bright light can make you sneeze. There's no thought involved in the process.
M. Dizzy @ Jul 28th 2008 10:22AM
Looks like an awesome game. Hopped over to GT to see the other trailer and it's about the same. I think there is an added level of creepiness by setting the trailer to Twinkle Twinkle. Reminds me of the Aliens trailer set to O Fortuna...except creepier.
I remember trying out my surround sound system for the first time with the Silent Hill movie. The first time I heard one of the monsters from behind me, I almost jumped out of my skin.
The trailers do a good job at showing of the myriad ways to die in the game. I wonder if there's an achievement for viewing them all ;)
Neuromancer @ Jul 28th 2008 2:20PM
Hey I remember that Aliens movie, I saw it back in the primitive early days of the Internet (late 90's) and haven't seen it since. I'll have to look for it on YouTube.
I also remember somebody once made a remix of Rob Zombie's "Living Dead Girl" with a bunch of Silent Hill voice samples, that was pretty bad ass too.
M. Dizzy @ Jul 28th 2008 2:35PM
I found it pretty quickly with a search for Aliens O Fortuna. What I'm wondering now is if it was an official trailer for the movie or just a fan trailer. It's pretty good if it's a fan trailer.

Woohoo. Woo. Woooooooooooooo Fuck Yeah!!!!!!
Chester @ Jul 28th 2008 11:10AM
Ok, I actually did a playtest of this game at EA in Redwood City! I am telling u it is NOTHING like BioShock or Silent Hill or anything like that. Its style is much closer to Doom 3 on the xbox. Flashlight and all! Now I only got to play the first level, but it was nothing like BioShock! Sorry to disappoint!
Chester @ Jul 28th 2008 11:14AM
Sorry for the double post!!

WOW could you get any more creepy, can;t wait to play this game.
Etchasketchist @ Jul 28th 2008 12:26PM
Looks derivative but high quality. Event Horizon meets Alien meets Sunshine meets Bioshock. The "crazed victim writes gameplay hints with his own blood" technique is getting a little stale. Writing "Cut Off Their Limbs" on the wall while bleeding to death makes as much sense as writing "press Left Bumper for alt-fire!".
Neuromancer @ Jul 28th 2008 2:32PM
Yeah but I'd rather have hints like that than some woman talking to you, telling you where to go and what to do (like pretty much every other game out there). I get enough of that at home as it is.
Etchasketchist @ Jul 28th 2008 3:02PM
Whatever happened to instruction booklets? Remember those?
Maverick Saturn @ Jul 28th 2008 2:15PM
Looks interesting, and song is creepy, despite it being done by EA
psychohog @ Jul 28th 2008 3:17PM
The game reminds me of a movie called "Event Horizon". Twisted horror space movie, good stuff.
Urza @ Jul 28th 2008 3:45PM
I really hope this game turns out to be good. I saw that trailer like two weeks ago, I loved it then and I'm loving it now.
Kevin @ Jul 29th 2008 4:13PM
The trailer was cool, but in no way did it faze me. Like rocketanimefreak, I was watching horror movies and games at a young age. I remember watching Creep Show 2 and aliens at 7 years old. I was afriad to take a shower after watching Creep Show 2. I didn't want that oil creature getting me. But after getting scared at a young age like that from media, I adapted quickly and now just think movies like hostel and saw are cool, not creepy in any way. Games never freak me out as everything just feels so controlled and deliberate.
However, I just love the "survival/horror" games. At 30, I don't think they can ever put enough zombies or twisted creations in a game.
Dead Space and Left4Dead are this years games I can't wait for. RE5 however, looks a little less survival/horror and more like an action game the previous titles. They look like they are going for more of a hollywood style action/horror then a survival/horror. I'll still get it, but it's not what I was hoping for from watching the trailers.
FAnchax @ Aug 11th 2008 9:36PM
its gonna be another re4 inspired game fused in with some doom 3 elements...love it!
mat parker @ Aug 13th 2008 4:50PM
This is what happens when you let System Shock and Silent Hill reproduce dammit!
