MS: 60GB Xbox 360s have no specific street date

Major Nelson has confirmed with us that Microsoft never set a specific street date for the new 60GB HDD 360 models, telling us that "they'll just appear in the retail channels." So, whenever retailers unload 'em off the trucks, Microsoft is fine with them going directly to store shelves. Sad too, because we wanted to witness the authoritative rule and punishment Microsoft would enact on retailers who weren't playing by the rules. Oh well ...

I hope retailers do not cause confusion. I've seen target pictures with the 60gig version sitting just above a $299 price tag. That coud confuse anyone.

I also saw the 60 GB model above a 299 price tag at Wal-mart. The Walmart tag lists the price for the 360 Pro and the new 60 gig version is obviously listed as the Pro model. I bet a few lucky people are getting a discounted console b/c of a pricing mistake. Me...I am still content with my 20 GB version and have 11.5 GB left to fill.

MS probably knew the dates would be broken so didn't bother with them.
The best way to keep a street dates is to just release the product to retailers around the time you want it to be sold, rather than giving it to them weeks ahead of time and telling them not to sell it.
Or maybe this is all a bluff to cover them.

Yea my target had a few of these in the other day, wonder how much they'll sell the 60gb hdd for.
Dwag @ Jul 31st 2008 3:08PM
@deaftly
If that email is to be correct they will sell it at 99 bucks.
Oh yeah I'm still wishing they'd actually drop price seeing that now Sony truely has an advantage with a 400 dollar PS3 while MS is still at the same prices. Seriously MS needs to research how much there drives should cost cause frankly 120HDD don't cost that much and MS's version is basically a regular one in special casing.
I'll keep preaching this: $299 60HDD 360 and $399 120HDD and lower the prices on the accessories(still 99 bucks for a piece of platic called the wireless adapter and lol at the HDD price)

I sold off my Wii this weekend to someone and traded in everything I had to GameStop and asked them if they happened to have any 60GB consoles and they said yes and sold me one. So I think it's unofficially officially out

I'll probably pick this up after the dashboard update, if the installations are worth it. :D
