360 system update released, not the Fall update

A few hours ago, a new Xbox 360 system update was released meaning that anyone signing into Xbox Live will be prompted to give it a download. But don't get too excited, because Major Nelson has informed us that this is NOT the feature rich Fall update we've all been waiting for. Instead, today's system update has code in it to "prepare for future growth of the service" with no new visible changes or features added. Which also means there are no Avatars ... yet.

Awww, I got some update last night while starting "Lego Indiana Jones" and was hoping it was going to make getting one of the chests a little easier...

OK, there were two updates. One of them was for Indy, one was this update.

Unfortunately, now I can't pick up a banana while riding an elephant so I can't get past a certain point in Temple of Doom. It worked the other day, but now it doesn't. I sure hope I see another, better update soon...

I was so excited but was confused because it was not fall yet so i tryed not to get my hopes up. it was kind of long for a system update though.

My guess is between GoW2 and 11/22. Although, Netflix stated we could stream movies starting late fall. That could mean a couple weeks into December. First day of Winter is Dec 21st.

You can expect this from now on, the fall update is not possible in just one big update, so microsoft are adding certain things to the dashboard bit by bit (but not actually usable). This way the transition will be much smoother and the chances of error in the major update will be cut (usually with all updates there are a few users experiencing problems).

I assume the fall update is so large it will be downloaded as a series of code changes. Which I assume this is, or in preparation for.

I doubt that the Fall update will be delivered in one large chunk.

I bet that is how it will work. I remember they did that with Half Life 2 before it was released on PC. I bet they have done it with other games too, but that is the only one I cared enough about to play. Either way, great idea so as not to overload the servers on update day.

I'm not sure but I thought I saw a small update in the font on all of the text and slightly faster load times on the blades. I could be wrong though.

FWIW, this update is apparently causing havoc to systems. The symptoms appear to be related to video with the screen freezing/tearing/"checkering" with some systems getting the RRoD or "E74" error (AV cable problem).

In almost all cases I have found, the system was working fine up until the update dropped, and even seemed to be fine for a short period (

Seems to have caused a problem streaming my videos from Connect360 on the mac - which was no problem before - the videos start 'juttering' (for want of a better word). I tried a few, and it happened - might just have to wait for an update to Connect360 though.

Any better timeframes for the major update yet. Alls ive been hearing is sometime this fall.

Sounds like there are still alot of issues with it, considering the lengthy wait.
